THE AUTOCAD INSTALLATION
========================-

  - Driver Files Path Name Length
  - Uninstalling AutoCAD
  - Not Enough Disk Space Message -- Installer Update Option

Driver Files Path Name Length
=============================-
If at all possible, choose the default path name for the location to
install AutoCAD. If this is not convenient, make sure that the path to
the AutoCAD files is such that the drivers have a path name that is
safely less than 90 characters.

Assuming ACAD is installed in $ACADHOME and the drivers are in the
default file path $ACADHOME/DRV, then any driver
$ACADHOME/DRV/DRIVER.DLL must have a file path (including drive
letter) that is less than 90 characters.

Uninstalling AutoCAD
====================-
If you have installed both R13 DOS and Windows and are taking
advantage of the common (/COM) directory structure you should not use
the Windows Uninstall feature. The Windows Uninstaller removes the
shared files in the /COM directory tree used by both AutoCAD for DOS
and AutoCAD for Windows. These files are needed by AutoCAD for DOS.
To manually remove the Windows application, delete the /WIN directory
tree and remove the program icons.

Not Enough Disk Space Message -- Installer Update Option
========================================================-
If you choose the Update option, you may get a message about not
having enough disk space. The installer is checking for a full
install, not an update over an existing installation. If you know
that you have enough disk space, choose OK to continue. The update is
usually only a few additional MB's.

Using DXFIX with Norton Desktop on Windows 3.1
==============================================-
Norton Desktop has compatibility problems with the DXFIX utility. If
you use Norton Desktop, you should use the DXFIXND.EXE program in
place of DXFIX.EXE.

Long File Names on NT
=====================-
The SHELL command issues an error at the command line following an
attempt to call an executable with embedded spaces in it's file name.

OLE 2.0 Limits in AutoCAD
=========================-
+ Text that is Dragged and Dropped into AutoCAD from Word 7
    initially displays as a properly sized image. If that text is
    edited, the update causes the text to become very small and the
    size to be changed to a "Full Page" picture. This appears to be a
    problem with Word 7. One possible workaround is to use WordPad
    instead of Word.

+ Create from file brings AutoCAD up in a dormant state in the
    background. When starting as an OLE server, the AutoCAD screen
    does not appear. However, if the Aerial viewer or floating
    toolbars are enabled, then they will be the only thing visible.
    When inserting an AutoCAD drawing via "Create from File" and
    Aerial Viewer or floating toolbars turned on, expect to see ONLY
    the Aerial Viewer and floating toolbars, and NOT AutoCAD.

+ Objects from AutoCAD Pasted into Excel 7.0 come in as a blank,
    and only after Updating Links does the actual object show.

+ OLE objects during Pan&Zoom of a Plot Preview may sometimes be
    drawn in the wrong places. This does NOT affect the final output.

+ If AutoCAD is not running when you insert an AutoCAD object into
    Borland's Quattro Pro, Quattro Pro does not correctly start
    AutoCAD. Quattro Pro appears to time out before AutoCAD starts as
    a server. However, if you click OK and repeat the operation,
    AutoCAD starts and the operation succeeds.

Using ADS and ARX Applications
==============================-
The following problems are attributed to the use of SHARE.EXE:

+ ADS and ARX applications may fail to execute properly
+ ADS and ARX applications may fail to unload
+ The AutoLISP findfile function may not work correctly

To maintain file protection in a multi-user environment, use
VSHARE.386 instead of SHARE. You have three options, each explained in
greater detail below:

+   Use VSHARE.386 instead of SHARE.EXE
+   Continue to use SHARE.EXE
+   Use neither SHARE.EXE nor VSHARE.386

VSHARE comes with newer Microsoft Windows products such as Office,
Word, Windows for Workgroups, etc. VSHARE is a total replacement for
SHARE.EXE, so you don't need both. Take SHARE.EXE out of your
AUTOEXEC.BAT, and add the following line to the [386Enh] section of
your SYSTEM.INI file:

      device=vshare.386.

Continuing to use SHARE is not a problem assuming that you don't care
about being able to unload ADS or ARX applications. If you try to
unload an application with SHARE loaded, the unload fails cleanly with
a command line notice of the failure to unload -- AutoCAD continues on
without a problem.

It is also possible to run AutoCAD without loading SHARE or VSHARE.
Doing so will allow you to unload ADS and ARX applications but does
have the following consequences:

+ You are unable to use ASE and ADE without SHARE or VSHARE
+ Many Microsoft programs require SHARE or VSHARE to be loaded
+ File protection in a multi-user environment is compromised

DELL Computer Systems and Electronic Document Display Problems
===============================================================-
On certain DELL OPTIPLEX 466/L systems with a Tseng video adapter and
on the DELL ET 4000 version 1.11 VESA display driver, text might be
"blacked-out" (highlighted in black). This results in certain portions
of text from the electronic version of the AutoCAD documentation to be
unreadable.

Norton Desktop Problems with AutoCAD Dialog Boxes
=================================================-
When you have the Norton Desktop for Windows loaded, you might
encounter some difficulties with AutoCAD's file dialog boxes. To
workaround any problems, press ESC to cancel the dialog box, and then
reenter the command.

COMPAQ DeskPro XL 566 Users
===========================-
Users of COMPAQ DeskPro XL 566's need to make sure that Windows is
configured to disable 32-bit disk access. Failure to do this can cause
problems in Window's virtual memory subsystem, which will prevent
Windows from running properly.

To disable 32-bit disk access, edit the [386Enh] section of Window's
SYSTEM.INI file, setting the 32BitDiskAccess flag off. For example:

      ;32-BIT ACCESS NEEDS TO BE TURNED OFF IN COMPAQ XL 5/66
      32BitDiskAccess=off

DeskPro XL 566 user's can also use the 386 Enhanced icon from the
Windows Control Panel to change the 32-bit disk access setting. See
the Microsoft Windows User's Guide for more information on changing
swap file settings.

COMPAQ Qvision 1024/E Users
===========================-
If you are using a Compaq Qvision 1024/E card with Windows 95, using
the video driver shipped with Windows 95, you will see pixels left
behind on the graphic screen from some "dragging" operations such as
stretch. WHIP driver users will also see pixels left behind from
cursor movement. The problem can be fixed by upgrading to the v1.11.7M
driver from Compaq, available from their Web site, Compuserve and
other on-line sources.

Clipboard Issues
================-
The Clipboard features for Release 13 don't gray out depending on data
in the Clipboard viewer. The features affected by this are Cut, Copy,
Copy View, Paste, Paste Special, Links, and Insert Object.

Lack of Response from 16-bit OLE 2.0 Applications
=================================================-
AutoCAD might not respond to OLE requests from 16-bit OLE 2.0
applications. For example, using Insert, Object, from Microsoft Word
for Windows 6.0 and selecting AutoCAD will result in a message that
the application can't be found. This is recognized as a known problem
with Windows and not necessarily an AutoCAD problem.

AutoCAD Sessions
================-
Only one session of AutoCAD can be run at a time on DOS, Windows 3.x..
Before you begin a new session of AutoCAD, please wait until any
previous session has exited completely.

Updated Shaft Application
=========================-
Release 13 includes an updated Shaft sample application, which
demonstrates a Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE) link between AutoCAD and
Microsoft Excel. The Shaft menu is now a partial menu that can be
inserted anywhere on the Windows menu bar. For more information on
this application, see the comments in the file shaft.mnu, which is
located in the Windows sample directory.

Text and Font issues
====================-

Default Mtext Editor Font
-------------------------
When you choose CANCEL in the Select Font dialog box for a font to be
used in the Mtext Editor, AutoCAD uses the Arial font as the default
font.

RTF Text and the Mtext Editor
-----------------------------
RTF text isn't recognized by the Mtext Editor. Text from other
programs with embedded formatting will lose formatting when Imported
or Pasted into the Mtext Editor.

PostScript and TrueType Font Mapping in acad.ini
------------------------------------------------
The acad.ini file assumes that AutoCAD's TrueType fonts are not
installed in Windows. If you do install AutoCAD's TrueType fonts (by
using the Control Panel), the following items in the [MTE Fonts]
section should be changed as follows:

    bgothl=BankGothic Lt BT;400;0
    bgothm=BankGothic Md BT;400;0

The syntax of each of the above acad.ini entries is as follows:

    <name>=<face>;<weight>;<italic>

where:

name is the AutoCAD font name
face is the Windows typeface name
weight 1-1000 or 0 for default font weight
italic 0 for upright or 1 for slanted (Italic)

DOS-SPECIFIC INFORMATION
========================-

  - Using the Esc Key to Cancel
  - Vibrant Driver and Scripts
  - MTEXT and Memory
  - Importing a File with MTEXT and the Temporary File Name

Using the Esc Key to Cancel
===========================-
Pressing the [ESC] key should cancel the current command. If it
doesn't, use [CTRL]+[C] instead.

Vibrant Driver and Scripts
==========================-
You can't use scripts to configure this driver.

MTEXT and Memory
================-
If you run out of memory when MTEXT attempts to use the DOS editor,
configure your system so that you have more memory. You can put DOS in
high memory or use the SHROOM command before invoking AutoCAD. Consult
your DOS manual for instructions on how you do this.

Importing a File with MTEXT and the Temporary File Name
=======================================================-
When you import a file for MTEXT, load the file into the editor and
save it using the name AC000512. (the period or fullstop [.] after
"AC000512" is required). When you're prompted whether you want to
overwrite the existing file of the same name, choose Y (Yes).

The temporary file name AC000512. must exist when using MTEXT in a DOS
editor. If you attempt to rename the temporary file to a name other
than AC000512., the MTEXT operation will be canceled.

PLATFORM INDEPENDENT DRIVER INFORMATION
=======================================-

  - Digitizer Drivers
  - HP-GL/2 Plotters
  - Plotter Drivers

Digitizer Drivers
=================-

SKETCH Command with ORTHO ON
----------------------------
Using the SKETCH command with ORTHO turned on and a projective tablet
calibration produces unusual results. It is recommended that you turn
ORTHO OFF when SKETCHing.

Numbers Chosen from Digitizer Template
--------------------------------------
After picking any number (angle, etc.) from the digitizer template,
dialog boxes act as if FILEDIA was temporarily set to 0 (they don't
come up). Internally, AutoCAD is expecting the next input to be from
the template and so it suppresses dialog boxes.

Digitizers and Monitor Interference
-----------------------------------
Putting your digitizer close to, or on top of, the monitor may cause
the cross-hairs to oscillate due to electromagnetic interference. If
you see this behavior, try relocating the digitizer.

Screen Saver Interaction
------------------------
AutoCAD R13 digitizers will not interrupt an active screen saver. To
deactivate the screen saver, move the mouse or depress a key on the
keyboard. The backspace key works well.

HP-GL/2 Plotters
================-

HPRENDER
--------
If you are using an HP-GL/2 plotting device, and have configured
AutoCAD for rendering, you can use HPRENDER to configure the render
attributes and send the rendered drawings to an HP-GL/2 plotter.
Use the following procedure to configure for rendering.
1. At the command prompt, enter HPRENDER.
2. In the Render Configuration dialog box, verify that the .cfg file
    displayed at the top is the same as the current one displayed in
    RCONFIG. If not, use RCONFIG to change the .cfg file.
3. Set the render attributes.
    Render Type
     - Smooth  = smooth ON
     - Facet  = smooth OFF

    Media Size
     - Click on either inches or millimeters then specify the width
    and height of the media to be used in the plotter for rendered
    output. The size you specify is used as the default in HPMPLOT.

    Position of Rendered Plot on Media
     - Specify the bottom-left and top-right corners of the image to
    be rendered.

    Render to File
     - To send the rendered output to a file rather than to a
    plotter. Specify the filename in the window that appears.

4. To send the rendered drawing to the plotter, click on OK.

HPMPLOT
-------
To plot a drawing with only one viewport rendered, and the other
viewports not rendered, use HPMPLOT. The "M" in HPMPLOT stands for
mixed plot. After using RCONFIG to configure AutoCAD for rendering,
use the following procedure to render one viewport with HPMPLOT.
1. At the command prompt, enter HPMPLOT.
2. In the Mixed Plot Configuration dialog box, verify that the
    plotter displayed at the top is the same as the one whose .cfg
    file is current in RCONFIG. To change the current plotter, click
    on the Device and Default selection.
3. Change the following mixed plot parameters as required.
    Media Size
     - Click on either inches or millimeters, then specify width and
    height of the media to be used in the plotter. The default is as
    specified in HPRENDER.

    What to Plot
     - Choose whether the area to be plotted is:
          Display: as displayed on screen.
          Extents: as defined by the extents of the drawing.
          Limits: as defined by the LIMITS variable.

    Hide Lines
     - Select this option if you don't want hidden lines to be
    plotted.

    Render Type
     - Smooth = smooth ON
     - Facet = smooth OFF

    To File
     - To send the output to a file rather than to the plotter.
    Specify the filename in the window that appears.

    Scale
     - To plot the drawing to the same scale as specified in the
    drawing, keep the default display of 1 to 1. To plot to an
    enlarged scale, make the Plotted Units greater than the Drawing
    Units. If you want the drawing to be scaled to fit the media
    size you specified earlier, choose Plot to Fit.

    Viewport to Render
     - Click on Select , then choose the relevant viewport in
    AutoCAD.
4. To send the drawing to the plotter, click on OK.

Plotter Drivers
===============-

Default Plot Rotation and Offset
--------------------------------
Release 13 redefines the default meaning of plot rotation and offset.
Many plots produced with R13 using R12 plot rotation and offset
parameters will not produce the same results under R13 as they did
under R12.

Chapter 10, "Layout and Plotting," in the AutoCAD User's Guide
contains a detailed discussion of the new plot rotation and offset
mechanism.

If you want to revert to the R12 method of plot rotation and offset,
change the value of the SETVAR, PLOTROTMODE to 0. The default is 1,
which implements the new plot rotation and offset mechanism.

Operator call warning on Canon LBP-4
------------------------------------
When the Canon LBP-4 device is powered up, it loads the setting for
current paper size from its non-volatile RAM. This paper size setting
cannot be changed from the front panel of the device. Typically, the
initial paper size value will be A4 paper. To change this, the user
must run the Windows-based utility provided by Canon.

Since some AutoCAD users will not have access to Windows, AutoCAD will
now send down a command to change the current setting for the paper
size based on the user's configuration selection during the plotter
configuration.

The first time that a user sends a plot to the device after it has
been powered up, and assuming that the AutoCAD paper size selection is
different than the initial paper size setting in the nonvolatile RAM,
the printer will go off-line and display an operator call message.
Pressing the on-line button will dismiss this message and printing
should proceed without error. This error will not appear again until
the user has:

+ Cycled power to the printer
+ Reconfigured the driver for a different paper size

=====================================================================-
WINDOWS-SPECIFIC DRIVER INFORMATION
===================================-

  - AutoCAD WHIP Display List Driver
  - Video Display Drivers (Windows)
  - Digitizer Drivers (Windows)
  - Plotter Drivers (Windows)

AutoCAD WHIP Display List Driver
=================================-
If you are upgrading from an earlier version of AutoCAD R13, you
should read the R13C4NEW Help file (for Windows) or the R13C4NEW.TXT
file (for DOS) which contains Installation Guide Additions. The
sections covering Chapter 1 and Appendix A provide additional
information on the WHIP driver. The information covered in that
document is not repeated here.

After installing/configuring the AutoCAD WHIP display list driver,
refer to the Online Help file accessed from the driver configuration
dialog for additional details concerning the functionality of the
driver.

The WHIP driver is designed to work with the c2, c3 and c4 releases of
AutoCAD. In addition, this driver should also work with the c0 and c1
releases, however it has not been tested with them.

If you have an application that does not appear to be working
correctly with the WHIP driver, it is recommended that you reconfigure
AutoCAD to use the Accelerated driver from Rasterex, or use an
independently developed accelerated driver.

The version of WHIP delivered with AutoCAD R13 c4 does not support
loadable Heidi drivers.

Render and WHIP
---------------
SAVEIMG of full screen does not save the side menu (if it is present),
the menu area is simply filled in with background color. If you need
to save the screen menu, use a different display driver.

The UCS icon may be garbled in render/merged images.

WinG/WHIP Driver-Specific Problems
----------------------------------
WinG depends on Windows display drivers written by independent
hardware manufacturers for much of its speed. Bugs or performance
problems in independently developed display drivers may cause problems
with WinG. In many cases, the video card manufacturer has already
fixed the bug, and upgrading your display driver will often clear away
problems.

The following is a list of known bugs related to specific display
drivers by manufacturer. This list is not intended to slight the
manufacturer or any particular card or driver. A list of stress-tested
configurations is available on the CompuServe WINMM forum and also on
ftp.microsoft.com.

+ Early drivers for Diamond Viper cards included a "Power-Palette"
    option that is no longer supported by Diamond. Diamond recommends
    that you upgrade your drivers if you have this option. WinG may
    be slower when the power palette is enabled.

+ IBM no longer supports the IBM ThinkPad 720c. There are some
    problems using WinG with the ThinkPad 720c display drivers.

+ Cirrus drivers (for some chipsets) prior to version 1.43 have
    many known bugs that have been fixed in more recent drivers. Be
    sure to upgrade your drivers to at least version 1.43 or later,
    except in the case of Cirrius 5434 chipsets, where the latest
    versions are 1.22 and 1.24.

+ Some ATI drivers offer a "Crystal Fonts" option. Turning Crystal
    Fonts on in an 8-bit mode sets up a non-palletized driver that
    can significantly slow the performance of WinG.

+ The ATI Mach 8 Radical drivers cause a number of problems in both
    WinG and in Windows when used with some versions of the ATI
    chipset.

+ The ATI VGA Wonder drivers (W31-*.drv) will crash during a call
    to StretchDIBits in the profiler. Users can run the SVGA256.DRV
    driver that shipped with Windows. Many micro Crystal drivers have
    problems with StretchDIBits, and may crash during profiling.

+ Early ATI Mach 32 PCI cards have a hardware timing problem and
    will hang while blting. ATI will replace these cards at no cost.

+ WinG is incompatible with the #9GXE "TurboCopy" mode. Use the #9
    control panel to disable TurboCopy. This mode is off by default.

+ WinG uses a GetPixel to synchronize with display hardware when
    writing directly to the screen. The ATI Mach 32 driver's GetPixel
    does not work properly, so it is possible to use GDI to draw to
    the screen. Then use WinG to blt to the screen and have them
    overwrite each other. Be careful mixing GDI drawing commands and
    WinG blts to the display.

+ The Orchid MMTLLO.DRV driver for the Prodesigner IIs has
    duplicate system colors which prevents applications from getting
    an identity palette, and greatly reduces the WinG blt speed. A
    workaround is to set SYSPAL_NOSTATIC mode or use the standard
    Tseng ET4000 drivers instead of the mmtllo drivers.

+ When Windows is configured for greater than 256 colors, it has
    been reported that some S3-based video cards have encountered
    anomalies using the WHIP driver in conjunction with AutoCAD
    Render. It is recommended that you configure your Windows video
    display driver for 256 colors if you should encounter any odd
    behavior.

+ We have a report of WHIP incompatibility with the Paradise Bali
    32 Windows display driver. Configuring without that driver (or
    inversely without WHIP) works fine.

+ AutoCAD is unable to load WinG while Microsoft Write is running.

Interactive Pan & Zoom
----------------------
The C3 patch to AutoCAD R13 provides two commands, RTPAN and RTZOOM,
to perform interactive panning and zooming. These pan and zoom
features are only intended for use with the WHIP display driver or a
high performance independently developed display driver. A slow
display driver will impact the performance of these features.

When the RTPAN and RTZOOM commands are active, no other AutoCAD
commands can be executed.

Note: RTPAN and RTZOOM are provided specifically for Release c3.
    Future compatibility with these commands is not guaranteed. For
    example in AutoCAD Release 14, this functionality may be merged
    into improved versions of previously existing commands.

MENU CONFIGURATION

To interact with RTPAN and RTZOOM, you must load the .MNU file to add
these features to the toolbar. Use the following procedure to add the
RTPAN/RTZOOM toolbar menu.

1. From the Tools menu, choose Customize Menus.
2. From the Menu Customization dialog box, enter RTPANZM.MNU in the
    File Name edit box.
3.  Choose LOAD.
4.  Choose CLOSE.

You can also enter MENULOAD from the command line to access the Menu
Customization dialog box.

The following sections describe the functionality of interactive
panning and zooming.

PANNING

To pan, enter RTPAN or select the hand icon from the RTPAN/RTZOOM
toolbar. The cursor changes to a hand cursor. By holding the pick
button down, the cursor is locked to its current location relative to
the drawing viewport display coordinate system. Graphics within the
window are moved in the same direction along with the cursor.

When you have reached a logical extent (edge of the drawing space), a
bar appears on the cursor indicating the side where the extent has
been reached. Depending upon whether the logical extent reached is at
the top, bottom, or side of the drawing, the bar that appears is
either horizontal (top or bottom), or vertical (left or right side).

When you release the pick button, panning is discontinued. You can
release the pick button, move the cursor to another location in the
drawing, then press the pick button again and continue to pan the
display from that location.

To exit panning at the new position, press RETURN or ESC.

ZOOMING

To zoom, enter RTZOOM or select the magnifying glass icon from the
RTPAN/RTZOOM toolbar. The cursor changes to a magnifying glass with a
+ and - symbol.

The current drawing window is used to determine the zooming factor.
The RTZOOM command uses half of the window height to move to a zoom
factor of 100%. Holding the pick button down at the mid-point of the
window and moving vertically to the top of the window, zooms in to
100%. Conversely, holding the pick button down at the mid-point of the
window and moving vertically to the bottom of the window, zooms out by
100%.

Note: If the cursor is placed at the bottom of the window, and the
    pick button is pressed down and moved vertically to the top of
    the window, the zoom in factor would be 200%.

When you have reached the zoom in limit, the cursor changes to a -
symbol, indicating that you can no longer zoom in. When you have
reached the zoom out limit, the cursor changes to a + symbol,
indicating that you no longer zoom out.

When you release the pick button, zooming is discontinued. You can
release the pick button, move the cursor to another location in the
drawing, then press the pick button again and continue to zoom the
display from that location.

To exit zooming at the new position, press RETURN or ESC.

Video Display Drivers (Windows)
===============================-

GDI Bypass limitations
----------------------
When the Accelerated Display Driver is configured for GDI bypass ON,
the driver communicates directly with the Windows video driver rather
than with the Windows GDI. This allows faster redraws of AutoCAD
drawings. This method works on Windows 3.1 only. It cannot be enabled
on NT or Windows 95.

If you are having a problem which seems to be related to the video
driver, you can try turning GDI bypass OFF or switching to the non-
accelerated display driver. You might also try upgrading to the video
card's latest driver. Contact the vendor or dealer.

Display drivers which do not support aerial view
------------------------------------------------
If you select the AutoCAD Windows driver (as opposed to the
Accelerated driver) during configuration, you will see a message box
warning that the aerial view is being disabled because the display
driver interface is invalid. You may also see this when using a third
party display driver.

This means that the driver does not support the functions needed by
the aerial view. It is up to the third party driver supplier to add
these functions, as described in the WIN32s ADI driver kit for R13.

It's also possible for third party drivers to provide their own aerial
view and/or magnifying glass which is different from AutoCAD's built-
in one.

Display driver configuration information
----------------------------------------
Different display drivers may store their configuration information in
different places. The Windows display driver (DSACAD.DLL) has no
configuration and thus no configuration information. The accelerated
Windows display driver (DSAI.DLL) places its configuration information
in the acad.ini file, in the section [DSAI]. Other third-party drivers
may store their information in a different section of ACAD.INI or in a
different .INI file altogether. See the documentation for the
particular driver you are using.

Drawing colors in AutoCAD R13 for Windows
-----------------------------------------
AutoCAD R13 for Windows does allow you to redefine the AutoCAD drawing
colors (1=255). You can change the background color (via Preferences)
but not the drawing colors.

Digitizer Drivers (Windows)
===========================-

Microsoft Mouse Driver v9.01
----------------------------
Using the Microsoft Mouse driver 9.01 can cause known errors, such as
GROWSTUB errors. Your pointer might not snap to the default button in
a dialog box; attempts to access the Mouse Manager in the Windows
Control Panel can cause the Mouse Manager to crash and the Control
Panel to quit. You may choose to upgrade your driver; however, this
message does not affect the performance of AutoCAD.

Digitizer Behavior with SKETCH Command
--------------------------------------
(Win 3.1) There is potential for confusion over how the digitizer
should act in AutoCAD Windows. For example, documentation for the
SKETCH command says that the first button (2nd physical button) issues
the 'line to point' command; however, with that button the user gets
the 'record lines and exit' command normally issued by <CR>. AutoCAD
is not broken; the digitizer is acting like a mouse, and the first two
buttons are not digitizer buttons but the left and right mouse
buttons.

Unless TABLET mode is ON in AutoCAD, the digitizer will be a mouse
with one exception for the SKETCH, or any other, command. The
exception is the button that brings up the cursor menu.

Use Latest Wintab Drivers
-------------------------
(Win 3.1) Make sure you have the very latest Wintab driver from your
digitizer manufacturer before configuring AutoCAD for the Wintab ADI
driver. Old versions of Wintab may not work correctly, and some may
even cause AutoCAD to crash. The problem is in the system drivers
provided by the tablet manufacturers, not AutoCAD. Make sure you test
AutoCAD with your version of Wintab before editing your drawing in
AutoCAD.

Reconfiguring a Wintab Driver
-----------------------------
If you have AutoCAD configured for a Wintab digitizer and then
reconfigure the operating system to work with another Wintab
digitizer, you must also reconfigure AutoCAD and select Wintab from
the list of digitizers. The reason for this is that the coordinates
stored in AutoCAD's configuration file marking the location of
digitizer screen areas will change for different Wintab
configurations.

Mixing WINTAB.DLL Files
-----------------------
Different manufacturers of Wintab digitizers supply different versions
of 'WINTAB.DLL', the driver that AutoCAD communicates with from its
ADI driver. Make sure that 'WINTAB.DLL', usually located in your
'window' or 'windows/system' directory, matches the one supplied with
the digitizer. Usually you cannot mix 'WINTAB.DLL' with the drivers
from another manufacturer.

Tablet Screen Area Selection Problem
------------------------------------
In some Wintab implementations, you may need to select the tablet
screen area points twice to get AutoCAD to recognize them. This
problem is in the Wintab drivers supplied by the tablet manufacturer.

Plotter Drivers (Windows)
=========================-

Windows System Printer
----------------------
When running under Windows 3.1, the Windows version of AutoCAD Release
13 uses the Win32s Windows extender to run in 32-bit mode. Some
printer drivers are known to cause erratic behavior when running under
Win32s. We have had the most success with drivers based on version
3.1.4 of the Universal Printer Driver.

If you experience problems printing to the system printer with R13,
you may try contacting your hardware to see if an updated driver is
available. The "About" button in the print setup of most vendor
printer drivers displays the version number of the driver.

DOS-SPECIFIC DRIVERS

  - Accelerated Display Driver (ADD)
  - Video Chipset/Board Information
  - Digitizer Drivers (DOS)

Video Display Drivers (DOS)
===========================-

Drawing colors in AutoCAD R13 for DOS
-------------------------------------
Many DOS AutoCAD display drivers allow you to redefine the AutoCAD
drawing colors (1=255). They may allow you to choose from among
various mapping schemes or to individually map specific drawing color
numbers to specific RGB values.

Accelerated Display Driver (ADD)
================================-

Configuring for your board
--------------------------
The driver displays a list of boards and chipsets supported by
Autodesk for R13. If your board appears in this list, choose it along
with a resolution that is appropriate for your hardware and monitor
configuration.

If your display board is not listed, then it may still be supported by
the driver through selection of a chipset that the driver supports.
The chipset of your display board is the main graphics circuitry used
on your display board. Consult your display board documentation or
contact the manufacturer for information about which chipset your
board utilizes.

You should also refer to the section titled "Video Chipset/Board
Information" which contains cross-references of many boards and chip
sets.

Unsupported boards
------------------
The driver does not currently support the following boards:

      STB POWERGRAPH XL-24

Changing the background color
-----------------------------
The default background color is black. To change this permanently to
another color, follow these steps:

1. Reconfigure the driver's custom configuration options. You can do
    this by typing CONFIG at the AutoCAD prompt, then choosing the
    Video display option, or directly by typing DLXCONFIG.
2. Choose "Menu Color Scheme" from the custom configuration menu.
3. Next choose the "Background/cursor" setting.
4. Change the "Graphics background" setting from "0" to another
    valid AutoCAD color index.
5. If you choose a white background (color index 7), then you must
    also change the "Cursor color" setting from "7" to "0" so that
    the crosshairs will appear.

Text window interactions
------------------------
By default, the driver displays the text screen as a window on the
graphics screen. This window can be moved, resized, or dismissed by
utilizing the window frame and buttons.

To disable the text window permanently and force the text screen to
appear full screen on your monitor, follow these steps:

1. Reconfigure the driver's custom configuration options. You can do
    this by typing config at the AutoCAD prompt, then choosing the
    Video display option, or directly by typing DLXCONFIG.
2.  Select "Bootup features".
3. Change the setting of the "Text Window" variable to off.

You may also disable the text window temporarily by using DLXTEXT=N to
disable the text window and using DLXTEXT=Y to re-enable the window.

Dual monitor support
--------------------
During the basic configuration of the product, you are queried for
single or dual screen mode. 'Single' screen mode uses the configured
display device for both text and graphics. 'Dual' screen mode uses a
monochrome card, if present, for display of the text screen. In 'Dual'
mode, there is no pop-up text window and the AutoCAD command area is
reduced to a prompt area, with all other output directed to the
monochrome screen.

There are some devices, however, which are incompatible with
monochrome cards. This either prevents the use of 'Dual' mode in these
cases or corrupts the display. Incompatible devices include:

+   All S3s except S3 801 with S3-core BIOS earlier than 1.1 and S3
    911/924.
+   Cirrus Logic 543X

On-line driver Help
-------------------
In some locales, the driver also implements an on-line Help facility.
To access it, type DLXHELP at the command prompt.

Video Chipset/Board Information
===============================-
The Accelerated Display Driver AutoCAD Release 13 for DOS (RCPDLX.EXP)
is graphics processor general, rather than board specific. This
display list driver represents a "superset" of graphics processors and
video cards supported in R12 DOS. It adds support for SVGA and GUI-X
based cards and chip sets which, based upon our research, became
popular with our customers during the Release 12 product cycle. It is
important to recognize that this driver will not deliver support for
all video cards which have been introduced to the market in the past
six (+/-) months due to low connectivity with Autodesk customers. As
always, board vendors continue to supply high quality and high
performance ADI 4.2 drivers with their products.

In order to facilitate matching of graphics cards to video processors,
this document cross references a wide variety of video cards to the
graphics processors they utilize. Although this document may not
contain references to every graphics card board made, it does list
many popular CAD accelerators and display controllers.

Please use this document as a guide when configuring the Accelerated
Display Driver. The document is divided into two separate sections:

The first section "Graphics Chip Sets & Video Boards" references
graphics processor/accelerator chips, S3 928, Weitek P9000, etc., to
video cards which implement them.

The second portion "Video Boards and their Chips" cross-references
graphics board products (by manufacturer) to the video processor they
utilize.

Graphics cards (and chip sets) which MAY be compatible with supported
processors are listed for informational purposes only and are
identified by an asterisk (*). The list also cross-references
UNSUPPORTED chips and video cards. These cards and chips are marked
with an exclamation point (!) Should you have any question as to the
compatibility of your video card with AutoCAD Release 13 for DOS's
Accelerated Display Driver, please consult the product manufacturer.

Video Boards and their Chips
----------------------------
(v.53 - 11/3/94)

The purpose of this section is to provide guidance to customers who
wish to configure a graphics card for use with Release 13 for DOS's
Accelerated Display Driver.

As noted earlier in this document, the AutoCAD Release 13 for DOS
Accelerated Display Driver supports graphics processors that were
popular with Release 12 customers. Almost all of the newer graphics
accelerators now available on the market include high performance DOS
ADI 4.2 drivers for AutoCAD Release 13.

Please use this document as a guide only, as not all modes or
configuration options are available to video cards which use
compatible processors. In some instances, functionality may be limited
to certain resolutions and color depths.

L90 (*)           Trident           9400

The Acer CL, L20, L20E and L28 video cards should be configured for
use with the Accelerated Display Driver by selecting the generic
Cirrus Logic GD542x chip option. Full resolution and color depths of
these cards should be available under this option.

The Acer L90 card should function with the AutoCAD Release 13 DOS
Accelerated Display Driver by selecting the generic Trident 8900 chip
configuration option. Not all acceleration modes, resolutions or color
depths supported by the Trident 9400 processor will be available to
the L90 under this configuration. ADI 4.2 driver support is obtainable
directly from Acer and a number of independent driver developers.

The Actix GraphicsEngine Series of video adapters are all supported by
R13's DOS Accelerated Display Driver generic S3 configuration options
except for the GraphicsEngine 64. The S3 86C864-based GraphicsEngine
64 will function with limited functionality when configured for either
VESA or VGA modes.

The Cirrus Logic GD5434-based Actix ProStar 64-PCI may be operated
with limited functionality by configuring the R13 DOS Accelerated
Display Driver for the generic Cirrus Logic GD542x option.

Configure Actix' Spectrum HiColor VGA for use with the Release 13
Accelerated Display Driver by selecting Tseng Labs ET-4000 from the
graphics chip portion of the menu.

The Texas Instruments 34020 based Tiger-10 is not supported by the
Release 13 supplied display driver. Actix Systems and many independent
developers offer high performance AutoCAD Release 13 DOS (P386) ADI
4.2 drivers for use with TI 340x0 based graphics controllers. Contact
Actix Systems for more details.

The ADEX 8514 series of WD95C0x-based cards are supported via the
generic WD95C0x configuration option supplied in R13's Accelerated
Display Driver.

The ADEX Chromograph and 1280/AT utilize the HD63484 graphics

The Chips and Technologies 82C435/6 based EGA Wizard may function in
VGA mode (640x480x16 colors) when the Accelerated Display Driver is
configured for IBM VGA. Due to the age of this video card, customers
with this product should consider upgrading their video subsystem to a
higher resolution environment.

Limited resolution and color depth support may be obtained the V-5000B
based for Ahead Systems' VGA WIZARD series by configuring for standard
VGA. Higher resolution or color depth can be obtained through use of a
VESA (Video Electronic Standards Association) driver.

The Ahead Accel-64 Windows Accelerator is based on the unsupported
SuperChips GD168 video accelerator. Configure this card using the VESA
option.

Ahead Systems may not offer VESA support driver for all of their
cards. ADI 4.2 driver support is available for most Ahead Systems
boards directly from the manufacturer and a number of independent
driver developers.

bypassing the tablet button menu lookup. Therefore, pressing the
digitizer return key (usually the 2nd physical button) will not close
the dialog box.

NETWORK AND HARDWARE LOCK INFORMATION FOR PCS
=============================================-

This information supplements the AutoCAD Release 13 Installation
Guide. Because of the continued testing that has taken place after
printing of the manuals, there is additional network information
contained in this document. Therefore, it is recommended that you read
this document before installing and configuring Release 13 for
networks.

  - Hardware Lock Compatibility Issues
  - Novell Netware Client Software
  - SERVER System Variable

Hardware Lock Compatibility Issues
==================================-
The Rainbow hardware lock will work with IEEE 1284 compliant devices.
If non-conforming devices are connected to the hardware lock, it is
possible that they may not function properly. Some of the devices that
may cause problems include:

+ Older Traveling Software LapLink file transfer cable
+ Flying Dutchman file transfer cable
+   SCSI adapters
+   Ethernet adapters

If you are having problems with one of these devices, it is
recommended that you either remove the hardware lock from the cable or
connect the device to a separate parallel port as a possible solution.

Novell Netware Client Software
==============================-

Novell Netware 3.X Client Software
-----------------------------------
If you are a user on a Novell Netware Client using Version 3.X, you
should have at least read, write, and create rights (permissions)
setup in your drawing directories.

However, if the parent directory for your drawing directory does not
have create right specified, when you access the Open File dialog box,
the Read Only box will be checked. To be able to update your drawing
and write your updates to your drawing directory, you must de-select
this Read Only box.

Alternatively, you may want to upgrade your Novell Netware Server to
the most current software version (4.X).

Novell Netware 4 Client Software
--------------------------------
AutoCAD Release 13 users who use Novell Netware 4 Client Software
(VLM.EXE) must use Version 1.10 of the VLM files. Version 1.03 is
currently delivered with Netware Versions 4.0 and 3.12. The user can
get the following upgrade file from CompuServe: dosup9.exe.

SERVER System Variable
======================-
Prior to Release 13, the SERVER system variable indicated the number
of logged in users per the ACAD.PWD file. With the removal of ACAD.PWD
in Release 13, the number of authorized users is managed by the
AutoCAD network license server. For compatibility purposes, this
system variable is set to "1" on a networked system, and "0" on a
single-user system.

WINDOWS-SPECIFIC NETWORK INFORMATION
====================================-

  - Using Windows NT Clients with Novell Netware Servers
  - Windows NT and Windows 95 Network License Server

Using Windows NT Clients with Novell Netware Servers
====================================================-
Under some circumstances, AutoCAD drawing files that are written from
an NT workstation to a Novell Netware file server can open in read-
only mode for NT workstations. We found that upgrading to the latest
network software will remedy this. If this is a problem for you, we
recommend the following three steps.

+ Install/upgrade to the latest Microsoft NT Service Pack.
+ Install/upgrade to the latest Novell Netware client for NT and
    the first clause. Note, the order of these first 2 steps is
    important, i.e, do the Microsoft NT Service Pack upgrade before
    upgrading the Novell Netware client.
+ Also install the most current Novell Netware file server NLM
    updates.

Also be sure that read/write access has been assigned to the
directory. The Novell utility "Rights" can be used to check the
read/write permissions. Note that only the Novell File Server
administrator, via the system console utility, can be used to set
permissions.

Windows NT and Windows 95 Network License Server
=================================================-
A new unified version 4.40 network license server supports both NT and
Windows 95 platforms (NSRVGX.EXE). The new license server no longer
requires the IPX SAP Agent service for proper operation as in the
previous version. This provides a more consistent network connection
for the IPX protocol. If upgrading to this new server, you may elect
to remove this service if other application requires this. Windows NT
platforms upgrading to the new server will require you also upgrade
the Sentinel system driver. There are two ways to accomplish this:

+ Manually re-install the Sentinel driver as described in the
    Installation Guide.
+ Use the new Sentinel driver installer application

Installing the Windows NT Sentinel System Driver
------------------------------------------------
To install or upgrade the NT Sentinel driver using the new driver
installer application, run the install batch file, INSTALL.BAT, from
the AutoCAD driver directory: \R13\WIN\DRV\NTLOCK. You can run this
either from a DOS shell or from RUN via the File Menu. Then follow
these steps:

1. A window with the title bar "Sentinel Driver Setup Program" is
    displayed.
2. Select "Functions" and then "Install Sentinel Driver" from the
    menu bar.
3. A dialog box with the default path for the NT driver is
    displayed. Change the path if necessary and click "OK".
4. The Sentinel Driver and associated files are copied to the hard
    disk. One of the DLLs, SNTI386.DLL, SNTMIPS.DLL, SNTALPHA.DLL,
    or SNTPPC.DLL and SENTTEMP.HLP are copied to
    \%SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32. SENTTEMP.SYS is copied to the file
    \%SYSTEMROOT%\SYSTEM32\DRIVERS\SENTINEL.SYS.  %SYSTEMROOT% is the
    directory where Microsoft Windows NT has been installed.
5. If the driver installation is successful, a dialog box with the
    message "Sentinel Driver Files Copied Successfully" is displayed.
6. When complete, a dialog box with the message "Driver Installed!
    Restart your system" is displayed.
7.  Click "OK" to continue.
8.  Restart your computer.

If you need to configure a special(non-standard) I/O port, from step 2
select the "Configure Sentinel Driver" menu item instead.

Installing the Windows 95 Sentinel System Driver
------------------------------------------------
Install the Win95 Sentinel system driver if you plan to run a Win95
license server (NSRVGX.EXE). To install Sentinel driver VXD, change
over to the AutoCAD Win95 driver directory (\R13\WIN\DRV\W95LOCK) and
run the SENTW95.EXE from a DOS shell or from the Start/Run Button.

1. A window with the title bar "Sentinel Driver Setup Program" is
    displayed.
2. Select "Functions" and then "Install Sentinel Driver" from the
    menu bar.
3. A dialog box with the default path for the driver is displayed.
    Change the path if necessary and click "OK".
4. When complete, a dialog box with the message "Driver Installed!
    Restart your system" is displayed.

If you need to configure a special(non-standard) I/O port, from step 2
select the "Configure Sentinel Driver" menu item instead. You can
also uninstall the Sentinel driver by selecting the "Remove Sentinel
Driver" menu item from step 2. Be sure to restart your system to
allow the system driver to properly load. Once the Sentinel driver is
loaded, you can now start the license server.

The multi-protocol license server, NSRVGX.EXE, has additional command
option switches to aid in diagnosing network protocol access problems.
The following switches are:

/SN:0 Disables license grants from the NetBios/NetBeui
               protocol
/SW:0 Disables license grants from the IPX protocol

Note: It has been determined that the Win95 license server with the
August 95 release of Win95 may exhibit network license connection
problems with the IPX protocol. A revised version of the Win95
winsock.dll file is needed to correct the problem properly.
Microsoft, some time in the near future, will make this available via
their normal updates. This only affects the IPX network protocol. If
you use the default NetBios/NetBeui protocol, no problems have been
found with regard to the license server.

DOS-SPECIFIC NETWORK AND HARDWARE LOCK INFORMATION
==================================================-

  - New IPX Network Protocol DOS License Servers
  - Using the DOSMON Monitor Program

New IPX Network Protocol DOS License Servers
=============================================-
New IPX network protocol DOS license servers have been provided:

+   Novell Server NLM:  NSRVNI.NLM
+   DOS TSR Server:  NSRVDI.EXE

Update your system with these servers if they apply for proper
operation.

Using the DOSMON Monitor Program
================================-
The NetSentinel monitor displays information on all security servers
and NetSentinel keys in the network. This information includes the
server transport protocols, number of licenses in use, number of users
who were disconnected after timing out, and license limit for each
key.

The DOSMON monitor program is designed for DOS users who use a license
server as a TSR program. To use the DOSMON monitor program, follow
these guidelines:

1. Use the arrow keys and press ENTER to highlight a selection.
2. To return to the previous screen, press ESC. (Pressing ESC from
    the first screen exits the program.)
3. For help on any screen, press F1.
4. The monitor will recognize a mouse. On menus, a single click
    moves the highlight bar, and a single click on the highlight bar
    selects the menu option.

Starting the DOSMON Monitor
---------------------------
Before running the DOSMON monitor, start the appropriate network
transports (IPX/SPX or NetBIOS). Usually the NetSentinel monitor
automatically detects the type of display you are using. However, if a
monochrome display is used with a color card, the NetSentinel monitor
may detect a color display. To override automatic display sensing, do
one of the following prior to starting the monitor:

+ For a monochrome display, set the environment variable PNLMONO to
    "1".
+ For a color display, set the environment variable PNLCOLOR to
    "1".

To start the monitor, enter DOSMON and press ENTER. The monitor scans
the network for NetSentinel keys and displays an interactive menu to
display the findings. Move the highlight bar to the desired selection
and press ENTER.
