  THIRD QUARTER RELEASE INSTALLATION NOTES

  1.  Please view 403TCH.WRI, 403TCH.DOC, 403TCH.NFO, for information about 
      specific fixes and files which are being installed.  These files list
      issues as Delta numbers.  PTOD.PSR and DTOP.PSR are tables of
      conversions between Delta numbers and PTrack numbers.  
      
      403TCH.WRI is installed when you install the Powersoft DLLS.  The other
      files listed above are located on the root of the CD, or compressed on
      electronic media, and are not installed.  

  2.  For information about new features and enhancements, see PB4002.WRI for 
      PowerBuilder and IM4002.WRI for InfoMaker.  These files are in the root 
      directory of the CD-ROM and in the Powersoft Online Books.

  3.  Fixes are available for PowerBuilder Version 3.0x and Version 4.0.xx 
      If you have a version that is upgradable, Setup will apply the fixes.  
      If not, you can reinstall your original version and run Setup again.

  4.  These fixes are cumulative, so to upgrade from 4.0 to 4.0.03, or from 
      3.0a to 3.0d you do NOT need to install the 4.0.01 or 3.0b & 3.0c 
      fixes first.  However, you CANNOT upgrade from 3.0x to 4.0.03 with this 
      Maintenance Release.  Please contact your local representative or call 
      (800)395-3525.

  5.  Currently our installation supports only the 8.3 naming convention for 
      directories and filenames.

  6.  The ORCA Interface (Enterprise and Team/ODBC fixes) is listed as a Source 
      Control Interface.  The DLL, LIB and H files will only get installed if
      selected.




  GENERAL INSTALLATION NOTES

  1.  If Microsoft Windows is installed in a write-protected network directory,
      a person with write privileges to the Windows directory should install 
      this product.  If system files are installed in an alternate 
      directory, then the installation has to be completed manually.

  2.  Be sure that no other Powersoft products or the Watcom SQL engine are 
      running.

  3.  To install the Fixes from the CD-ROM:
      Run SETUP.EXE from the ROOT DIRECTORY of the CD-ROM and select one 
      of the products from the list.

  4.  To install the fixes from diskettes or downloaded files:
      After downloading files for the product you want, pkunzip each file INTO
      ITS OWN DIRECTORY. You can name the directories DISK1, DISK2, and so on.

      Run SETUP.EXE from Disk 1.

  5.  After selecting one of the Product Fixes and choosing Install, 
      the Setup program will prompt you for information, a diskette, or a
	  path to a diskette image.

      During installation you may not be prompted for every diskette in the
      set.  The diskettes the Setup Program requests depend on the options you
      select.

  6.  If you installed the fixes into the directory overlaying the original 
      DLLs, the product will be run with the new fixes the next time you run 
      the product.  Install PVERS to inspect DLL version information.

      The Deployment Kits contain the Watcom SQL Desktop Runtime System. 

      NOTE:  If you install the Watcom SQL Desktop Runtime System with 
      the deployment kit, you MUST apply the WSQL40b patches (which are
      included with these fixes) to all other Watcom SQL 4.0x Engines
      on your system.  Otherwise you may get a DLL mismatch error.	  

      Please read FaxLine #4366 for more information on the following error: 
      'WSQL Language DLL Version Mismatch'.
    

  NOTE FOR IBM DB2/2 USERS.
	  
      If you are updating the IBM DB2/2 database interface for PowerBuilder for
      Windows or InfoMaker, you need to rebind the package as described in the
      "Binding PowerBuilder or InfoMaker to your databases" in Chapter 3 of the
      Connecting to Your Database book.

      The *.bnd and *.cmd files can be found on 403W4 of this maintenance 
      release. 


  VIEWING POWERSOFT ONLINE BOOKS FROM THE CD

      To view the Online Books without installing them, you can run the program 
      BVIEWS.EXE on the CD and open the Infobase for your PowerBuilder product.

      For PowerBuilder Enterprise, use the following command:
	
	       cd-drive:\DOC\ENT\BVIEWS.EXE cd-drive:\DOC\ENT\MAINMENU.NFO

      For PowerBuilder Desktop, use the following command:
	
	       cd-drive:\DOC\DESK\BVIEWS.EXE cd-drive:\DOC\DESK\MAINMENU.NFO

      2. Check the BBS or CompuServe to make sure you have the latest
	  product fixes.

      3. Check the PowerBuilder Infobase CD-ROM and FaxLine for information
      that may solve or help isolate the problem, or to determine if you have
      encountered a known bug.

      4. If you need further assistance, call Technical Support.

      When you call Technical Support, please have the following information 
      at hand:

      1. Registration card number or support ID

      2. The exact text of the error message

      3. The product and version number you are using (e.g. PowerBuilder 3.0,
	  (InfoMaker)

      4. Your DBMS including the version number

      5. Your network protocol

      6. Your local system, including:
	  *  Specific PC components
	  *  RAM
	  *  Hard disk space, both available and total
	  *  Virtual memory
	  *  Add-ons
	  *  Peripherals

      ISOLATE THE PROBLEM....

      1. Determine the steps required to reproduce the problem consistently.

      2. Create a new library and copy the application (and all its objects) 
      into the new library.

      3. Rework the library to include only the problem windows. Change the
	  script to open the windows from the application. Remove all variables
	  and unnecessary external functions.

      4. Reproduce the problem with this small library.

      5. Document in a text file the steps needed to reproduce the problem.

      6. Be prepared to create a zip file of the small library, and the text
      file and upload that to the Powersoft BBS.
