           >>>>> Cyber Angel's Totally Biased Warez Report <<<<<
                           Issue # 5 - May 1995

DISCLAIMER: As the name clearly states, this report is Totally Biased.
While I have done my best to be fair to all groups/games
reviewed, I can just see many people scream out the word
"bias" and can also see many rag messages following this
report. Therefore, I decided to go with the flow and
declare this report TOTALLY BIASED. Meaning, whatever
is written below is my personal opinion. If you don't
like it - don't read it, if you read it - don't bitch.

RULES: Final/Retail version of every English playable game on
diskettes (no CD rips!) will be reviewed. First part of
the review will be NON biased, as it contains only the
MEGGAGE of the releases which cannot be argued over.
However, this first part will also be often INACCURATE,
as a 500k game may be much better than many 10mb ones.
Now, the second part can be argued to be much more biased,
thats where I rate the games on a 1 to 10 scale. My
rating will be based on multitude of factors - mainly the
quality of the game, demand (how many people play it),
quality of crack if one is needed, etc. Add-ons, scenery
disks, updates etc. will only receive HALF the points.
Games that are in foreign language but fully English playable
(like Chinese arcade games), US versions, newer versions of
previously released games (Doom 1.8, etc) will also receive
a much lower rating. If two or more groups were to merge,
their scores would be added together. Since this will be the
most "biased" part of my report I would once again like to
state that I am only expressing my opinion and anyone unhappy
with the scores is welcome to release a Report of their own.

Speaking in terms of the competition, May was the most interesting month of
this year. Finally is it well established that there is not two or three,
but four active groups capable of competing with several smaller groups also
able to snag a few decent releases. The game scene is not as predictable
anymore and hopefully it will hold many more surprises in June. Main concern
for the major groups now is the European game markets. Out of 11 releases
rated 5+ this month, 7 has been supplied from Europe, and the statistics from
April are similar. While there is still no group with a monopoly over the
European games, this month it seems Razor and Genesis fought it all out in the
UK while Eclipse and Tyranny could but watch, trying to pull whatever possible
from North America. Given the fact that Eclipse seemed to do much better in
UK last month, it will be very interesting to see whether they will be able to
re-gain their position there in the summer. Next month will also complete the
first half a year and I will try to summarize some of the statistics, so do not
miss the next month's report! Meanwhile, lets take a look at what the groups
have been up to in May:
*Eclipse* In my previous Report, I've been wondering whether or not this new
group will pass the test by time - in the first 1/3 of the month Eclipse seemed
to answer this question well by obliterating the competition with several high
quality releases in a row. Moreover, as Eclipse has proved its ability to
release from Europe last month, they have taken out everybody on the US
releases this time, getting almost every quality game that was supplied from
USA this month. However, they have slowed down majorly after the first 10 days
of the month, being only able to produce one minor release during the rest of
the month. While I still beleive in their abilities, I guess the question
remains, whether or not Eclipse will stand the ultimate test by time. The
upcoming month should be able to shed some light on that.
*Energy* Yet another group came out of nowhere, released an unknown (but
fairly decent) game and seem to have disappeared again. Its hard to say
whether we will see anything else from them in the future, but anything is
possible.
*Epitath* Same story as above. The "enhanced" version of Epic Pinball they
released was duped by Edge later during the month.
*Genesis* They have started our fairly well releasing one of the best games
of the month (SSF2T), but slowed down greatly since than, and at the end of
the month it looked like they will be beaten by just about everybody. But,
in the last day GNS managed to pull through releasing two games from UK, one
of which happens to be a highly acclaimed title (SS5K), hence leaving TRN and
Eclipse behind and coming in second to Razor in this month's race.
*Quartex* Another Amiga group has made its way into the PC scene, released
one game and than has been absorbed by Razor. I guess the scene is just like
business, it is more profitable to absorb the opponent than win over him :)
*Razor 1911* The "Blade" members have not been very active the first half
of the month. In order to put up at least something against Eclipse's streak
of releases they came out with a couple of budget titles, but it was the last
two weeks of the month when they came back at full strength, managing to get
alot of quality games from Europe and coming out a clear winner for this month.
*Tyranny* While not being very active this month, TRN managed to do ok putting
out two good releases and a couple of small games. Space Golf from us rocks,
give it a try :)
