              	     NETWARE MOBILE RELEASE NOTES

       For a general description of NetWare Mobile, users should
       read the NetWare Mobile User's Overview and run the quick
       tour, which provides an introduction to the product using
       text and graphics. The quick tour can be installed during
       NetWare Mobile installation and uninstalled after it has
       been run.

       For information about installing NetWare Mobile, users and
       network administrators should read the NetWare Mobile
       Installation and Administration Guide. This manual also
       includes information about advanced configuration issues,
       login scripts, and (for NetWare 4.x users) administration
       support via NWADMIN.

       After installation, both users and administrators can use
       the extensive online help available in NetWare Mobile for
       detailed information about the product and its features.

       The following Release Notes contain important information
       that is NOT included in the online help or the manuals.

1.0 USING NETWARE MOBILE WITH WINDOWS 95

1.1    Installation

       Before you install NetWare Mobile on a computer running
       Windows 95, make sure you have your Windows 95 CD-ROM
       or installation diskettes available.

1.2    Name-only Files Offline

       Under Windows 3.1 (or later), NetWare Mobile displays a
       message when you attempt to open a file offline that has
       been replicated as name-only. This message is disabled
       under Windows 95, however, because Windows Explorer
       attempts to load ALL executable files automatically when
       you view them.

1.3    Offline Printing

       Read the following subsections (1.3.1 Setting Up the
       Offline Printer and 1.3.2 Printing Offline Jobs to a
       Printer) if you want to print offline using NetWare
       Mobile.

       If you experience problems, however, use Windows 95
       deferred printing rather than NetWare Mobile offline
       printing.

1.3.1 Setting Up the Offline Printer

       Before printing to the Offline Printer for the first time,
       set it up as follows:

       1. Open the Printers folder (from My Computer, for example)
          and click on the icon for the Offline Printer (generic).

       2. Click Properties in the Printer menu.

       3. Click the Details tab and then click the Spool Settings
          button.

       4. Check the Print directly to the Printer radio button.

       5. Close the Spool Settings dialog, the Properties dialog,
          and the Offline Printer dialog.

       6. Check that the Work Offline option is not checked in the
          Printer menu, if you are using a network printer.

       Offline print jobs will not appear in the Windows 95
       Offline Printer (generic) display. To view them, you must
       use the Offline Print Assistant in the NetWare Mobile
       program group.

1.3.2 Printing Offline Jobs to a Printer

       Like some other applications written for Windows 3.1, the
       Offline Print Assistant needs network printers to be set up
       in a particular way before it can print offline jobs to
       them. The following procedure is also described in Windows
       Help.

       To print to a network printer ...

       1. Associate the printer with a network queue using the
          Windows 95 Add Printer Wizard, before attempting to
          print, rather than using NetWare Printer Connections.

       2. Open the Printers folder (from My Computer, for example)
          and click on the icon for the printer you want to use.

       3. Click Properties in the Printer menu.

       4. Click the Details tab, and then check the port specified
          in the Print To The Following Port box.

       5. If the specified port begins with the letters LPT, the
          port is set up correctly. Close the properties dialog
          box.

          If the specified port begins with backslashes (\\),
          write down the text that appears in the Print To The
          Following Port box, and then carry out the following
          steps:

       6. Click Capture Printer Port.

       7. In the Device list, select a printer port that you are
          not already using.

       8. In the Path list, type the text you wrote down in step 5,
          and then click OK.

       9. In the Print To The Following Port box, select the port
          you chose in step 7.

2.0    USING WINDOWS FILE MANAGER

       You can use Windows File Manager to perform some mobile
       file tasks without using the Mobile File Assistant.

       After NetWare Mobile is installed, you will find that File
       Manager has a "Mobile" menu bar option. This menu allows
       you to display mobile file information, synchronize mobile
       files, and take and untake (remove) network files on your
       own hard disk.

       NOTE: For performance reasons, do not use Windows File
             Manager to replicate network files over a slow
             dial-in link if you are running Compaq Tabworks
             V1.0. Use the Mobile File Assistant in the NetWare
             Mobile program group.

       If you want to remove this feature from File Manager,
       delete the NetWare Mobile Extension statement from the
       [AddOns] section of C:\WINDOWS\WINFILE.INI.

3.0 LOADING NETWARE MOBILE DRIVERS INTO UPPER MEMORY

       LOCATION.EXE, DNWHELP.EXE, and MRUDRV.SYS are loaded in
       CONFIG.SYS under [common].

       MRUDRV.SYS and DNWHELP.EXE can be loaded high. Use
       DEVICEHIGH for MRUDRV.SYS and INSTALLHIGH for DNWHELP.EXE.

       LOCATION.EXE, however, should NOT be loaded into upper
       memory.

4.0 PRINTING OFFLINE FROM NOVELL PERFECTOFFICE PRESENTATIONS

       If you are using Novell PerfectOffice Presentations offline
       and you try to print an open file, you may get a "File I/O"
       error message, unless you are working on a new file or a
       file in the root directory. The error is caused by the
       format of the title which Presentations passes to the
       printer driver.

       To avoid this situation, do the following:

       1. Use the "Save As.." option in the "File" menu to save
          the file to the root directory. The title will change,
          from c:\...\filename to c:\filename.

       2. Print the file you saved to the root directory.

       3. Use the "Open.." option from the "File" menu to re-open
          the original file, if you wish to continue working on it.
          This will open a new window.

       4. Return to the window from which you printed and use the
          "Close" option from the "File" menu to close it.

       5. Delete the file you saved to the root directory. You can
          do this at any time, using Windows File Manager.

5.0 PROBLEMS WITH ATI VIDEO DRIVERS

       Many computers are shipped with ATI video as standard. If
       you are using ATI mach8 or mach32 hardware and drivers, you
       may encounter problems if you exit Windows before closing
       NetWare Mobile programs such as Locations or the Mobile
       File Assistant. These problems are characterized by Windows
       exiting more quickly than usual, leaving blank lines at the
       top of the screen when returning to the DOS prompt and
       leaving the system in a generally unstable state so that
       running further programs results in crashes.

       To avoid these problems, mach32 users should upgrade to
       version 2.5 (or later) of the ATI video drivers. Contact
       your supplier or ATI Technologies Inc., 33 Commerce Valley
       Drive East, Thornhill, Ontario, Canada L3T 7N6.

       A possible alternative to upgrading is to edit the [mach32]
       section of WIN.INI to set DeviceBitmap=OFF and
       DeviceBitmapDraw=OFF.

       For both mach32 and mach8 users, a possible alternative is
       to use the IBM 8514/a video driver with the ATI hardware.

6.0 INCORRECT MOBILE FILE STATUS IN NWADMIN

       If you run NWADMIN to create a Mobile File Group object and
       modify the new object by adding a network directory to the
       file group, all files in the directory will be included. If
       you then exit NWADMIN and create some new files in the
       directory, those files will not be marked as "mobile" when
       you re-start NWADMIN to further modify the Mobile File
       Group. The new files are, in fact, mobile and any user that
       has taken the file group will get the new files the next
       time they synchronize with the network.

7.0    USING THE QUICK TOUR

       To choose buttons in the NetWare Mobile quick tour using
       your keyboard, press the appropriate letter key only rather
       than <Alt> + the letter key.

8.0 ADVANCED DIAL-IN SERVICE CONFIGURATION OPTIONS

       The advanced dial-in service configuration options in the
       PPHONEBK.INI file are described incorrectly in the NetWare
       Mobile Installation and Administration manual. Refer to the
       section called "Advanced Dial-in Service Configuration" in
       Chapter 3, "Advanced Location Configuration".

       IPXCompress=1 should be: EnableIPXHeaderCompression=Yes

       MRU=1500 should be: MaximumSend/ReceiveSize=1500

       TCPIPComp=1 should be: EnableIPHeaderCompression=Yes

       PCompress=1 should be: CompressConnectionIdentifiers=Yes

       ACCompress=1 should be:
       CompressHeaderAddressAndControlFields=Yes

       RemoteAddress=0 should be: RemoteIPAddress=0

       AsyncCCMap=0 should be: AsynchronousControlCharacterMap=0

       ConfigReq=10 should be: ResendConfigurationRequest=10

       TerminateReq=2 should be: ResendTerminateRequest=2

       ConfigNAK=10 should be: ResendConfigurationNAK=10

       Timeout=3 should be: RetransmitRequestPackets=3

9.0    PATH MODIFICATIONS DURING INSTALLATION

       To prevent potential DLL name conflicts between NetWare
       Mobile and software such as LAN WorkPlace and NetWare
       Connect, any existing net\bin entry in a PATH statement
       will be disabled during NetWare Mobile installation. REM
       will be added to the beginning of the PATH statement in
       AUTOEXEC.BAT. If you need to enable the net\bin entry,
       try adding it to the PATH statement AFTER the \nwmobile
       entry.

10.0 INSTALLING SERVER COMPONENTS ON A NETWARE 3.X SERVER

       In addition to the client software, NetWare Mobile includes a
       Synchronization Accelerator which you can optionaly install on
       a network server which supports NetWare Mobile clients.

       To install the Synchronization Accelerator on a NetWare 4.X server,
       refer to the NetWare Mobile Installation and Administration Guide.

       To install the Synchronization Accelerator on a NetWare 3.X server,
       refer to the following sections. For further information on the
       Synchronization Accelerator refer to the section Configuring the
       Accelerator on the Server on page 27 of the Installation and
       Administration Guide.

10.1 Installing the Synchronization Accelerator (NLMDELTA.NLM)

       You can install the Accelerator on any any NetWare 3 server on which
       CLIB version 3.12 or later is also installed.

       Do the following:

       1. Insert the the first NetWare Mobile installation diskette into a
          disk drive on the server or load the CD-ROM.

       2. At the console prompt, enter the following:

          LOAD INSTALL

       3. After the installation has completed, you will need to modify
          AUTOEXEC.NCF to load the NLMDELTA.NLM each time the server is
          restarted, by adding the following command.

          LOAD NLMDELTA

       4. For NLMDELTA to be loaded you can either "DOWN" the server and
          restart NetWare or type LOAD NLMDELTA at the console command line.

10.2 Preparing to Install NetWare Mobile from a NetWare 3.X server

       For installation of NetWare Mobile from a NetWare 4.X server, refer to
       page 10 of the NetWare Mobile Installation and Administration Guide.

       If the computers on which you are going to install NetWare Mobile are already
       running NetWare client software, the quickest and easiest way to install the
       new software (if you have a multi-license version of the product) is from a
       network directory.

       Before you can do this, however, you need to pre-install the NetWare Mobile
       client software on an existing NetWare server by copying the files from each
       of the 5 distribution diskettes or CD-ROM to a directory on a NetWare volume.

       Now refer to the Running SETUP section on page 12 of the Installation and
       Administration Guide.
