M.Y.O.B. Accounting Version 5.5 README file

This document contains changes made to M.Y.O.B. Version 5.5
after publication of the Getting Started Guide and User
Guide. Please review this information before you begin using
your copy of M.Y.O.B.

WHAT'S NEW IN VERSION 5.5
If you're upgrading to Version 5.5, we recommend that you
review the "Before You Begin" chapter of the Getting Started
manual (page GS7), which contains a summary of the improvements we've
made to M.Y.O.B. Using that chapter, you should be able to
locate the existing M.Y.O.B. features you know and love.

USING CD-ROM VIDEO HELP:
Special hardware and software is required to use CD-ROM
Video Help. Refer to the Getting Started manual (page GS17)
for information about these items.

To access Video Help, be sure the Video Help CD is
inserted in your CD-ROM drive, then choose Show Video Help
from the Help menu. Each time you open a window in M.Y.O.B.
for which Video Help is available, the appropriate video
clip will play. You must have selected either a Complete
Installation, or at least the CD Help support files when you
installed M.Y.O.B. If you selected a Custom Install and turned
off this item, you may reinstall at any time and add only these
files.

Some video cards have compatibility problems with
QuickTime for Windows, the software used to run M.Y.O.B.'s
Video Help function. If you experience problems using
M.Y.O.B. Video Help, use a text editor to add the following
line to your QTW.INI file on your computer's hard disk
(probably located in your C:\WINDOWS directory, or the
directory in which Windows is installed):

NO EASY-ADD FOR CARDS IN WRITE CHEQUES WINDOW
The Easy-Add function, which allows you to quickly create a
record, is not available in the Write Cheques window. Since
you can use this window to write cheques to any type of card
(customer, vendor, employee or personal contact) in the
M.Y.O.B. system, M.Y.O.B. doesn't know the type of record
you wish to create.

ASSIGNING SALES TAXES TO TRANSACTIONS USING TAX-EXEMPT
CUSTOMERS AND VENDORS
When you create a sales transaction for a tax exempt
customer, M.Y.O.B. forces all tax codes to be 'E' (Exempt)
regardless of the actual tax codes which apply to each item.
If you override the default tax codes, tax will be charged.
To ensure sales taxes aren't charged, be sure the defaults
in the Tx column are not changed.

UPGRADE CUSTOMERS: CITY AND STATE FIELDS HAVE BEEN ADDED
Previous versions of the Card File Entry window used a
single text field for entire addresses. In Version 5.5, the
data entry region for addresses now consists of separate
fields for street address, city and state. Your M.Y.O.B.
data will continue to function properly with these new
fields; however, you may wish to change the addresses on the
cards you use most often so the city and state fields are
used.

UPGRADE CUSTOMERS: M.Y.O.B. ICONS REPLACED
When installing M.Y.O.B. 5.5 the installer adds Program
Manager icons named 'M.Y.O.B. Accounting', 'M.Y.O.B.
Upgrade', 'M.Y.O.B. Help' and 'M.Y.O.B. Readme' to
the Best!Ware program group. If these icons already exist,
the installer replaces them with icons which run the latest
versions you just installed. Your earlier version programs
are NOT replaced by the installer unless you install into the
same directory you used for the previous version.

IMPORTANT TAX TABLE INFORMATION
The Federal Budget for 1995 was brought down before this
release of M.Y.O.B. was shipped, however the Budget
legislation changes do not pass into law until passed by
both houses of parliament. This was not the case when we
shipped M.Y.O.B. 5.5, so the tax table file shipped DOES NOT
include the changes announced in the budget for the 1995/96
financial year. Contact Customer Service on 03 9894 1177
for more information about receiving a new tax table when
the details are released by the Australian Taxation Office.

FINDING INFORMATION ABOUT M.Y.O.B. REPORTS
Descriptions of all reports in M.Y.O.B. are included in your
on-line help. There is also a brief description of each report
displayed when you select it in the Index to Reports.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT JOB REPORTS
The Job Profit & Loss Report and the Job Activity reports
(Summary and Detail) in M.Y.O.B. don't include information
from purged transactions or from previous years.

CHANGES AND ADDITIONS TO MANUALS
This section contains information about parts of the
M.Y.O.B. manuals that have changed. In most cases, this
information is complete and up-to-date in your on-line help.

* On page GS13 of the Getting Started Guide, the telephone
number for Introductory Support should be 03 9894 0200.
The 1800 number for Extended Support Plan members is
issued after joining the Plan.

* The Contents page in the Getting Started Guide (page v)
is incorrect. M.Y.O.B. Compatible Forms information is on
page 15.

* On pages 266 and 267 of the User Guide some fields for
Item import/export are duplicated. The fields from Item
Number to Vendor Number inclusive appear twice. They
do not appear twice in the import/export files!

* In general the On-Line Help information in M.Y.O.B. is
the most up-to-date source of information on how a particular
screen operates. Don't forget to make use of the Help system.
