-----------------------------------
SYSTEM.INI SETTING RECOMMENDATIONS
-----------------------------------

In the [386Enh] section of the SYSTEM.INI file, we recommend
that you set the TimerCriticalSection to at least 5000.

---------------------------------------------
NOVELL DLLs REQUIRED FOR PRINT QUEUE ACCESS
---------------------------------------------

Before ZIP! Host Print Manager can direct output to Novell
print queues, the Novell files listed in the charts below
must be installed on the Host Print Manager PC.
                 ___
                    |
NWCALLS.DLL |----These files are called by
NWPSRV.DLL | ZIP! Host Print Manager
                 ___|

                 ___
                    |
NWLOCALE.DLL |----These files are called by
      NWNET.DLL | NWCALLS.DLL and NWPSRV.DLL
                 ___|

Contact your Novell representative if you cannot locate
   these files.

----------------------------------
"NONE" DEVICE DRIVER CONSIDERATION
----------------------------------

A device driver installed on the "None" port will not
appear in the Device drop-down list box. Edit your WIN.INI
file to include the NUL:= entry in the [PORTS] section as
   shown below:

      .
      .
      .
      [PORTS]
      NUL:=
      .
      .
      .

Restart Windows and ZIP! Host Print Manager. Choose the
NUL option from the Profile folder Device drop-down list
box to achieve the same effect as selecting "None."

------------
FONT SUPPORT
------------

Attachmate Fonts

ZIP! Host Print Manager includes and supports the
   Attachmate fonts.

   To install the Attachmate fonts:

   1. From the Windows Control Panel program group,
      double-click the Fonts icon.

The Fonts dialog box is displayed.

   2. Choose the Add button.

The Add Fonts dialog box is displayed.

      fonts and choose OK.

   5. Choose the Close button to close the Fonts dialog box.

The font(s) you chose will be available in the Page Printer
version of the Page Layout dialog box.

----------------------
MEMORY RECOMMENDATIONS
----------------------

Microsoft SNA Connectivity

If using Microsoft SNA to establish a connection, we
recommend a minimum of 500K conventional memory.

TCP/IP

When using the Piper IP Stack with ZIP! Host Print Manager,
we recommend a minimum of 500K conventional memory. This
applies to any communications application that starts another
application as part of its stack.

General

The Host Print Manager PC should have a minimum of 60 MB
free on the drive pointing to the temp directory. Each
time a print job is processed by ZIP! Host Print Manager,
a temporary file is written to the disk.

------------------------------------
CONFIG.SYS SETTING RECOMMENDATIONS
------------------------------------

We recommend setting Files and Buffers in the Host Print
Manager PC's CONFIG.SYS file to at least the following:

   Files=80
   Buffers=40

Because ZIP! Host Print Manager's communication engine
utilizes hardware interrupts, we recommend setting
Stacks in the CONFIG.SYS to the following:

   Stacks=16,512

------------------------------------------------------
.INI AND .BAT FILE BACKUPS CREATED DURING INSTALLATION
------------------------------------------------------

During the installation process, ZIP! Host Print
Manager creates backups of the following files:

   EXTRA4W.INI is copied to EXTRA4W.HPM
   SYSTEM.INI is copied to SYSTEM.HPM
   WIN.INI is copied to WIN.HPM
   AUTOEXEC.BAT is copied to AUTOEXEC.HPM

These backups are copied to the same directory as their
   .INI or .BAT counterparts.

The WIN.INI file is updated during the installation
process. Depending on the Print Manager PC's current
configuration, other files may be updated as well.

----------------------------------------
SNA SERVER CONNECTIVITY AND LU3 PRINTING
----------------------------------------

If you cancel an LU3 print job, ZIP! Host Print Manager
will terminate the session in addition to canceling the
print job. You will need to manually restart the session
   to send additional print jobs.

-----------------------------
TCP/IP WINDOW SIZE ADJUSTMENT
-----------------------------

You may have to adjust the window size for certain
TCP/IP stacks. We recommend that you set the TCP
window size to 16384, or, if this is not possible,
   to 1400 or less.

To set window size to 16384 for the IPSWITCH series of
TCP/IP stacks, for example, include the following in the
   PIPER.BAT file:

      setvar 4 _tcp_recvspace 16384

Refer to your TCP/IP vendor documentation for
information about altering window size for your
   particular TCP/IP stack.

-----------------
INACTIVE SESSIONS
-----------------

When a session becomes inactive, it is not restarted
   automatically.

----------------------------------
SENDING PRINT JOB OUTPUT TO A FILE
----------------------------------

Because ZIP! Host Print Manager is a server product,
we do not recommend sending print job output to a file.
If you do send output to a file, subsequent dialog boxes
requesting input such as a filename will appear on the
ZIP! Host Print Manager PC and not on the originating
   machine.

-------------------------------------
HIGH SPEED CONNECTIVITY CONSIDERATION
-------------------------------------

DLC and other high speed links may preempt updates to the
user interface. If this occurs, control will return to
the UI when the spooled print jobs are completed.

-----------------------------
MICROSOFT WINDOWS PERFORMANCE
-----------------------------

If ZIP! Host Print Manager will be used for heavy processing,
we recommend setting your Windows' swap file to 20 MB. Change
the swap file setting by altering the virtual memory allocation.
Refer to the 386 Enhanced option in Windows' Control Panel.

----------------------------------------
ADDENDUM TO ZIP! HOST PRINT MANAGER 1.01
----------------------------------------

The ZIP! Host Print Manager, Release 1.01, contains the following
additional features and options. Please review and familiarize
yourself with this list and refer to the related chapters and
section in the current ZIP! Host Print Manager User's Guide for
   additional, supplemental information.

      * When you reinstall or upgrade the ZIP! Host Print Manager,
your existing configuration file is saved and remains intact.
The ZIPPRINT.INI file retains the configuration that includes
session names, print destination, and so on. See Chapter 1,
        "Installing ZIP! Host Print Manager."

      * During the installation, you also have the option to reinstall
the default print profiles, LINELAY.PRF and PAGELAY.PRF, or
you can retain the existing profiles if they have been edited
        to match your printers.

      * The Delete Configuration selection is now available on the
File menu. When you choose Delete Configuration, the
Select Configuration to Delete dialog box is displayed.

This dialog box displays a list of the current configuration
names. Select the configuration name you want to delete and
click the Delete button. The selected configuration is
immediately removed. See "The File Menu" in Chapter 3 of
the ZIP! Host Print Manager User's Guide.

      * The File menu selections Start Host Print Manager and
Shutdown Host Print Manager are now alternately displayed
only when the related option is available. The Start Host
Print Manager option is displayed only until the configuration
is saved and the Host Print Manager is ready to start. The
Shutdown Host Print Manager option is now displayed only
after the Host Print Manager is started. See "The File Menu"
in Chapter 3 of the ZIP! Host Print Manager User's Guide.

      * You can now select <NONE> as the default configuration
from the list of previously saved configurations in the
Set Default Configuration dialog box. You can choose this
function using the Default Configuration selection on the
Options menu. See "The Options Menu" in Chapter 3 of the
ZIP! Host Print Manager User's Guide.

      * The Power On/Power Off toolbar button has been changed to
better indicate when the Host Print Manager is active. The
Power On/Power Off button is now shown in two stages.
When the session is inactive, the current Power Off button
is displayed. When active, the Power On button now shows
rays and turns yellow. See "The Control Menu" in Chapter
3 of the ZIP! Host Print Manager User's Guide.

      * When you slowly move the mouse pointer over Toolbar buttons,
you are presented with tool tips that briefly describe how
the indicated toolbar button performs. See "The Toolbar" in
Chapter 3 of the ZIP! Host Print Manager User's Guide.

      * When adding or editing a printer session, use the radio
buttons in the Profile Folder to change the type of printer
profile you want to use. The first profile in the selection
list that matches the type of profile you picked is
displayed. See "The Profile Folder" in Chapter 3 of the
ZIP! Host Print Manager User's Guide.

      * You can delete printer profiles that are not currently
being used with the Remove button. Warning messages are now
displayed when you attempt to delete a printer profile that
is currently selected or is being used by another session
or configuration. (You cannot delete the two default printer
profiles, LINELAY.PRF and PAGELAY.PRF.) See "The Profile
Folder" in Chapter 3 of the ZIP! Host Print Manager User's
        Guide.

      * The two default printer profiles, LINELAY.PRF and
PAGELAY.PRF, can be modified and saved. If you want to
create a custom printer page or line layout, you should
modify the related default page and use the Save As command
to save the profile using another name, keeping the default
profile intact. See "The Profile Folder" in Chapter 3 of the
ZIP! Host Print Manager User's Guide.

      * The Folder tabs, Session and Profile, can now be selected
from the keyboard using ALT+S for the Session Folder, and
        ALT+F for the Profile Folder.

      * The Detailed Session Information dialog box now contains a
Resource field (dedicated LUs) in the Host Connection section
of the box. See "The Connection Menu" in Chapter 3 of the
ZIP! Host Print Manager User's Guide.

      * You can activate the Novell Print Queue "Suppress Form Feed" option
by adding the following lines to the ZIPPRINT.INI file.

	[NOVELL]
	SUPPRESS_FF=1

      * The mode value "SESS ERR" has been added to the monitor/configurator.
SESS ERR is a mode value displayed if a session (an LU) is
disabled due to a host IPL or the recycling of an LU. You can
configure the length of time the SESS ERR value is displayed by
adding the following line to the ZIPPRINT.INI Defaults section.
The default value is 5 seconds, if the SESSERRCNT is not added
	to the ZIPPRINT.INI

	[Defaults]
	SessErrCnt=###

The '###' is a timer value and represents the number of seconds that
the 'SESS ERR' mode will be displayed. Enter any integer value. After
the SESS ERR value has been displayed for the configured amount of
time, the session value returns to 'PENDING' and 'NO SESSION'. While
these values are displayed, ZIP! Host Print Manager attempts to
reconnect the session to the host. While SESS ERR is being displayed,
the session is inoperable (ZIP! Host Print Manager will not attempt to
reconnect). However, this condition can be overridden by activating the
lightbulb icon on the toolbar to power on the session.	A value of '0'
	(zero) SHOULD NOT be used.

      *	When printing to Novell print queues, ZIP! Host Print Manager will now
attempt	to re-establish a connection to a Novell file server if the
connection is lost. To enable this new feature, three parameters must
be added to the ZIPPRINT.INI file.

Parameter 1 (in order to re-establish a connection with the Novell file
server) ZIP! Host Print Manager must be told the server name(s) and the
user ID/password used to login to the file server(s).

	[DOS_GW]
	USERID=GARYMC
	PASSWORD=ZHPM

In this example, [DOS_GW] identifies the name of the Novell file server
that ZIP! Host Print Manager will attempt to re-establish a connection with.
GARYMC is the login account name and ZHPM is the password used to login into
the Novell file server. If you connect to more than one server, add these
three lines with the appropriate values into a new section.

Two parameters in the default section of the ZIPPRINT.INI are set as well.

	[Defaults]
	MaxRetries=###
	RetryInterval=####

MaxRetries value ###, sets the maximum number of retries ZIP! Host Print
Manager	will attempt to re-establish a connection with the Novell file server
until the system is shut down. Enter an integer value up to 999 times.
	The default is 5 retries.

RetryInterval value ####, sets the amount of time between each attempt
ZIP! Host Print Manager makes (MaxRetries) to re-establish the session
with the Novell file server. Enter an integer value up to 9999 seconds.
	The default is 30 seconds.

Note: If you are using VLM's with these ZIPPRINT.INI parameters enabled,
you need to add the following entry into the "NETWARE DOS REQUESTER" section
        of the NET.CFG file:

CONFIRM CRITICAL ERROR ACTION = OFF

      * ZIP! Host Print Manager will now save SCS code information from print job
to print job. This is useful when host applications such as VPS, send
multiple print jobs that all use the same SCS codes to the same printer.
When this feature is enabled the SCS codes for the print job and subsequent
print jobs are saved by the printer until an unbind occurs. To enable this
new feature the following parameter must be added to the ZIPPRINT.INI file.

	[Defaults]
	SavePageLayout=1

By setting an integer value of 1 this enables the feature for every print
	session/job.

This feature can be disabled by removing the entry from the ZIPPRINT.INI or
by changing the integer value of 1 to 0.
