Norton AntiVirus for Windows 95
Expanded Beta Test 1
June 2, 1995

Thank you for testing our software! Without your help we would not be able to produce the high quality products that we strive for.

Overview and System Requirements of Norton AntiVirus for Windows 95
NAV for Windows 95 (codename: Luigi) is the newest member of Symantec's Norton AntiVirus family of products. Features include a true, 32-bit multitasking virus scanner, "Automatic Protection" at the VxD level of the Windows 95 operating system, support for Long File Names, and much more.
Luigi is compatible with the Preview Release of Windows 95 (also referred to as M8 or as Build 347) or greater builds (currently Build 474).
Please remember that this is pre-release, beta quality software and is provided as is. Some functionality may not work properly, and minor defects should be expected. As with any pre-release software, we recommend you perform a full backup of any affected system prior to installing this software.

YOU ARE OUR MOST VALUED TESTING RESOURCE!
The purpose for sending out a pre-release version of a product to an Expanded Beta test such as this is so that our beta testers may find what we have missed in our rigorous testing in-house. Currently, there are no known major, "system-crashing" defects in this expanded beta release. It is our genuine hope that you encounter no defects while testing this pre-release version. However, if you do, we wish to thank you in advance. It is this joint assistance between in-house and external site testing that make a software product as defect-free as possible.

Important
Please remember that details of this product, including feature content and the current state of the product are Strictly Confidential as defined by the terms of the Non-Disclosure Agreement. The only thing that has been made public by Symantec is that we are developing an anti-virus product for the Windows 95 operating system. If you see any reference made to the Norton AntiVirus Beta in any public arena which you feel could violate the terms of the Non-Disclosure Agreement please bring it to our attention. Thank you!

How To Test
Read the entire test plan before proceeding with any tests. The scripts included in this test plan are self-explanatory. Simply follow the instructions and record your results. Many of the questions can be answered by choosing from the answers provided. Also, feel free at any point to add any comments or suggestions that you feel are appropriate to help us develop the highest quality product you are looking for.

Known Problems
There are two major known problems with M8 that the latest Windows 95 version (Build 474) has fixed. These are:
There was a major memory leak which caused the system to slow-down. With NAV's AutoProtect loaded, this slow-down was aggravated even more.
At random intervals, NAV's AutoProtect would lock-up while displaying an alert message.
If you are not using Build 474 (or later), you may have to Restart your system once you notice this slow-down occurring.

For a complete list of the defects we currently know about, please refer to the READ.ME file which came with this expanded beta test release.

Error Reporting
An Error Report form is included at the end of this test script to record any defects you may encounter during the course of your testing. Please feel free to copy this blank form in the event of multiple errors.
It is critical to note that it is extremely important that we receive as much information concerning the defects you encounter during testing as possible. With this information, we will attempt to reproduce your defect in-house. Thank you again for your assistance!
