Avail Systems NetSpace 3.5/ADSM Readme file. (modified: 01/29/96)

This file contains information related to using NetSpace with the
ADSM backup client.

*****************************************************************
*** IMPORTANT: The ADSM NODENAME used for NetSpace should ***
*** always be different than the NODENAME used for the ADSM ***
*** backup client. ***
*****************************************************************

I. Installing NetSpace 3.5 in a network where ADSM is used to
back up NetWare volumes that are also managed by NetSpace.

Background: ADSM does not set the archive bit of a file after
    it has been backed up.

To get around this, run AVSETUP.NLM on the HSM server.
Select Configuration Parameters, then select Verify File
Backup. This parameter must be set to "Do Not Verify File
Backup". The archive bit will now be ignored when
determining whether or not a file is eligible for migration.

CAUTION: Since we no longer can tell if the file is backed
up, we MUST recommend that the user set their inactivity
period to increase the chance that a file is backed up before
a sweep or critical migrate job migrates the file. For
example, if a user only does their network backup on a weekly
basis, the inactivity period should probably be set to at
    least three weeks.

II. NetSpace/ADSM backup client interaction.

When the ADSM backup client connects to a NetWare volume,
NetSpace file recalls are automatically disabled. As soon
as the ADSM backup client connects to another NetWare volume,
file recalls are automatically enabled again.

The backup schedule used with the ADSM backup client MUST
ALWAYS be set up to disconnect from a NetSpace managed
volume. This can be accomplished by simply scheduling a
non-NetSpace managed volume as the last volume in the backup
    schedule.
