Open File Manager Technical Notes
May 26, 1995

TECHNICAL SUPPORT POLICIES

Open File Manager has been extensively tested in a wide variety of
NetWare environments and with a representative sample of
popular user applications. When used in accordance with the
instructions outlined in the reference manual, it should perform
well with your backup application. If you
have any questions or problems with the operation of Open File
Manager, please go through the following steps:
1. Refer to the documentation supplied with the product. These
Technical Notes will list special information regarding
compatibility and product restrictions. Please read through
them before installing the product. The Reference Manual has
an easy-to-use index that will help you find information on
particular features of the product. The help files are also a good
source.
2. If you cannot find the information you need, contact us through
CompuServe. Type GO STBERNARD to find the appropriate forum.
We check the CompuServe forum on a regular basis and will be happy
to answer any question you might have.
3. Fax your question to us at 619-676-5055. We'll fax back an answer
in a timely manner.
4. If you are still unable to find a solution for your problem, call
our Technical Support department at 619-676-5050.
We have a well trained staff to help you work through the situation.
You will be required to register your product, if you have not already
done so, in order to receive free technical support. Please have your
serial number handy for the support technician.

You are entitled to free phone support for a 60 day period, starting
from the date of your first call, but you must be a registered user.
Please take a moment to fill out your registration card and send it in.
This will enable us to keep you updated on product information, as
well as qualifying you for technical support.

Technical support is available from St. Bernard Software from 7:00 am
until 4:00 pm Pacific time.

Technical support through CompuServe and fax is free of charge.
After your initial 60 days of free telephone technical support has
expired, additional calls will be charged at a rate of $50 per incident.
An incident is defined as a single problem experienced by you rather
than as a single call. The $50 fee must be charged to MasterCard,
Visa or American Express at the time of the call.

For your convenience, you can also purchase a package of technical
support incidents. Our Technical Support department will track these
for you rather than charging you each time you need to call for
assistance.
These are available at the following prices:
-5 incidents: $195
-10 incidents: $349

RELEASE LIMITATIONS

1. If you are using a workstation-based backup product such as
Xpress Librarian or you are backing up a remote server, you must
login with a specific user name that is reserved for backups.
Refer to page 3-18 in the Reference Manual.

2. Open File Manager requires CLIB v. 3.11d (dated December 16, 1992
or later).

3. The '0' key on the numeric keypad is inoperative on NetWare 3.12 only.

4. The use of two or more backup agents operating on the same group
of files at the same time is not recommended.

5. Database programs that use exclusive settings, such as Microsoft Access
may cache data on the workstation, which can lead to an invalid backup.
Remove the exclusive setting from the database, making it shareable.
VLM client software users can avoid this by setting CACHE WRITES OFF
in your NET.CFG file. You should put this line in a section entitled
"NetWare DOS Requester". For example:

NetWare DOS Requester
CACHE WRITES OFF

6. If you use database server software, such as Sybase or Oracle, under
NetWare 3.x, you must be sure to load Open File Manager after
DIRECTFS.NLM (which may be auto-loaded by the database software),
otherwise Open File Manager will be unable to manage the database files.

7. On installation, Open File Manager creates two default groups as follows:

	NW3 Bindery
	NW4 Directory Services

A single file is also set to Ignore (No OFM Operation):

	BACKOUT.TTS

8. If you are running NetWare v.3.11, have applied the NetWare patch
ASNCRDFX.NLM and files are being accessed using DFS, you may observe
a file sizing or read error in your backup application (the specific message
you see will depend on the backup software you are using). If you are using
Open File Manager, we recommend that you not apply this patch. If you
need this patch because of other applications and you observe the file sizing
or read error, the file being accessed at that time may not have been backed up.

9. When modifying the destination directory for log files, the change will
take effect the next time Open File Manager switches log files.

10. If you are using Open File Manager on the same server as anti-virus
applications, you should load the anti-virus package before loading Open File
Manager.
