Meeting Maker XP Windows Trial
Version 3.1 Released June 1995
============================================

Thank you for installing the Meeting Maker XP Trial. Below are
some helpful hints for using it.

------------------------------------------
NOTES ABOUT THE MEETING MAKER XP 3.1 TRIAL
------------------------------------------
The Meeting Maker XP 3.1 Trial has been streamlined for faster
installation. The Trial version differs from the full product in the
following ways:

  - The Meeting Maker XP Trial contains a combined Server and
Administration application called the Meeting Maker XP Admin.
This combined application must be running for the Meeting Maker
XP Server to be accessed. Please avoid accidentally closing
this application. In the full product, the Server and
    Administration Utility are separate applications.
  - The Trial installer puts a Meeting Maker XP Admin application
icon in the Windows Startup folder. This ensures that the Meeting
Maker XP Server is launched automatically upon workstation restart.
  - Novell NetWare users can automatically create user accounts from
information stored in the Bindary. In addition, the Meeting Maker XP
Windows and DOS user software can be installed automatically using the
System Login Script. During installation, you MUST be logged in as
Supervisor or have equivalent privileges to benefit from these
    utilities.
  - When creating user accounts manually, the user's last name becomes
their Meeting Maker XP sign-in name. Creating user accounts
from information stored in the NetWare Bindary assigns the user's
Novell login name as their Meeting Maker XP sign-in name.
  - Do not attempt to import Meeting Maker XP 1.x or 2.0 server data
into a Meeting Maker XP 3.1 Trial. The full Meeting Maker XP 3.1
product supports this feature, but the Trial version does not.
  - For TCP/IP connectivity, the disk "NLM & Trial Extras" contains the
    Windows TCP/IP communication drivers.

----------------------------------

Maker XP Version 3 User's Guide for more information on these changes.

--------------------------------
NOVELL INSTALLER ISSUES
--------------------------------
- Because the Novell Installer utility modifies only the system login
script, the system login script is required when using the installer
utility. The installer utility appends a single instruction as the last
line of the system login script. This line holds open the login script
until the install is complete.

- A user's Windows directory must be listed in the workstation's PATH
statement. This PATH statement must be placed before the user login statement
in AUTOEXEC.BAT.

- If you do not accept the default destination in MMXPSET, Drive F:
MUST be mapped to the sys volume of the server you copy the Meeting
Maker XP files to.

- The Meeting_Maker group needs WRITE access to the MMXP and MMXP\TF
directories. If these directories are missing, an error message
concerning Trustee directory assignments appears when users
attempt to install the Meeting Maker User software.

--------------------------------
SETUP COMPATIBILITY ISSUES
--------------------------------
Meeting Maker XP 3.1 Trial is designed to work with the
Windows Program Manager. Third Party Program Managers may cause
inconsistent results due to compatiblity issues.
See your program manager documentation for further information.

SABRE NETWORK MANAGER

Installing Meeting Maker XP to a file server with Sabre Network Manager
running may cause setup to hang or not create icons.

To install Meeting Maker XP on the file server:
1. On your local drive, run ASETUP or USETUP to install Meeting
   Maker XP.
2. Copy the files in the MM directory to the file server.
3. To manually create icons for Meeting Maker XP applications on
the server, refer to Working with Program Items in the
   Microsoft Windows User Guide.

Other options:
1. Copy the compressed files from the Windows Meeting Maker XP
User Disk or the Windows Disk to a local disk or your network drive.
2. Use the DOS command EXPAND to decompress the files. (See the Expanding
Files section later in this document.)
3. Manually create icons.

--------------------------------
PROTOCOL ISSUES
--------------------------------
If IPC is a listed Protocol when selecting a Meeting Maker XP
server, either the IPX or IP driver did not load. This is either
due to a low memory situation, or improper driver installation.
If FTP's PC/TCP is loaded and NETBIOS is the only listed protocol,
the install program did not find the line: Device=C:\PCTCP\VPCTCP.386
as the first line under the [386Enh] section in your SYSTEM.INI file.
One way around this problem is to run SYSEDIT from Windows and move the
line: Device=C:\PCTCP\VPCTCP.386 to the first item in the [386Enh]
section and run TSETUP.EXE again.

Note: If you have not done a standard FTP installation, the path on the
Device= line may differ from the example above.

---------------------
IP
---------------------
When selecting a host, server, or hub, Meeting Maker XP offers the option
of entering multiple IP addresses or multiple DNS names. Some vendor
implementations limit the number of entries that are processed. If the
expected hubs or servers do not appear in the dialog box, repeat the
configuration process entering the desired items one by one. Although
this clears the existing items from the dialog box, any hubs or servers
initially found by Meeting Maker are preserved until the application
is shut down.

***IMPORTANT*** In FTP PC/TCP there is an eight item limit in the
configuration dialog box. Exceeding this limit causes the PC to
hang/lockup.

WINSOCK TCP/IP NOTES:

Meeting Maker XP 3.1 was tested under IP with the following:

Microsoft TCP/32
Wollongong PathWay 2.0
FTP PC/TCP 3.0
Chameleon NFS 4.01
SunSoft PC/NFS 5.1 (with patch described below)
Novell LAN Workplace 4.1

Consult your Meeting Maker XP administrator or the Meeting Maker XP User's
Guide for proper installation procedures.

If running SunSoft PC/NCS versions 5.0 or 5.1 contact SunSoft's
tech support at 1(800) 872-4786 and request patch number:S411041411-762.
The patch corrects problems in the latest versions including a memory
leak in winsock.dll, which Meeting Maker needs to operate.

FTP's PC/TCP WINSOCK version modifies AUTOEXEC.BAT. If you have a
customized AUTOEXEC.BAT, FTP makes a best guess as to the placement of
the .EXE files it needs to operate. Check FTP's example documentation to
ensure these files are placed correctly before rebooting the system or it
may lock up.

DISK COMPRESSION

If you are using Doublespace from Microsoft DOS 6.0, Setup may
send low disk space warnings, even though there is sufficient disk space.

SVGA ADAPTERS

Some SVGA adapters may experience screen redraw problems with Meeting Maker
XP Setup program. This has no effect on the installation procedure.

With some SVGA drivers, text in dialog boxes may appear cut off
vertically or horizontally. This does not effect performance. Contact
the SVGA adapter vendor for help.

WINDOWS USER RELATED INFO

Running Meeting Maker XP with the "Run Minimized" box checked in the icons
properties doesn't allow windows to be saved where they were left.
In the "run minimized" mode, windows open on top of each other

NORTON DESKTOP VERSION 1.1 AND 3.0

If Icons are scattered or overlapping within the Meeting Maker XP
Program Group, select the Program Group and choose Arrange Group Icons
from Windows menu.

You must enter the Startup Directory or Meeting Maker XP may create
multiple MMCLIENT directories. To avoid this problem, select the Meeting
Maker XP Program Item, choose Properties from the File menu, click Options,
and enter the Startup Directory.

If Sharing Violations occur during icon creation, click 'OK' at the error
and create the icons manually.

Running Setup from an open drive window and then canceling it, confuses
Norton Desktop and displays the wrong drive. If this happens, close the
drive window then reopen it.

INSIGNIA ETHERNET GATEWAY

This product ships with a default net number of 2. If your Meeting Maker XP
server is set up on a Macintosh and the Novell file server shows router
configuration errors, check to see if the Insignia Ethernet Gateway net
number is the same as one of your other net numbers.

--------------------------------
ERRORS DURING SETUP
--------------------------------
Errors are reported in the file TSETUP.TXT. This file is located in the
MM directory. If problems are encountered during the Meeting Maker XP
install, this file may help diagnose the problem.

VIEWING TSETUP.TXT

If you do not have a text editor, Setup uses the Program Manager's
default icon. Double-clicking on the icon to read the file produces
an error. To read the TSETUP.TXT file, exit to DOS and type the following
command:

TYPE \MM\TSETUP.TXT | MORE

The file can also be opened with Notepad or any other text editor.
Norton Desktop users can open the file with DeskEdit.
----------------------------------------------------------
NETWORK DRIVER MINIMUM LEVEL VERSION NUMBERS
----------------------------------------------------------
Meeting Maker XP 3.1 requires network drivers to be at the
following or higher version numbers:

NWIPXSPX.DLL - Date needs to be 1/29/92 or newer - version 1.31
NBIOS.DRX - Needs to be renamed to NBIOS.DRV if you are running NetBios
IPX.COM - Version 3.10 or higher
IPXODI.COM - Version 1.20 or higher
LSL.COM - Version 1.21 or higher
VIPX.386 - date 2/92 - Ver 1.12 - 9/92 Version 1.13 or higher

If you are on a Novell network and don't have VIPX.386 on your
machine, you may need to run Windows setup again.

OBSOLETE NETWORK DRIVERS

Older network drivers and those without version numbers are reported
as obsolete drivers in the MMSETUP.TXT files.

-----------------------------------------
SERVER AND ADMINISTRATION ISSUES
-----------------------------------------
In cross-platform environments, you can perform all administrative
functions from any PC or Macintosh workstation on the network.
When administering a PC server from a Macintosh, however, make sure
MacIPX, ON-IPX or MacTCP is configured appropriately on the workstation.

IMPORTANT: Do not forget the Admin password.
There is NO WAY TO RETRIEVE it if lost.

Server and hub names are case sensitive. Making server
and hub names unique is recommended to avoid confusion.

Do not run time-consuming applications (such as screen savers) on the same
machine as the server. If you anticipate more than 25 users, have one
machine set up solely as a dedicated file server. As the number of server
users increases, increase the speed and power of the machine the
server is running on. For 250 users or more, use several servers connected
by a hub.

Server startup and communication with clients can take several minutes.
With a large database, startup time can be significantly longer.
Don't expect immediate server availability to all users after startup.

Detaching and reattaching servers from the hub is NOT recommended.
Do not move registration numbers between servers.

--------------------------------
COMPATIBILITY
--------------------------------
IF DOS Named Pipes is loaded into the memory of the Meeting Maker XP server,
users will not be able to see or connect to the server.

-------------------------------------
BACKING-UP AND RESTORING FILES
-------------------------------------
ON Technology recommends backing up your server data daily. To back up
Meeting Maker XP servers, make copies of specific directories
and folders and store them in another location. To ensure data integrity,
the server software cannot be running during backup. The Scheduled
Server Shutdown is recommended for such backups.

To backup a Windows server:
1. From the Program Manager, close the Meeting Maker XP Admin application.
2. Start File Manager and select the disk containing the Meeting Maker XP
    working directory.
3. Select the MMSERVER directory and copy it to a backup directory.
4. Exit File Manager.
5. Double-click the Meeting Maker XP Admin icon to restart the server.

To restore the server from a backup:
1. From the Program Manager, close the Meeting Maker XP Admin application.
2. Start File Manager and select the disk containing the Meeting Maker XP
    backup.
3. Select the MMSERVER directory and copy it to the disk containing the
    Meeting Maker XP software.
4. Exit File Manager.
5. Double-click the Meeting Maker XP Admin icon to restart the application.
