Connecting through network modems
=================================

LEXIS COUNSEL CONNECT for Windows 3.02 includes support for a variety of network modems. Following is additional information regarding several types of network modem schemes that does not appear in the manual.

Information for Telebit ACS using PNASI and Netware Connect communication servers:

Netware Connect

If you are connecting through a Netware Connect server, you must enter a username in the "Uname" field and a password, if one is used, in the "Password" field when setting up your connection profile.

Further, if you do not plan to use a specific port on your Netware Connect server, you may need to use the Netware Connect wildcard ("?" is the Netware wildcard) to fill the "SName" field (a total of fourteen question marks).

Telebit ACS

To connect using a Telebit communications server loading the PNASI driver, you need to load the program PNASI.EXE before going into MS Windows. Select the PNASI option when setting up your configuration profile.

You must specify the baud rate of the modems you will be using.

It is recommended that you dial out using a general pool on your Telebit server. If you are using a pool on your Telebit, enter the pool name in *both* the "Gname" and "Sname" fields.

If you are not dialing out through a general pool, the software will try to access the ports on the PNASI server in the following order:

PORT 1
PORT 0
PORT 2
PORT 3
PORT 4

Shared network installation - Workstation setup
===============================================

IMPORTANT: Always consult your network administrator before installing software on your network.

There are two ways to set up the LEXIS COUNSEL CONNECT software on a network, depending on your network. Further, a utility to automatically set up LEXIS COUNSEL CONNECT on a network workstation is included with this version of the software.

1) To install LEXIS COUNSEL CONNECT for shared access on a network running a local version of MS Windows:

Install the LEXIS COUNSEL CONNECT software on a network drive that all intended users can access. The directory may be assigned READ and FILE SCAN access after you have created your connection profile. (Consult your LEXIS COUNSEL CONNECT manual on how to set up the software for use with various connection methods.)

Once you have installed and established a connection profile, the software is now set up for shared access on the network.

To set up an icon and install the appropriate files for a workstation on your network, start MS Windows on the workstation. With Windows running, click on the File menu in the Windows Program Manager and choose Run. Type the path to the network LEXIS COUNSEL CONNECT directory and specify the WKSETUP.EXE file (i.e.: F:\LCCWIN3\WKSETUP.EXE, where F:\LCCWIN3 is the directory where the software is installed on the network). WKSETUP.EXE is the workstation setup program.

During the installation, choose the working directory for that workstation. The working directory is a place where downloaded files, address books and folders are stored so it's important that the working directory be unique for each workstation.

The setup utility will ask you if you would like an icon created for this workstation. Please elect to do so as it will point to the correct icon, command and working directories.

2) To install LEXIS COUNSEL CONNECT for shared access on a network running a shared version of MS Windows:

Install the LEXIS COUNSEL CONNECT software on a network drive that all intended users can access by inserting the first installation disk (Disk 1) into the floppy drive and running "a:\setup /n" (or b:\setup /n if your floppy drive is the b: drive) from the Run option in the File menu of your Windows Program Manager.

Using the "/n" parameter when installing the software will copy the Windows system files to the user's personal Windows directory instead of to the network \windows directory, which may be limited to READ and FILE SCAN access rights on your network.

The LEXIS COUNSEL CONNECT directory may be assigned READ and FILE SCAN access after you have created your connection profile.

Type the path to the network LEXIS COUNSEL CONNECT directory and specify the WKSETUP.EXE file, again with the "/n" parameter (i.e.: F:\LCCWIN3\WKSETUP.EXE /n, where F:\LCCWIN3 is the directory where the software is installed on the network).

If you are having trouble installing the software, please feel free to give LEXIS COUNSEL CONNECT's customer service department a call at (800) 955-5291.

Upgrading from an earlier version
=================================

OLE 2.02 Support
================

LEXIS COUNSEL CONNECT version 3.02, installs Netscape Navigator and five supporting OLE files for Netscape. These OLE files are version 2.02 and are installed to the /windows/system directory. The filenames are:

STORAGE.DLL			157,696  09-04-94  8:07a
COMPOBJ.DLL			108,544  10-03-94  1:16p
OLE2.DLL			302,592  09-04-94  8:07a
OLE2DISP.DLL			164,832  09-04-94  8:07a
OLE2NLS.DLL			150,976  09-04-94  8:07a
5 file(s)        884,640 bytes

By default, the LEXIS COUNSEL CONNECT installation routine installs Netscape Navigator and its supporting files (including the five OLE DLL's). (You have the option not to install Netscape Navigator. If you elect not to install Navigator, no OLE files will be installed to your PC.)

If you accept the default, OLE files will only be copied to your PC on the condition that no OLE files by the same name exist in the target directory (/windows/system). Navigator will try to utilize the existing OLE files.

If Navigator is unable to run with the existing OLE files, OLESETUP.EXE, located on disk 1 of the three disk Windows installation, will install the five OLE DLL's. This program will prompt you to overwrite each file that exists. It will also make back ups of the existing OLE files in the format of FILENAME.Bxx.

Whether the OLE files are installed initially, or through OLESETUP.EXE, LEXIS COUNSEL CONNECT installs OLE, version 2.02 (listed above).

If you experience problems with applications that use OLE after installing the LEXIS COUNSEL CONNECT software, you can revert to your existing OLE files by renaming the backup files that the installer created.

We can also provide you with an OLE complete update. We have versions 2.01 (older), 2.02 (present) and a 32 bit version (2.03) of the OLE library. These files are available for download in the LIRBARY, from LEXIS COUNSEL CONNECT Software and Utilities, Software Updates section, on LEXIS COUNSEL CONNECT and are also available on disk by request.
