MANUAL DECOMPRESSION OF RSA SECURE and INSTRUCTIONS FOR
CREATING INSTALLATION DISKS:

The following instructions should be used if you do NOT
plan to install RSA Secure on your C: drive, or you do NOT
plan to create your installation disks on your A: drive,
both of which are the defaults. If you DO plan to follow
the defaults, we suggest that you use the LOADRSA.BAT
batch file, which will take care of the following steps
for you.

1. You should print and read one of the LICENSE files and
agree to the conditions in it before proceeding.

  - IMPORTANT: If you make copies of this software for
others, you must provide them with the RSA_EVAL.EXE file
intact, not with any subset of the decompressed files.

  - EXPORT RESTRICTIONS: This version of RSA Secure has
been tailored to meet United States regulations for the
export of cryptographic software. This means that the
level of encryption has been reduced from 80-bit RC4 and
1024-bit RSA keys to 40-bit RC4 and 512-bit RSA keys. The
stronger encryption is available only in the commercial
version that is sold in the USA and Canada. The
commercial version that is sold for use outside of the USA
and Canada uses 40-bit RC4 and 512-bit RSA keys, as this
product does. Both commercial versions come with a
printed User Guide, a printed Quick Reference Guide, and
full product support.

  - DISK SPACE WARNING! The one megabyte file that you
downloaded has expanded to over TWO megabytes. The rest
of the expansion process will add ANOTHER two megabytes of
files for the disk images, placing them on your drive C:.
You can check to be certain that you have that much space
on drive C: by typing the command "CHKDSK C: <Enter>"
(without the quotes) at the DOS prompt. The fifth line of
statistics will show the number of bytes that are
"available on disk." You want that number to be at least
2,000,000 for this process to work. If the number is
smaller than that, we suggest that you copy the
RSA_EVAL.EXE file onto a high-density floppy disk and
delete it from your hard disk. Check again, and continue
to copy, move, or delete files until you have sufficient
space to continue.

2. ALL INSTALLATIONS should begin by creating five
formatted high-density floppy disks, labeled as shown
below. Prepare them now. Labels: "Emergency Access
Manager"; "User Setup Disk"; "User Setup Customized Disk";
"Emergency Backup Disk"; and "User Backup Disk" (NOTE: By
"label" we mean the physical label attached to the
disk.)

3. Create a directory named RSA in the root of one of your
drives. For example, if you install on D: drive, type the
following commands at the DOS prompt:
 - D: <Enter>
 - cd \ <Enter>
 - md rsa <Enter>

4. Move or copy the RSA_EVL2.EXE file to the D:\RSA
directory.

5. Expand the RSA_EVL2.EXE file, recreating
subdirectories by executing the command with the "-d"
switch.

 - From Windows Program Manager, choose File, Run, and
then type in the dialog box (without the quotes)
"D:\rsa\rsa_evl2.exe -d" and choose OK.

or:

 - From DOS, move to the directory D:\RSA and then type
(again, without the quotes) "rsa_evl2.exe -d" and press
<Enter>.

6. Change to the D:\RSA directory. You have decompressed
two disk image directories which are subdirectories of the
RSA directory (EMRIMAGE\DISK1 and USRIMAGE\DISK1) and six
files: MANINSTL.TXT (this file), QUICKREF.TXT and
QUICKREF.WRI (The Quick Reference Sheet for the actual
installation of RSA Secure, in both text and Windows Write
format), LICENSE.TXT and LICENSE.WRI (the License
Agreement for RSA Secure, in both text and Windows Write
format), and READMEVL.TXT (the "readme" file that appears
on the disks themselves).

7. Copy the files in the RSA\EMRIMAGE\DISK1 directory to
the formatted floppy disk that you labeled "Emergency
Access Manager".

8. Copy the files in the RSA\USRIMAGE\DISK1 directory to
two of your formatted floppy disks, the ones that are
labeled "User Setup Disk" and "User Setup Customized
Disk." If you want to take advantage of Emergency Access,
you MUST have the User Setup files on a floppy disk, and
you will use the "customized" disk for that purpose.

9. Print a copy of the READMEVL.TXT file and read it for
any last-minute changes.

10. Print a copy of the Quick Reference Sheet, and follow
the instructions found on it.

11. Once you have completed your installation, you may
delete the EMRIMAGE\DISK1 and USRIMAGE\DISK1 directories,
as well as the RSA_EVAL.EXE and RSA_EVL2.EXE files.
