1. Overview
===========

The cc:Mail Messaging Service lets you use Microsoft's new Exchange
client for Windows 95 to send and receive messages on your cc:Mail
post office. You can also browse your cc:Mail Directory and Mailing
lists.

The cc:Mail Messaging Service is fully integrated into Microsoft
Exchange (MAPI-1) environment which is included with the Windows 95
operating system.

2. New Features
===============

The following features have been incorporated in this version.

1. You can now create, modify and save a list of available cc:Mail
bulletin board names. When you choose to import cc:Mail bulletin
boards, you can select the bulletin boards to be download from
this list of available names. Import will download all read and
unread messages in the selected bulletin boards into Exchange.

2. This version implemented the "Update cc:Mail Bulletin Boards"
feature. You can select "active" bulletin boards from a list of
available bulletin boards. When you choose to update cc:Mail
bulletin boards, all unread messages in "active" bulletin boards
   will be imported into Exchange.

3. Several minor changes for tuning and bug corecting have been
   incorporated in this version.

3. Requirements
===============

To use the cc:Mail Messaging Service you will need a Windows 95
system with:

* Microsoft Exchange client installed.
* cc:Mail post office installed, including VIM.DLL and related files
(the date/time stamps should be 8/26/94 2:07a or later).
* 1 MB available disk space.

4. Installation
===============

If you are installing over an earlier version of the cc:Mail Messaging
Service, please refer to the section on "Installing Over Previous
Versions" before continuing with these installation instructions.

Installing the cc:Mail Service
------------------------------

1. Insert the "Transend MAPI ConnectorWare for cc:Mail" diskette in
   the drive.
2. Click the Start menu and choose Run.
3. Enter "A:\Setup" (assuming the diskette is in drive A) and click OK.
4. Follow the directions that appear on your screen.
5. When prompted for the "Directory to install cc:Mail components" be
sure to specify a directory on your path. If you are not sure, use
   the default.
6. If you are installing over a previous version (in the same
directory), you will be asked to overwrite the previous
   installation. Choose Yes to overwrite.
7. The setup program will inform you if the installation completed
successfully. If so, you are ready to either create a new Exchange
profile with cc:Mail or add cc:Mail to your current Exchange as
described in the next steps. If you are installing over a previous
version and already have cc:Mail in your current profile, you can
   skip the remaining installation steps.

Creating a new Exchange profile with cc:Mail
--------------------------------------------

1. Run the Control Panel (Click the Start button, choose Settings, and
   choose Control Panel).
2. Run the "Mail and Fax" applet (double-click on it).
3. Click "Show Profiles".
4. Click "Add".
5. Specify a name for the profile.
6. Check the cc:Mail Service and any others you wish to include in the
   profile.
7. Follow the instructions which appear on the screen .
8. When you are done adding the service to the new profile and you are
back at the "Microsoft Exchange Profiles" screen, be sure to choose
this new profile as the one to use with Exchange by selecting it in
the "When starting Microsoft Exchange, use this profile".

Or, Adding cc:Mail to your current Exchange profile
---------------------------------------------------

1. Run the Control Panel (Click the Start button, choose Settings, and
   choose Control Panel).
2. Run the "Mail and Fax" applet (double-click on it).
3. Click the "Add" button.
4. Choose cc:Mail.
5. Fill in your cc:Mail logon information and click Ok.

NOTE: This setup utility will not install cc:Mail and VIM DLLs shipped
by Lotus with the cc:Mail product. If these DLLs are not in your path
when you configure or use the cc:Mail Service, you will be prompted for
their location. If these DLLs are not present on your PC or LAN, you
will not be able to use the cc:Mail Service.

5. Uninstall
============

The automatic uninstall feature has not been implemented for this
version. To manually uninstall the cc:Mail Service:

1. Remove cc:Mail Service from your Exchange profile by: run the
"Mail and Fax" applet to open your Exchange profile, in the
"Services" tab, move the highlight to cc:Mail, and click the
   "Remove" button.
2. Delete the following files: (1) CCMXP32.DLL, CCMAB32.DLL,
   MAPIVM32.DLL, VIMTHK32.DLL, VIMTHK16.DLL, CWIMPORT.EXE, and
CCMDLIST.EXE from the directory where you installed the cc:Mail
   Service; (2) CCMSVC.HLP, and CCMSVC.CNT from the \windows\help
directory; and (3) EXPORT.PIF from the \windows\pif directory.
3. Remove \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\transend\ccmsvc entry from
the Registry by: run Windows Explorer, locate the Registry Editor
program (Regedit.exe) in the \windows directory, run "Regedit"
program by double clicking on its icon, move the highlight to
   "ccmsvc" entry under \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\transend, click
the "Delete" command under the "Edit" menu.
4. Edit file MAPISVC.INF in the \windows\system directory and remove:
   (1) CCMSVC from the [Services] section; (2) cc:Mail from the [Help
file Mappings] section; (3) [CCMSVC], [CCM_AB], and [CCM_XP]
   sections.

6. Using the cc:Mail Service
============================

To use the cc:Mail Service, run Microsoft Exchange by double clicking
on the Inbox icon on your desktop. Be sure that the default profile
contains the cc:Mail service (see step 8 in "Creating a new Exchange
profile with cc:Mail").

7. Installing Over Previous Versions
====================================

If you are installing over an earlier version of the cc:Mail Messaging
Service, you need to: (1) be sure all DLLs are removed from memory or
the installation may fail (this may require rebooting); (2) install
the new files; (3) be sure you do not accidentally use the older
versions of the DLLs; (4) remove the old cc:Mail Service in your
profile; (5) add the new cc:Mail Service to your profile. These steps
are described here.

To Verify Removed from Memory
-----------------------------

To ensure all cc:Mail Service DLLs are out of memory, you can shut
down and restart Windows. If you haven't run Exchange or other mail
client since starting Windows, then there should be no cc:Mail
Service DLLs in memory.

To Install the New Files
------------------------

Follow the instructions in the "Installation" section.

To Verify Using Correct Version
-------------------------------

After installing the cc:Mail Service, it is possible that the wrong
version of the DLLs could be incorrectly loaded into memory. This
can happen when either: 1) The PATH contains a directory containing
older versions of the DLL, or 2) Another version of the DLL had
already been in memory when installing the new version.

If an older version was previously installed in a different directory
than the new version, you must delete the following old DLL's and EXE
from your system: Ccmxp32.DLL, Ccmab32.DLL, Mapivm32.DLL, Vimthk32.DLL,
Vimthk16.DLL, and Ccmdlist.EXE.

To verify the correct cc:Mail Service DLLs are being used, check the
version number in the cc:Mail Service's About dialog:
1. Run the Mail and Fax applet from the Control Panel.
2. Highlight the cc:Mail (if cc:Mail not present, choose "Profiles",
select a profile containing cc:Mail and choose "Properties", then
   highlight cc:Mail)
3. Choose "About"
4. Move the highlight between each of the three DLLs. The version
number for each should be "01.10.00.24".

To Remove the "old" cc:Mail Service in Profile
----------------------------------------------

For security reason, some properties in the cc:Mail Service have been
changed. This means that the old cc:Mail Service in your profile is no
longer valid, you'll have to remove it from your Microsoft Exchange
profile.

1. Run the Control Panel (Click the Start button, choose Settings, and
   choose Control Panel).
2. Run the "Mail and Fax" applet (double-click on it).
3. In the "Services" tab, move the highlight to cc:Mail, and click
   the "Remove" button.

To Add a "new" cc:Mail Service to Profile
-----------------------------------------

To add a new cc:Mail Service to your Microsoft Exchange profile, follow
the instructions for adding cc:Mail to your current Exchange profile,
in the "Installation" section.

8. Using the Local Copy of the Address Book
===========================================

If the Directory on your cc:Mail post office contains more than a few
thousand names, the performance of the cc:Mail Address Book in Exchange
may be affected. You can improve the performance by choosing to use a
local copy of the address book.

To Use a Local Copy
-------------------
1. Run the Mail & Fax applet from the Control Panel.
2. Highlight cc:Mail and click the Properties button.
3. Click on the Addressing tab.
4. Put a check in the "Use local copy" box.
5. Click on the "Create/Update local copy" button.
6. When the update finishes, click Ok about three times to completely
   exit the Exchange Settings window.
7. If the Exchange client is running, be sure to exit and start it
again for the change to take affect.

9. Working Offline
==================

Working offline allows you to create and address your Microsoft
Exchange's messages with cc:Mail users, without being connected to
your cc:Mail post office on the LAN. Of course, in order to send
and/or receive messages using the cc:Mail Service, you will need to
re-connect to your LAN.

To Work Offline
---------------
1. While connected to the LAN, change your cc:Mail profile to use a
local copy of the address book. Make sure to update the local
copy of the address book before you disconnect from the LAN.
Please refer to the section on "Using the Local Copy of the
   Address Book" for instructions.
NOTE: You cannot modify the cc:Mail profile while offline.
2. While disconnected from the LAN, run Microsoft Exchange by double
clicking on the Inbox icon on your desktop. The cc:Mail Service
will display a warning message: either (1) "Unable to find cc:Mail
Program Directory. Do you want to find it now or work offline?"
You should choose the "Offline" option; or (2) "Could not find the
cc:Mail postoffice. Would you like to change it now?" In this
   case, click the "No" button.
3. While running Microsoft Exchange offline, you can still create and
address your messages using the local copy of the address book or
the Personal Address Book (PAB). Since you cannot send or receive
your messages offline, you must "Save" them in your Inbox. You
can then move them to a personal folder (e.g. Draft) to be sent
   at a later time.
4. To send a message after you re-connect to the LAN, just open the
message and click on the "send" icon on the tools bar.

10. Known Problems & Issues
===========================

1. The Transend ConnectorWare for cc:Mail installation program does not
support the "uninstall" feature. To manually uninstall the cc:Mail
Service, refer to the "Uninstall" section.

2. Postoffice and gateway addressing is supported in the cc:Mail
Messaging Service but the user interface is not the same as in the
cc:Mail client. To address to users on other postoffices or
gateways, such as the Internet, you first create entries for these
people in your Personal Address Book and then choose them when
addressing a message. To create entries for these recipients,
create a new Address Book entry, choose cc:Mail as the recipient
type, fill in the fields as indicated in the form, save the entry
   in your Personal Address Book.

3. If you make any changes to your login information, be sure to click
the "Apply" button before using other features in the "Configure
cc:Mail Service" property pages such as adding your private lists
to the PAB or changing your cc:Mail password.

4. If you make changes to your cc:Mail Service configuration while the
MS Exchange client is running, you will need to exit and restart the
client for the changes to fully take effect. Several problems can
arise if this step is skipped including not being able to access the
Address Book and not being able to use some of the functions
contained in the "Configure cc:Mail Service" property pages.
