           BASIC SETUP AND CONFIGURATTION INSTRUCTIONS

 After you complete the product installation, NetWare Connect
 runs these automated procedures, so you can quickly and easily
 setup and configure your NetWare Connect server for basic
 operation. If you exit NetWare Connect after installation,
 these automated procedures run the first time you load
 NWCCON.

 After you complete these procedures, you can use the Setup NetWare
 Connect and Configure NetWare Connect menu options to change the
 defined settings or enter new settings. These instructions have 4
 sections:
    * SETUP AND CONFIGURATION
    * REMOTE CLIENT ACCESS
    * CONFIGURATION REPORT
    * NETWARE CONNECT ADMINISTRATION

SETUP AND CONFIGURATION
 When possible NetWare Connect automatically detects information and
 displays the settings for verification. Otherwise, NetWare Connect
 prompts you to enter the desired settings or uses default values.
 Complete the basic setup and configuration steps below or exit
 the program and perform them manually.

 1. Add additional licenses.
    If you are combining NetWare Connect licenses or NetWare Connect
    is already installed and you wish to add additional licenses,
    select YES and insert the diskette with the additional licenses.
    When this step is complete, re-insert the product diskette.

 2. Load AIO Drivers.
    NetWare Connect allows you to select from a list of possible serial
    adapters and the built-in communications port (COMX). When an
    adapter is selected, NetWare Connect automatically applies the
    default settings. Repeat this step for each AIO driver you wish to
    load.

 3. Update your AUTOEXEC.NCF file to load the AIO drivers.
    NetWare Connect displays your current AUTOEXEC.NCF file. Move the
    cursor to the desired location and press <Insert>. NetWare Connect
    adds the statements to load the specified drivers. Press <Esc> to
    save the changes and continue.

 4. Select NetWare Connect ports.
    (Only if the number of ports is greater than your port license)
    If the number of ports is greater than your port license, specify
    which ports are to be used by NetWare Connect. Otherwise, NetWare
    Connect will assign port licenses to ports in the order the ports
    are discovered.

 5. Specify modem types.
    NetWare Connect checks the ports to verify how many modems are
    attached and displays the results. Ensure all the desired modems are
    turned on. NetWare Connect attempts to identify the modem types of
    the discovered modems and set the default settings. If a modem is
    not recognized, you must specify the modem type. Repeat this step until
    all the desired modem types have been specified.

 6. Select services and set service settings.
    Select the desired services and specify the desired service settings.
    Note: NCS does not require load time configuration.

    * Point-to-Point Protocol Remote Node Service (PPPRNS) provides
      dial-in access for remote IPX and IP nodes.
    * NASI Connection Service (NCS) allows LAN workstations to dial-out to
      host computers and electronic bulletin boards, and allows PCs and
      Macintosh computers to dial-in to remotely-controlled dedicated
      workstations or application servers.
    * AppleTalk Remote Access Service (ARAS) allows remote AppleTalk nodes
      to dial-in to the LAN.

 Congratulations! You have completed the Automated Basic Setup and
 Configuration. By default, all ports are configured for bidirectional
 connnections; all users have access to all ports and services; there
 are no time limits for established connections; and for each port data
 rate and flow control are set to match the selected modem type, data bits
 setting is set to 8, parity is set to "None", and stop bits setting is
 set to 1.

REMOTE CLIENT ACCESS
 For remote client access, specify the remote client password in the
 Security option under the Configure NetWare Connect menu option. Also,
 install and configure the client software on the desired workstations.

 * PPPRNS Client Software
   From DOS, run SYS:\SYSTEM\REMOTE\INSTALL.EXE.
   From MS Windows, run SYS:\SYSTEM\REMOTE\SETUP.EXE.
   You can also install the PPPRNS client from DOS or MS Windows using the
   first three product diskettes.

 * NCS Client Software
   Copy the following files to the users' workstations or to a network
   directory the users have access to.
   For NASI:     NASI.EXE, NASI.MSG
   For INT14:    INT14.COM, INT14MGR.EXE, INT14MGR.HEP, TEXTUTIL.EXE,
                 TEXTUTIL.IDX, TEXTUTIL.MSG, CMPQ_RUN.OVL, IBM_RUN.OVL,
                 _RUN.OVL
   For NASIDIAG: NASIDIAG.EXE, NASIDIAG.HEP, NASIDIAG.MSG, TEXTUTIL.EXE,
                 TEXTUTIL.IDX, TEXTUTIL.MSG, CMPQ_RUN.OVL, IBM_RUN.OVL,
                 _RUN.OVL

   In addition, you need 3rd party communication applications that use NASI.

 * Win2NCS Redirector Client Software
   From MS Windows, use SYS:\SYSTEM\WIN2NCS\SETUP.EXE.

 * Mac2NCS Redirector
   On the NetWare Connect MAC Client diskette, use the Mac2NCS:Installer
   for the Mac2NCS redirector. Also, use the Set Remote Client Password
   program to set the NetWare Connect password for remote dial-in clients.

 * ARAS Client Software
   If you wish to use the ARAS service, obtain the Apple Remote Access 1.0
   or 2.0 program from Apple computer.

 You are now ready to have authorized remote users access LAN workstations
 and resources through the NetWare Connect server. LAN users can also
 dial-out to access remote hosts and electronic bulletin boards.

CONFIGURATION REPORT
 From the NetWare Connect menu, select Report under the Configure
 NetWare Connect menu option. This generates a configuration report so
 you can verify the specified settings, quickly identify configuration
 problems should they occur, and maintain server records.

NETWARE CONNECT ADMINISTRATION
 After you establish the basic operation, you may wish to perform more
 advanced setup and configuration procedures to:

 * Secure NetWare Connect access and use through port, time, password,
   service, and other restrictions.
 * Redefine port and service parameters.
 * Set additional port and service features, such as port groups, NCS
   general names, AppleTalk zone restrictions, and other features.
 * Provide SNMP support so NetWare Connect can be managed from any
   SNMP-based console.

 As you perform other procedures to customize and administer your
 NetWare Connect servers, you can access online help for each menu
 option and field by selecting the option or field and pressing
 <F1>.
