PIXAR TYPESTRY 2.0 WINDOWS
--------------------------

Pixar Typestry 2.0 for Windows is exciting software that turns your
Postscript or Truetype fonts, and your Adobe Illustrator files, into
three-dimensional images. You can also create Video for Windows
animations.

INSTALLING PIXAR TYPESTRY 2.0
-----------------------------

This version of Typestry 2.0 is exactly the same as the disk version,
except that the installation medium is this CD. You must install it
onto your hard drive to use it, as Typestry was not designed to run
directly from the CD.

Also, this version of Typestry was designed to run on Windows 3.1 (or
later) and on Windows NT. Although it may run properly on Windows 95,
it was not designed or tested in this environment, so operation of
Typestry 2.0 Windows under Windows 95 is not supported.

Typestry 2.0 comes with three components:
* Win32s 1.2  (Win32S12 directory)
* Typestry 2  (T2_APP directory)
* Video for Windows 1.1  (AVI11 directory)

1. INSTALL WIN32S.

If you are installing this product on Windows NT, you do not need to install
Win32S. Win32S is only for Windows customers. Proceed to step #2.

If you are installing on Windows 3.1 (or later) you must installed Win32S. We
have provided version 1.2. If you already have Win32s, and it's version 1.2,
you're already up to date and you can skip the Win32s installation. If you don't
know, when you install Typestry it will check, and tell you if you need to
install the new version.

To install, select Run from the Program Manager, and Browse the CD for the
SETUP.EXE file in the TYPESTRY\WIN32S12\DISK1 directory, and then follow the
instructions on the screen.

2. INSTALL TYPESTRY 2.

To install Typestry, select Run from the Program Manager, and Browse the CD
for the PIXSETUP.EXE file in the TYPESTRY\T2_APP directory, and then follow
the instructions on the screen.

The first time that you run Typestry, it will ask you for a serial
number. This number is located on your registration card, identified
as 'Typ Windows 2.0 SN'. You will only be asked for this number the
first time you run the program, because Typestry saves it away.

A Note to users of Typestry 1.1C Only
-------------------------------------
If you're using Typestry 1.1c or later and you need to use project files that
have shiny objects in them you'll need to be aware of a change in the 2.0 Looks.
By default, the installation does not install any Looks, so you don't need to
worry about the change until you're ready, when you can go back and install
just the new Looks.

Here's the deal. Old Looks use a Simulated Environment to help shiny Looks
look a little more realistic. In Typestry 2, this mechanism is turned off. But
a new mechanism exists to solve the same problem - the Environment, or
"E" light. This is a light that is like a big sphere enclosing your scene.
You don't see it when you make a picture, but if there are any shiny objects
in the scene they'll reflect whatever's on the sphere. This sphere can have
clouds on it, or mountains, or blobs, or any image you may wish to use.
Turning up the E light turns up the presence of this environment, so it
increases the strength of the reflections on objects as well.
If you'd like to recreate the effect of the old Looks in Typestry 2, just turn
the E light all the way up, and have it use the "blobby" Look, available from
the Browser in the t2looks\environs\starter directory.

We encourage you to switch over to the new Looks as soon as it's convenient,
so you can take full advantage of Typestry 2's lighting features.

A Note to users of Typestry 1.1 Only
-------------------------------------
If you're using Typestry 1.1, the new installation will create a whole new
directory with the new Looks. This means you'll have two directories with
Looks. Also, when you read a 1.1 project file into Typestry 2 some of your
old Looks may not be found. You'll have to reassign new Looks in this case.
You should avoid using the old Looks in new project files, and you should get
rid of the old Looks as soon as it's convenient.

3. INSTALL VIDEO FOR WINDOWS

We have provided Video for Windows 1.1 to allow for the creation and playback
AVI movies. If you wish to install it, select Run from the Program Manager, and
Browse the CD for the SETUP.EXE file in the TYPESTRY\AVI11\DISK1 directory, and
then follow the instructions on the screen.
