1. ComByte, Inc. Telephone Numbers
=======================================

Product Information / FAX Back..(800) 990-BYTE
Technical Support...............(970) 229-0040
BBS (14.4Kbps 8/N/1)............(970) 282-2599
Please note: Not all phone systems recognize 970 as an area code.
If you are having problems reaching ComByte using the 970 area
code, please inform your local telephone company of the problem.
You can still use 303 in place of 970 until October 1, 1995.

2. System Requirements
======================

2.1. Minimum Free Conventional Memory
=====================================
At least 512 KBytes of available conventional memory is required
to run Doubleplay for Windows. If you receive error 501, you do
not have enough free conventional memory.

2.2. Install to Local DOS Volume
================================
This software is designed to be installed on a local DOS disk
only. Installation to a network volume is NOT supported.
Additionally, MS Windows must be installed on the local hard disk,
not on a network volume.

3. General Notes
================

3.1. Review Log File
====================
ComByte Doubleplay provides a log file which is updated after
every backup and restore operation. It is highly recommended that
you review your ComByte Doubleplay log file on a regular basis. To
view the log file select View Log from the ComByte Doubleplay
Utilities menu.

3.2. Using SHARE.EXE with Restore and open files
================================================
If you have SHARE loaded and you perform a restore of files that
are open and in use, these files will be skipped. If you do not
have SHARE loaded, open files that are in use will NOT be skipped,
but rather will be restored. This may cause your Windows
environment to become unstable. We recommend that you exit Windows
and re-boot after performing such a Restore.

3.3. Accelerator Board Configurations
=====================================
The Combyte DPX-1 Accelerator card defaults to the Primary Floppy
Controller address of 3f0. Any other floppy controller used in
your system must be disabled or removed, allowing the Combyte
accelerator card to control your A: and B: floppy drives.

3.4. Chktape Utility
====================
This utility is a limited recovery utility. It was not distributed
on the second install diskette as referred to in the help section.
If you need tape recovery it is recommended that you send the tape
to Combyte for recovery. If that is not possible, the chktape utility
can be sent to you, in which case you assume all liabilities for
using the utility to recover any data.

3.5. Rescue Notes
=================
If you are rescuing a Doublespace compressed drive, you will need
the corresponding DBLSPACE.BIN file and DBLSPACE.SYS file on your
Rescue Diskette. In addition, you will need to manually edit the
CONFIG.SYS on the Rescue Diskette as follows:

;DEVICE=DBLSPACE.SYS /MOVE
should be changed to
DEVICE=DBLSPACE.SYS /MOVE

If you have Drivespace, replace references to DBLSPACE with DRVSPACE.

4. Compatibility
================

4.1. Device Drivers
===================
It may be necessary to remove existing device drivers from your
Windows SYSTEM.INI file. To remove them, use an ASCII editor, such
as NOTEPAD, and delete the appropriate DEVICE= statement from your
SYSTEM.INI file located in your WINDOWS directory. Some of the
common program device drivers are listed below:

Product					Device Driver
-----------------------------------------------------
Central Point Backup....................CPBVXD.386
Norton, Conner and Arcada Backup........VFINTD.386
Colorado Backup for DOS.................CMSDTAPE.386
Colorado Backup for Windows.............CMSWTAPE.386
FastBack................................FASTBACK.386
Novastor................................NOVASTOR.386
Irwin...................................IRW286.DRV
Unidentified............................VIRWT.386
Unidentified............................VITD.386

4.2. Interchange
================
ComByte Doubleplay adheres to the QIC-80 tape format
specification. This ensures compatibility with other vendor's tape
backup products that also adhere to the QIC-80 specification.
However, if you experience difficulties restoring data from other
vendor's tapes, use the original tape software.

ComByte Doubleplay does not require you to pre-format your tapes.
Instead, this software uses Format-on-Demand (FOD) to format only
the amount of tape necessary to hold the contents of your backup.

4.3. Norton Desktop for Windows, Version 2.0
============================================
Do not attempt to install or use ComByte Doubleplay for Windows
with Norton Desktop for Windows, Version 2.0. Upgrade to Norton
Desktop for Windows, Version 3.0 or remove Norton Desktop as
your Windows' shell.

Norton Desktop for Windows includes an automatic uninstall
program which guides you through uninstalling some or all of
the Norton Desktop components. You can start the uninstall
process by double-clicking on "Norton Desktop Uninstall" in
the "Norton Desktop Applications" group.

4.4. Microsoft Windows NT
=========================
ComByte Doubleplay for Windows software is not supported and will
not run under Microsoft Windows NT.

4.5. Microsoft Windows 95
=========================
ComByte Doubleplay for Windows software will run under Microsoft
Windows 95 but is not supported in this configuration. Long
filenames will not be backed up under Windows 95 using Doubleplay
for Windows.

It is not recommended that you run SFLOPPY.EXE while running
Windows 95 as this will force the File System and Virtual Memory
in to Compatibility Mode, thus reducing overall system performance.
ComByte hopes to have a native Windows 95 Superfloppy driver
within 90 days of the official US release of Windows 95.

5. Notes about Local Area Networks (LANs)
=========================================

5.1. Artisoft LANtastic
=======================
The network directories \LANTASTI and \LANTASTI.NET are excluded
from the backup, since they maintain open files. If you need to
restore a LANtastic server, you will need to reinstall your
LANtastic Network Operating System from their original diskettes.

5.2. Novell NetWare
===================
Novell NetWare versions 2.15, 2.2, 3.11, and 3.12 are supported,
including NetWare 386 Bindery files, NetWare 286 compatible
Directory Rights, NetWare 286 compatible Directory and File
Attributes, and the Last Accessed Date. For best results, always
use the most recent versions of IPX and NETx. You must use at
least IPX v3.10 and NETx v3.26.
