           >>>>> Cyber Angel's Totally Biased Warez Report <<<<<
                           Issue # 8 - August 1995

DISCLAIMER: As the name clearly states, this report is Totally Biased.
While I have done my best to be fair to all groups/games
reviewed, I can just see many people scream out the word
"bias" and can also see many rag messages following this
report. Therefore, I decided to go with the flow and
declare this report TOTALLY BIASED. Meaning, whatever
is written below is my personal opinion. If you don't
like it - don't read it, if you read it - don't bitch.

RULES: Final/Retail version of every English playable game on
diskettes (no CD rips!) will be reviewed. First part of
the review will be NON biased, as it contains only the
MEGGAGE of the releases which cannot be argued over.
However, this first part will also be often INACCURATE,
as a 500k game may be much better than many 10mb ones.
Now, the second part can be argued to be much more biased,
thats where I rate the games on a 1 to 10 scale. My
rating will be based on multitude of factors - mainly the
quality of the game, demand (how many people play it),
quality of crack if one is needed, etc. Add-ons, scenery
disks, updates etc. will only receive HALF the points.
Games that are in foreign language but fully English playable
(like Chinese arcade games), US versions, newer versions of
previously released games (Doom 1.8, etc) will also receive
a much lower rating. If two or more groups were to merge,
their scores would be added together. Since this will be the
most "biased" part of my report I would once again like to
state that I am only expressing my opinion and anyone unhappy
with the scores is welcome to release a Report of their own.

And now for the totally biased part:

Before I begin with my comments regarding the events/releases of this month,
I would like to comment on something else... I have called this report
"biased" so that those of you who THINK it is would not bother me with their
attitude. However, I do try my very best to be honest in this report, try to
judge all groups equally, whether I like them or not. That includes my own
group's ratings. I also try to be fair in my commentary, so that my personal
diffirences with some of the people in the scene would not affect their groups'
rating. Because of all that I was doubly outraged at The Renegade Chemists'
Ware Report from last month. Although I am still greateful TRC is willing to
invest his time and offer his opinion on the games scene backed by a 10 year
experience, I must frown on the way he is using the Ware Report as his tool in
the scene politics as well as a promotional publication for Eclipse. I have
just re-read his report. The "commentary" part fills up just under 7 screens
of text. Almost FIVE of them are dedicated to preaching against Razor, as well
as convincing the reader that Eclipse did indeed won in the spreading war over
the release of Simon The Sorcerer 2. FIVE pages - thats over 70% of the whole
commentary! Moreover, TRC claims that ECLIPSE have indeed won the last month!
Have I missed something here? Let us see. They released one card game for
windows (yawn), even though from a major company, one TEXT-BASED sports
manager, which TRC himself admitted to be total shit, and, finally, STS2. Now
even if we do agree that Eclipse won on that release and should be awarded full
credit for it - does that one quality game make them a winner for a month?
Unlikely. Moreover, TRC seems to be changing the rating rules he himself setup
for his report? When TRC started publishing it in October 1994, his policy
was to award credit to both groups wherever there was a slightest dispute.
Those who do not want to rely on my memory, can call my BBS, download the
earlier issues of his report and see that for themselves. Why a sudden change?
Naturally, I was not happy about his uncalled-for comments towards Tyranny
either. Calling our releases "shit" after releasing that Ascii game is
nothing but hypocritical. Again, I must say that I do look forward to the
new TRC's Ware Report issues, no matter how biased... But I do wish Chemist
would try and introduce a bit less actual bias into his report.

Okay, on with the show:

The month was not great, but not that bad either. The first week was simply
a blast with a load of great releases, but things have slowed down considerably
since than. Dungeon Master 2 floppy makes the wait worth it though, finally
a cool RPG out. There is so few things to say about this month, it isnt even
funny, I guess I am better off moving right onto the group reviews.

*Eclipse* One small Win95 game this month. (Incidentally, it was released
just about one month after TRC swore that Eclipse will not support Win95
releases. (???) Well, not too much action here, maybe next month?

*Fairlight* After over a year of silence, Fairlight has stunned everybody with
their amazing comeback. When least expected, they simply put out one of the
very best games this year - I would say that this was a kick-ass way for them
to make an entrace. Re-entrace rather, as Fairlight is the oldest PC games
group alive today. Just a few years ago they have released Dungeon Master, and
now they have returned to claim the sequel. Many people have been wondering
whether FLT is back to stay, or that was just a one-time release from these
veterans. Well, according to one of their leaders, Fairlight is officially
back, and will work hard on more PC/Amiga releases in the future. Good luck!

*Hoodlum* While giving quite mediocre performance with the CD releases this
whole month, HLM managed to pull one impressive title at the very end. Earlier
in the month, they had one more floppy release - Crystal Caliburn for Win95.
However, not only it was not cracked, it was also packaged pre-installed, which
is very unprofessional, hence I choose to award no credit for it.

*Razor 1911* Razor started off with the bang, releasing two huge games within
the 24 hour period, but things seem to have slowed down considerably for them
since than. Two more smaller games were released at the end of the month,
which has helped them insure the #2 spot for the month, but it does not look
like the Blade tried very hard this month.

*TDU-Jam* Firstly, great job from these guys on the CD rips. No wonder, as
according to the TDU-Jam leader, CD rips are more imoportant to them right
now than diskette titles. According to him, that was the main reason GNS was
eliminated, and TDU took over releasing their diskette titles. It seems that
even though TDU pays more attention to the CD releases, they did quite well
for themselves on the diskette titles this month as well, coming in 3rd.

*Tyranny* It seems like TRN was the only group that truly had a good month.
Having released five quality games (only one of them, Antagony, could be
considered semi-budget), Tyranny has went smoothly through the month, not
meeting any close competition. I do hope we will do the same in September :)

*The Dream Team* You guys are lamer than hell, and you should just drop
shaming the TDT name with your lame releases. Every single thing you released
this month is either a dupe, re-package or a compilation of some 5 year old
games, not even mentioning a CD-rip DEMO you released at the end of the month.
You should just merge with SCANDAL - another dupe/fake releasing group, and
let the fine TDT label rest in peace.

Well, the holiday season is starting, and hopefully things will be speeding
up from this point on. We should hopefully see some more competition, and
more, better releases in the next few month. Ciao for now.
