Title: Installation of ARCserve 5.01 on NetWare 4.01
Document Number: 12005
Date: February 7, 1994
Product: ARCserve
Product version: 5.01

ARCserve 5.01 backs up both the NetWare 4.x file system and
the NetWare Directory Services Database.

Installation

When installing ARCserve 5.01 on a NetWare 4.01 file server
you must be logged in using bindery emulation. Bindery
emulation is a feature of NetWare 4.01 that allows a portion
of the NDS (NetWare Directory Services database) to appear
like a NetWare 3.x bindery. ARCserve 5.01 works with
NetWare 4.01 in bindery emulation mode.

To verify that you are logged in using bindery emulation:

1. Check the file server for the following SET command in
the AUTOEXEC.NCF

     SET BINDERY CONTEXT = [CONTEXT]
where [CONTEXT] is the NDS context that stores
bindery objects

     For example:

          SET BINDERY CONTEXT = O=TRAINING

(The bindery objects are in the organization "training"
off the root.)

2. The login name that you are using should exist in the
bindery emulation context.
(Using NWADMIN or NETADMIN, you can verify this.)

3. When you login, type:

          LOGIN [FILESERVERNAME]/[USERNAME] /B

          /B allows for bindery emulation

     For example:

          LOGIN FS/SAM /B

4. In order to install ARCserve 5.01, you need to have
Supervisor objects rights in the context that you
     install ARCserve into.

5. Verify that your CLIB.NLM is dated 3/24/93 (or later,
if applicable).

6. Place the following SET command in your AUTOEXEC.NCF:

SET UPGRADE LOW PRIORITY THREADS = ON

When Using the ARCserve Manager

1. If ARCserve is running on a NetWare 4.x server and you
are using NetWare 4 VLM's on the workstation, you must
log in as a user that exists in the bindery context of
the host server running ARCserve. Otherwise, you will
not be able to submit jobs.

2. Whenever you submit an ARCserve job, you must provide
security information (user and password) for the server
you wish to backup. The login name specified must
exist in the bindery context of the source server
     specified.

Use SMS Backup with NetWare 4.01

When backing up the NetWare 4.01 servers, it is best to use
Full SMS, for the following reasons:

The restore of the NDS may cause the User and Group IDs
to change. If files are restored which were not backed
up using SMS, the user IDs may not exist or may even have
the ID of a different user causing the trustee
assignments to restore improperly. SMS will back up
based on user name, rather than ID number, so the trustee
  assignments will restore properly.

Compressed files will not be uncompressed when backed up
using Full SMS, therefore, SMS backup may increase backup
speed since the OS does not have to uncompress the files.
Additionally, when restoring an entire volume which was
NOT backed up using SMS, the restored files may not fit
on the same volume they were backed up from, since the
files will not be compressed upon restore. SMS will
guarantee that all files are returned to the volume in
the same compressed state as during the backup job.

Backing Up the NDS Database using SMS

1. In order to reliably backup the NDS and prevent any
future problems with restoration of trustee
assignments, all NetWare 4 file servers should be
backed up using full SMS - for the file system & the
     NDS. To accomplish this:

On each NetWare 4 file server included as a backup
          source, load TSA400.
On the ARCserve Scheduler screen, select
Configuration, and select YES for the option, "Use
SMS for DOS & MAC files" to enable Full SMS. Be
sure to press [F2] to save this configuration
          change.
Within the backup window, for each NetWare 4 file
server selected as a source, a user name other
than SUPERVISOR, should be provided that exists in
the bindery context of that file server. This
user must have a minimum of Supervisor Object
rights to the Server Object. To provide this
login name for each NetWare 4.x server:

               1. Click on the file server in the Backup
Window.
               2. Select Node Options.
               3. Provide the appropriate user name &
password

Warning: If a name within the bindery context
of NDS is not supplied, ARCserve will
                 default to SUPERVISOR. When Supervisor
connects to NetWare 4 file servers, SMS
backup cannot be performed. Without SMS,
in the event of a restore, trustee
assignments may not be restored properly.

2. In order for the NDS to be backed up, the user login
specified for login of the NetWare 4.x file server
running TSA_NDS.NLM, must have Supervisor Object rights
at the [ROOT] of the NDS tree.

3. To configure a backup job to include the NDS,

setup an unattended* backup job of a NetWare 4.x
file server with at least one complete volume
          selected; and
load TSA_NDS.NLM on that NetWare 4 server.

Note: If you have selected multiple NetWare 4
file servers within a backup job, TSA_NDS
only needs to be loaded on one of the
NetWare 4.x servers with at least one full
                 volume selected. However, TSA400.NLM
should be loaded on all NetWare 4.x file
servers included in the backup in order to
ensure that the trustee assignments will
                 be properly restored, if needed.

The NDS will be a separate session. The entire tree
will be backed up. The tree will only be backed up
once per job, even if multiple servers or volumes are
     selected.

Note: Both the NetWare 4.01 NDS and file system
may be backed up using a NetWare 3.1x file
server. As with a NetWare 4.01 host
server, Full SMS should be used for
                 backup.

*An unattended job is a job run using file server resources.

Note: As of 4/5/94, the following patches provided by Novell
are recommended when using the SMS option: SMS_UPDT.ZIP and
STRTL2.ZIP.
Restoring the NDS

To restore the NDS:

1. Configure the restore source using either method A or B
below

     Method A
     a. Open a Restore Window & select the Tape Session
     View
     b. Choose a session where the source is
     <servername>/full directory backup.

                         - OR -
     Method B
     a. Open a Restore Window & select Tree View
     b. Choose the NetWare 4.x file server.
     c. Select the source as "Full Directory Backup".

2. For the destination, choose any volume on the server
that has the TSA_NDS.NLM loaded.
