Installation
------------

1) Installing From a File Server

In order to install from a file server perform the following steps:

   a) create a unique directory. The name is not important.
   b) Copy each diskette into the created directory.
   c) From the network applet of the Control Panel, Add Software, Select
'other', and when prompted for a directory, specify the directory
      created in step a.

2) Parmset

After installation, the Parmset utility should be run to tune NFS
   performance.

NFS

1) Problems with SGI Servers

Warning: if you are running an SGI server, you should add a registry
entry "NOV3" with a value of 1. This should be added to the following
   registry key:

   Local_Machine\Software\Hummingbird\Maestro\NFSClient\CurrentVersion

Note that the above fix will cause NFS to run slower.

This will cause the NFS client to compensate for an SGI bug which causes
a server crash when we retransmit an NFS version 3 Directory-Plus call.

2) PC Naming Confusion

Many NFS servers have the capability to restrict mount access to a
particular machine. Note the use of the word machine as opposed to the
word user. Specifically, the machine name is completely distinct from
a user name used on a link command. Therefore, if access is restricted
to your machine, your correct username and password on another machine
   will not allow linking.

3) The setting of a default group for a connection may not be honored by
some NFS servers. Such servers will always create files with the
default group of the connected user.

4) Users of NT 3.5 who wish to register an NFS user name, must use the NFS
DOS command to do this. NT 3.51 users can use the NFS Network Access
   program.

Parmset
-------

Parmset is intended to be run by a single user at a time. If more than one
user is running Parmset at a time, the results will be unreliable.

Rsh and Rexec
-------------

If you use Rsh or Rexec to run an interactive application on the remote
system, data may be buffered. This may require you to type without seeing
actual prompts. You are far better using the telnet application in these
circumstances.

Inetd
-----

If you wish to enable the Hummingbird FTP daemon please ensure that you
have not enabled the NT FTP daemon. The same is true for the LPD and
Cookie daemons.
