Hummingbird TCP/IP and NFS Components

1. Due to limitations in the Windows environment, you must specify a
local drive for the installation of the Hummingbird TCP/IP and NFS
components. As well, Universal Naming Convention (UNC) is not
    supported.

2. When using Windows for Workgroups, do not enable File Manager Long
Filenames in the NFS Network Access Application, Net Setup dialog box.

3. If your host is already running BWNFSD, you must not install HCLNFSD
    on that host.

4. If you are not connected to a Domain Name Server and you wish to
use symbolic addresses, you will have to create a HOSTS file. You
can create a HOSTS file in your WINDOWS directory by using a text
editor such as notepad. The HOSTS file associates IP addresses with
names. Each line in the HOSTS file supplies an IP address followed
by one or more names to be associated with the address. e.g.

eXceed/Xpress

This version of eXceed/Xpress contains new functionality which is
dependent on the version of your Xpress/Host software. eXceed/Xpress
will work with older versions of Xpress/Host. The new Xpress/Host
functionality is available as of protocol version 1.5. If you are
running an older version of Xpress/Host, contact Hummingbird
Communications to determine the availability of protocol version 1.5
software for your host.

To determine the version of your Xpress/Host software, you can specify
the following command on your host:

	sxprocess -ver

Alternatively, you can also examine the eXceed/Xpress application
About Box after running sxprocess.

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR AIX AND NETVIEW FOR AIX USERS

1. Installing Fonts for AIX

Make sure that you install the "Andrew" font set during Setup. This font
set works best for AIX fonts.

2. Specifying the Display Environment Variable

When using AIX in the korn shell, you can export the DISPLAY with the
    following command:

	export DISPLAY=hostname:0

    or

	export DISPLAY=nn.nn.nn.nn:0

where nn.nn.nn.nn is the IP address of the X server PC.

This combines the 'DISPLAY=var" and ;'export DISPLAY' commands. You can
also use the "-display" command line option to specify the display
    variable.

3. Modifying the AIX and Netview X Resource Default Files

This section provides an overview of how to access and modify the
default resource files. For more detailed instructions refer to the user
documentation for each application or module.

    (a) If you need to modify fonts and other X resources on the AIX host,
 	 edit the following files:

	    $HOME/.Xdefaults
	    $HOME/.mwmrc

Other dot-prefixed resource files may also appear in your $HOME
directory. They can also be modified, if necessary.

     (b) The following directories and files contain system default resource
parameters. You will only be able to modify these if your are a
"root" user. Generally, you will not need to modify these files.
In some cases, these files can be copied to your $HOME directory and
modified there to override system defaults. In other cases, resource
configurations can be added to $HOME/.Xdefaults to similarly override
	 system defaults.

	    /usr/OV/app-defaults/*

Resource files in /usr/OV/app-defaults apply to other Netview modules
and any third party applications installed. See your user
	 documentation for details.

	    /usr/lib/X11/app-defaults/*

Files in this directory are the master default files for your system.

4. Monitor Resolution

It is recommended that the microcomputer used to display Netview screens
be able to display 256 colors. Monochrome monitors will not provide a
satisfactory result, nor, in all probability, will a standard 16 color
    VGA display.

Mouse erratic problem in Windows 3.1 386 Enhanced Mode:
-------------------------------------------------------

Windows 3.1 has a problem in 386 enhanced mode where the mouse suddenly
begins to behave erratically under certain circumstances on some systems.
Microsoft states the problem can be solved on a case by case basis and is
not directly related to Windows or Microsoft's mouse drivers, but is the
result of external factors.

To solve the problem if it occurs using a Logitech Series 9 mouse,
Microsoft suggests loading Logitech's DOS based mouse driver in either
your AUTOEXEC.BAT or CONFIG.SYS.

To solve the problem if it occurs on IBM PS/2s, Microsoft suggests using
the /m:2 or /m:ps2 parameter on your HIMEM.SYS command line in your
CONFIG.SYS. If this does not solve the problem, try using a serial port
mouse instead of the bus mouse port or obtain an add-in bus mouse board and
attach the mouse to the add-in board's port instead of the motherboard mouse
port or upgrade the keyboard ROM BIOS in your PS/2.
