There is included on the disk a file called brangle.3dw. This file
is a scene that includes some 3d polygons, a sun and a camera. It is set-up
so that all you can experiment with break angle, shading and lighting.
This scene is similar to the one in 3D Artist Magazine issue #8, "Getting A
Good Break (Angle)."
In the Configure/Render Dialog box is a gobal variable called,
Break Angle. Break Angle is to control the smoothing of objects in your
rendering. By leaving the Break Angle at 73 degrees and selecting Gourand
shading and rendering the scene, you will see that the objects with normals
less the 73 degrees are smoothed. A normal is a vector perpendicular to
the face of an object.
By increasing or decreasing you can control how much an object has
smoothed edges. If you set the break angle to 89 degrees you should see that
every edge but right angles will be smoothed.
Things to experiment with this scene are the break angle, the lighting
(try a spot light) and the different shading choices. Further information is
in your manual.
