TFS Gateway Microsoft Mail<->Internet Mail (UUCP)

---------------------------------------------------------------------------

With the TFS gateway your Microsoft Mail will be fully integrated with

Internet Mail via the UUCP Protocol. There are also TFS Gateway connections

to Internet from cc:Mail, Lotus Notes, Novell GroupWise (previously

WordPerfect OFFICE) and FirstClass. Ask Your retailer for more information

about these other TFS products.

FEATURES

TFS is developed with special consideration to international conditions and

has such subtleties as character conversions for different character sets.

The character conversion can be set individually at different levels down

to the adressee level. Handling addresses to Internet Mail is also easy for

Microsoft Mail users as TFS handles the special characters used in Internet

Mail. The administrator is in control of who is to use TFS, and can limit

the size of the messages for all individual users to be sent out on the

Internet via TFS. When binary files are sent out by TFS, they are

automatically packed in UNIX format (uuencode). Binary files that are

received by the TFS are automatically unpacked from UNIX format to DOS

format (uudecode). Messages received by TFS are automatically controlled in

order to confirm which character set is used and then convert the message

to the right character set.

MIME

TFS supports MIME (Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions), a type of

standard to handle character sets, binary files, sound and graphics. TFS

handles MIME as it handles other types of character sets, which means that

You can choose to send MIME at an addressee level. Incoming messages in

MIME format are treated correctly by TFS.

DIME / MAILBACK

TFS can handle Direct Information Message Exchange, meaning that

information can be sent to a previously determined library structure

without needing to go via a person. With DIME and an additional product

that is delivered with the TFS, You can build Your own Mailback System.

What this implies is that the customer or business partner sends an e-mail

address to a DIME-address and orders information. The information is then

automatically sent back to the person.

REFINEMENTS

If You communicate via Internet Mail from one TFS to another, there exists

a receipt function - something not generally supported by Internet. To

furthermore increase the security of the mail system, it is possible to

install a VIRUS-check to control incoming binary files. Signature files can

also be generated by TFS. In addition to this, one can also join together,

compress AND encrypt messages that are sent between one TFS and another.

This TFS concept is called "Tunneling". This enables companies, with e.g.

several offices, to use TFS as Postmaster at the offices and Internet Mail

as carrier of the information between the offices - instead of the office

being dependent on calling each other.

HOW TO SET UP A TFS GATEWAY

TFS can be installed in two different configurations: 1. If You need or
