ADDITIONS TO USER GUIDE

The following FontMonger capabilities have been added since
the User Guide was printed:

1. Choosing "Keyboard Layout" or "Character Chart" from the
Options menu when there are no keyboard windows open sets
   the *default* keyboard window view.

The default view is used for all new font documents (i.e.
   untitled keyboard windows).

2. "Build AFM Files" and "Build INF Files" on the Options
menu allow you to decide whether to generate AFM (Adobe
Font Metric) and INF (font information) files when
   building PostScript fonts.

Normally, these files are not needed except for special
applications. The default is *not* to build either AFM
   or INF files.

3. When an Alter Character window is open, the Window menu
indicates the display scale of the character display.

You can change the display scale by choosing a scale from
the menu, as well as by using the magnifier tool described
   in the user guide.

4. You can access the Set Font Information dialog from the
keyboard by typing the accelerator key combination Ctrl+T.

5. The Set Font Information dialog shows the number of kerning
pairs that FontMonger found for a font.

When opening a PostScript Type 1 font file, FontMonger
looks for a PFM or AFM file, with the same base name,
   containing the font's kerning pairs.

You can examine the number of kerning pairs shown in the
Set Font Information dialog to verify that FontMonger
found the font's PFM or AFM file.

Note that the PFM or AFM file must be in the same directory
as the base font file, or in a subdirectory of the base
   font file's directory.

TRUETYPE FONT FAMILIES

Due to a quirk in the way the Windows 3.1 Control Panel installs
fonts, TrueType font families consisting of more than the basic
four font styles (regular, bold, italic and bold-italic) may
not function correctly.

We strongly recommend that you avoid installing families of more
than four font styles, until a workaround for the Windows 3.1
problem can be found.

If you need to use a family that has more than four font styles,
you should split it into several families of up to four font
styles each.

MACINTOSH FONTS

- The User Guide says that FontMonger creates System 7 TrueType
files when you convert fonts to Macintosh TrueType format.

FontMonger actually creates suitcase files containing the
   TrueType fonts.

- When you convert fonts to Macintosh PostScript format,
FontMonger creates two files with extension MRF. The first
file (which has the name you specified) is the suitcase
file. The second file (which has the name with a "$"
appended) is the downloadable PostScript file.

The downloadable font file must be renamed to the correct
font file name after it is transferred to the Macintosh.
If you use the FontMonger File Exchange translator module
with Apple File Exchange, the file will be renamed auto-
matically for you as part of the translation.

- For more information about using the FontMonger File
Exchange translator with Apple File Exchange, please see
the "Read Me" file on the File Translator disk included in
   your FontMonger package.

Note that the File Translator disk is in Macintosh 800K
format, and so cannot be read directly on your PC without
   special hardware.

CORELDRAW (WFN) FONTS

A few of the WFN fonts that are supplied with CorelDRAW version
2.01 or earlier (such as "Nautical Flags" and "Space") do not
contain valid font names.

If you wish to convert these fonts to other formats, you
should open them with FontMonger and give them suitable
names. See the section "Setting Font Information" in Chapter
6 of the User Guide.
