When Quarterdeck CleanSweep arrived, Saturday, I decided to evaluate it
since I've been trying every uninstaller to hit the boards for a while,
now. BTW, thanx for the upload, Bjorn.

CleanSweep is basically a polished-up version of Landmark Uninstall-It.
I don't currently have Uninstall-It on my machine, but CleanSweep shows
a very strong resemblance to the Landmark product, IMO. Quarterdeck's
is a much better implementation of the basic features from Uninstall-It,
tho. CleanSweep allows entire groups to be deleted at once, which I don't
recall being possible with Uninstall-It.

Quarterdeck CleanSweep is a very nice uninstaller for applications that
were not installed under a product such as Remove-It or WinDelete, which
both track the install process for 100% (or near) accuracy. CleanSweep
may very well have better "clean-up" features than Remove-It, where
system components, unused files and duplicates can be removed. This
area of the program was definitely very strong. Still, I gotta like
the approach of Remove-It and WinDelete of tracking changes made
during the install process rather than basically making guesses
about what happened during the install after the fact.

The Log-It feature of Remove-It is my favorite implementation of
tracking an install. Unfortunately, Remove-It is crippled by
attempts to run it on large LANs. Remove-It insists on scanning
the *entire* system every damn time it starts up. With large
LAN drives mapped, this process takes FOREVER. Hopefully,
Vertisoft will realize there is a very serious flaw in their
product and correct this situation in the next release.

To wrap this up, CleanSweep is a strong contender in the
uninstaller market--tops among products that do not track
actual installations of new apps. Remove-It remains my
favorite for systems with one or two local drives, not
workstations connected on LANs.

B.C.
