Delrina WinFax PRO 7.0 README Notes November 1, 1995
==================================================================
The following information reflects changes made since the first
editions of the Delrina WinFax PRO Getting Started Guide and
User's Guide went to press. You should review this information
prior to running WinFax.

Where applicable, these notes refer to specific sections in the
appropriate manual.

Using the Online Help
=====================

WinFax online help can provide you with detailed information when
you need it most -- while you are using WinFax. To get procedural
help, click the Help Topics command on the Help menu. For
context-sensitive information, use the What's This? "?" button
at the top of any dialog.

In cases where the online help and the manuals differ, the online
help is more up-to-date.

Running the CommSuite 95 CD ROM Demo
====================================

To take a guided tour of the new features in WinFax PRO 7.0
and the Delrina CommSuite, run the CommSuite 95 CD demo. This
demo also includes tutorials. The demo is available only on
CD versions of CommSuite 95 products.

You will need a sound card to hear the interactive portion of
the demo.

To run the demo:

1. Insert the WinFax CD ROM into your CD drive.

2. Click the Windows Start button, and click Run.

3. In the Open field, type D:\CS95TOUR\CS95TOUR.EXE and click OK.

If the CD ROM drive you are using is a letter other than D,
substitute that letter for D.

Note: For best results, close all other programs and change to
640x480 resolution before running the demo.

Upgrading
=========

Disabling the WinFax PRO 3.0 DOS TSR
------------------------------------
WinFax no longer comes with a TSR for DOS reception. If you are
upgrading from WinFax PRO 3.0, Setup detects and deletes your
existing WinFax DOS TSR (WFXTSR.EXE). If this TSR is in your
AUTOEXEC.BAT file, you should remove it.

Upgrading From WinFax LITE With Voice
-------------------------------------
WinFax creates a BFT event for each call tracking record
that was created in your WinFax LITE event logs as a result
of a hangup. Call tracking is not supported in WinFax PRO 7.0.
Remove these BFT events from your WinFax PRO 7.0 logs.

Upgrading From DelrinaFax PRO 3.0 and 4.0
-----------------------------------------
You cannot upgrade to WinFax PRO 7.0 from DelrinaFax
PRO 3.0 or 4.0 -- the French-language versions of WinFax.

General
=======

Using WinFax With a CAS Modem
-----------------------------
If you use WinFax PRO 7.0 with a CAS modem, contact the modem
vendor or manufacturer to ensure that you have the appropriate
CAS drivers for Windows 95.

Using WinFax on an IBM ThinkPad With an IBM Mwave Modem
-------------------------------------------------------
WinFax requires version 2.0 or later of the Mwave modem software.

Disk Space Requirements for Receiving Faxes
-------------------------------------------
WinFax requires a minimum of 1 MB of free disk space to receive
faxes. If your computer does not meet this requirement, WinFax
displays the following error message: "Disk is full. Unable
to receive faxes." Free up at least 1 MB of disk space, close
any other programs and ask the sender to resend the fax.

Fine Tuning the WinFax Printer Driver for Grayscale Faxing
----------------------------------------------------------
If you are sending a fax that contains grayscale images, you
may improve the appearance of the fax by adjusting the settings
for the WinFax printer driver. If you are printing to WinFax
from another program, select the WinFax printer driver and
open the corresponding printer properties or setup dialog.
On the Graphics tab, select Error Diffusion and set the
Intensity at approximately 175. You can modify these settings
as necessary to fine tune the fax. You can also change the
WinFax printer driver settings in WinFax. On the Setup menu,
click Program, then click WinFax Printer Driver.

Using the Delrina WinFax Scanner
--------------------------------
If you already have a WinFax scanner, you will need two additional
files in order to use it with WinFax PRO 7.0. You can find these
files on the Delrina CompuServe forum, Bulletin Board (BBS) and
World Wide Web (WWW) site, or contact Delrina Customer Service
to have a product update disk sent to you.

Using WinFax Macros
-------------------
For more information on using WinFax macros, see the WFXMACRO.TXT
file in directory in which you installed WinFax.

Adjusting ECM and 2D Compression to Optimize Faxing Performance
---------------------------------------------------------------
When you install WinFax, the Setup program sets Error Correction
Mode (ECM) and High Efficiency Compression (2D) to standard
defaults. By modifying these default settings, you may find
that you can increase faxing performance and reduce transmission
time.

ECM normally provides more reliable error-free faxing, but in
some cases it can cause reliability problems when sending to
particular fax devices. By default, ECM is off for sending, but
you can try enabling it to see if performance improves. By
default, ECM is on for receiving, and if you disable it you
cannot receive BFT events.

2D compression can greatly enhance transmission speed, but
it is not recommended for all system configurations. If you
enable 2D compression, you may experience problems when
sending faxes that contain grayscale images. In this case,
you can try disabling 2D when sending grayscale faxes.

For more details on changing these settings, see "Customizing
Modem Settings" in the WinFax User's Guide.

Retrieving BFT Events From a Remote Fax Station
-----------------------------------------------
In order to poll a remote fax station for BFT events, ECM
must be enabled on both the polling computer and the remote
fax station.

PackRat 4.0 Phonebook Does Not Open in WinFax
---------------------------------------------
If you cannot open the PackRat phonebook in WinFax, check
that the path specification in the [Polaris PackRat 4.0]
section of your WIN.INI file is correct.

Expanding and Collapsing Folders
--------------------------------
Use the plus and minus keys on your keyboard to expand and
collapse folders in WinFax. You can also do this in the
phonebook list in the Send Fax wizard.

Copying Column Headings
-----------------------
You can now copy column heading settings between folders in the
Logs or Phonebooks window. To copy headings, right click in the
folder list and select the Copy Headings command. Use this feature
to quickly and easily format the way folder information appears.

Delrina WinFax PRO Getting Started Guide
========================================

System Requirements (page 2-2)
------------------------------
WinFax supports Lotus Notes version 3.0 or later. You cannot
use Lotus Notes version 2.0 with WinFax.

Delrina WinFax PRO User's Guide
===============================

Adding and Removing Single Fax Pages (page 5-7)
-----------------------------------------------
You cannot add or remove single pages to or from a fax event.
The Add and Remove buttons no longer appear on the Fax Pages
dialog.

Setting Printer Driver Resolution (pages 13-4 to 13-5)
------------------------------------------------------
In the WinFax printer driver Properties dialog, the resolution
is set to Fax Resolution. You cannot change this setting. If
you want to change the resolution when sending a fax, on the
Send Dialog, click Options and select the setting in the
Resolution drop-down list.

2D Compression (pages 13-18 to 13-19)
-------------------------------------
The name of this feature has been changed to High Speed
Compression (2D).

Headers and CAS Modems (page A-8)
------------------------------------------
If you are using a CAS modem, WinFax automatically disables
the headers you set up in the CAS software. This eliminates
the problem of duplicate headers. To customize the WinFax
headers, click Program on the WinFax Setup menu, click the
Header tab and type appropriate text in the fields.

Database Optimizer/Rebuilder Utility (pages A-12 to A-13)
---------------------------------------------------------------
The executable file name for the database optimizer/rebuilder
utility has changed to DELFIX.EXE. This file is installed
in the directory in which you installed WinFax. You can run
DELFIX from the Run dialog on the Windows Start menu. If you
want to rebuild your database, run DELFIX.EXE. If you want
to optimize your database, run this file with the "-OPTIMIZE"
command line parameter.
