IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT THIS GEAR RELEASE 4.01/3.31
===================================================================

The following is last minute information that was not available
at the time of printing both the manuals and the regular release
notes. Please read the following carefully before you start working
with this GEAR release 4.01/3.31.

1. This is a Yamaha specific OEM version of Gear.
2. Problems with track-list files on GEAR for MacOS.
3. Cyclic buffer settings for Windows 3.x/95/NT.
4. Interface selection under Windows 3.x.

===================================================================
1. This is a Yamaha specific OEM version of Gear.
===================================================================
This is a special OEM version of Gear to be bundled with
Yamaha CD recorders only. Recorders of other manufacturers
will not be recognized by this version.

The message 'No CD Recording units found' will appear if this
version is used with other recorders than Yamaha.

===================================================================
2. Problems with track-list files on GEAR for MacOS.
===================================================================
There is a bug in GEAR that causes gear to misinterpret a correct
track list file and not write the last track in the list. To avoid
this, simply add an empty line at the end of the file.

A prior bug did not allow GEAR to write tracks with 0 Second pregaps.
This has been solved.

===================================================================
3. Cyclic buffer settings for Windows 3.x/95/NT
===================================================================
The default settings for Cyclic Buffering were set for systems with
16MB memory on board. In the case you have less then 16 MB, it is
recomended to halve the amount of buffers:

16MB Ram   -> 96 buffers of 32768 bytes.
8MB  Ram   -> 48 buffers of 32768 bytes.

If you have more than 16 MB, it is possible to increase the number
of buffers as long as the total amout of bufferspace does not exceed
8MB.

===================================================================
4. Interface selection under Windows 3.x
===================================================================
The default CD SCSI interface under Windows 3.x is DOS based ASPI.
This is due to the fact that all SCSI cards come with a standard
DOS ASPI driver.

However, if you own an Adaptec SCSI card, it is strongly recommended
that you use the WINASPI interface included with the cards driver kit.
This interface will provide you with Cyclic Buffering capabilities and
has less memory restrictions. The selection of DOS ASPI and WINASPI
can be made during installation. Cyclic buffering has to be explicitely
enabled through the 'CDRInterface' setting in the GEAR.INI file.
