CONVERTING DATA FROM MONEYCOUNTS DOS

MoneyCounts 9.0 for Windows will import data from
MoneyCounts DOS, versions 5.0-6.5, 7.0a-g, 7.5, and 8.0.
To import data from one of these programs into a new
MoneyCounts 9.0 for Windows data set, proceed as
follows:

1. Select New from the File menu.
2. When the Startup Options dialog appears, select the
option to create a new set of books and import
MoneyCounts for DOS data. Click OK.
3. An Import MoneyCounts for DOS Data dialog appears.
   Complete the following information:
   (a) the location of the directory containing your
   DOS version data files.
   (b) the New Data Set Name you want to use for the
data set in MoneyCounts for Windows.
   (c) the destination directory where you want to put
the new MoneyCounts for Windows data set.
4. Complete the fields and click OK. MoneyCounts will
display a progress dialog as your DOS data is
imported into MoneyCounts for Windows. A notice
will appear when the import is complete.

types assigned to your accounts were converted correctly.

CONVERTING DATA FROM AN EARLIER VERSION OF
MONEYCOUNTS FOR WINDOWS

If you have installed MoneyCounts 9.0 for Windows to
the same directory where an earlier version of
MoneyCounts for Windows exists, when you start
MoneyCounts 9.0, the program will try to open the last
data set you used. To convert your data,

1. In the Convert Data Set dialog, enter a new data set
name and accept the default location or enter one of
   your own, and click OK.
2. MoneyCounts will display a progress dialog as it
converts your data. A notice will appear when the
   data has been successfully converted.

If you have other data sets you need to convert,

1. Select Open from the File menu. The Open Data Set
   dialog opens.
2. Select the data set you want to open and convert,
   and click OK.
3. In the Convert Data Set dialog, enter a new data set
name and accept the default location or enter one
of your own, and click OK.
4. MoneyCounts will display a progress dialog as it
converts your data. A notice will appear when the

   dialog opens.
2. Click the Browse button to open the Select Data
   Directory dialog.
3. Use the Drives and Directories boxes to locate your
data, then select it and click OK.
4. The Open Data Set dialog returns where your data set
appears as one of the options. Select it and click OK.
5. In the Convert Data Set dialog, enter a new data set
name and accept the default location or enter one of
   your own, and click OK.
6. MoneyCounts will display a progress dialog as it
converts your data. A notice will appear when the
   data has been successfully converted.

Alternatively, you could copy the MCWIN.INI file from
the location where your earlier version of MoneyCounts
for Windows resides to the location where MoneyCounts
9.0 for Windows resides. Then proceed as though you
have installed MoneyCounts 9.0 for Windows to the same
location, as described above.

CONVERTING DATA FROM AN EARLIER VERSION OF
MONEYCOUNTS FOR WINDOWS -- ADDRESS BOOK FILES

If you are converting from MoneyCounts versions
1.0 or 8.0, the Address Book file (mcwin.pab) in
your data set will automatically convert to a new
mcwin.ab2 file when you convert the data set.
However, if you have other .pab files, you will need
to convert them to .ab2 files individually
through the Address Book program itself.

CONVERTING DATA FROM AN EARLIER VERSION OF
MONEYCOUNTS FOR WINDOWS -- FUND PROOF REPORT

If you are converting a not-for-profit data set
from MoneyCounts for Windows versions 1.0 or 8.0,
the Fund Proof Report will not be available in your
new MoneyCounts version 9.0 data set until the data
set has been closed and reopened or the program has
been exited and reopened.

TAX TYPES

MoneyCounts 9.0 for Windows provides tax types that allow
you to generate a TXF (Tax eXchange Format) file that can
be read by many tax preparation programs, including
Parsons Technology's Personal Tax Edge. Version 9.0
updates the list of available tax types according to the
TXF standard.

A few tax types are no longer valid according to the TXF
specifications (although they will still be selectable
within MoneyCounts 9.0 for Windows). They are:

Schedule C Cost of goods sold
   Schedule D ST gain/loss - other
   Schedule D LT gain/loss - other

We advise that for best results you not use these tax
types; if you have previously assigned any of these tax
types to your accounts we advise that you change them.

When converting data from MoneyCounts DOS to MoneyCounts
9.0 for Windows, you will need to verify that the tax
types assigned to your accounts were converted correctly.
