Notes on FastFonts
===================

This file contains information that you might find useful:
information about the way things work with specific hardware
or software configurations, and information that didn't make it
into the manual in time.

  * While running the FastFonts application, context-sensitive
help is available by pressing F1.

  * PCL4 fonts created with Fastfonts don't retain their
previous names. Usually, the names will be saved as an
alphanumeric filename or an alternate name not controlled
by the user (nor by FastFonts).

  * Note that under some circumstances, such as

       * editing a Special Effects or Picture font
       * using the Font Metrics Editor to change a font's
          width or kerning
       * changing the FastFont selected printer

active applications may not become aware of your changes
immediately. The changes will take effect if you minimize
and then restore the application's window.

  * When using the double underline text edit option in
Microsoft Word, and outputting to a color printer, the
second or lower underline is black.

  * Fastfonts can't use some EPS art created with Corel Draw.
Try saving art in AI (Adobe Illustrator) format.

  * If a FastFonts font and a TrueType font have the same name
(a condition that may occur if you converted fonts from
one format to another, as with Atech's AllType Font
Converter), the TrueType font will be used in your
application, and not the Atech font. You can fix this by
deleting the font you created, and perform the conversion
again, but this time use another name for your font.

  * Powerpak users - In Powerpak, a font can have several
variations. For example, a variation of Marin could be
Marin Hollow. With Powerpak, the application lists the
font as "Marin Hollow". In FastFonts, the naming
conventions have been changed, and the same font created
in FastFonts would be named "Marin HO" (unless you
override the default name with "Marin Hollow"). Your
application will not recognize the two font names as
being the same, and it will substitute another font for
Marin Hollow. To overcome this problem, when you convert
the Marin variation, rather than accepting the default
name, rename the font in FastFonts to Marin Hollow.

  * Bitmap images - If your bitmap images don't print, try
this fix: Using PC-PaintBrush, import and resave the file.

  * This version does not support greyscale bitmaps. For
color bitmaps, the following colors are supported:

          0 Black
          1 Red
          2 Green
          3 Yellow
          4 Blue
          5 Magenta
          6 Cyan
          7 White

  * Font Metric Editor now has a Add Kerning menu item to
add kerning pairs to a font. Select Add Kerning menu item
to add kerning pairs to your kerning table. For the advanced
user, a kerning pair can still be added by typing in the
desired pair in the Edit Kerning Dialog box.
