NOTES ON THE VANGUARD RETIREMENT PLANNER -- VERSION 2.0
=======================================================
This readme file provides important information not included in the
accompanying User's Guide.

LIMITATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

1. USING A MOUSE

If you plan on using a mouse, please note that The Vanguard Retirement
Planner - Version 2.0 software is designed to operate best when used
with a Microsoft-compatible mouse and mouse driver (such as MOUSE.COM).
The mouse driver must be loaded prior to executing the Vanguard software.
If you have a mouse connected to your PC but it is not 100% Microsoft-
compatible, mouse performance cannot be guaranteed.

2. MEMORY RESOURCES

If your computer is equipped with expanded and/or extended memory, the
expanded memory must conform to the Lotus/Intel/Microsoft (LIM) EMS
version 4.0 specification or later. Extended memory must conform to the
XMS provided in a memory manager such as HIMEM.SYS.

3. PRINTING

Because of the graphical format of each of the software's printable re-
ports, your PC must have certain minimum amounts of conventional memory
(RAM) and/or extended memory (XMS RAM) available while the software is
operating. During printing, you may not be able to print at the selected
resolution due to insufficient available PC memory. If this occurs and the
High resolution setting is checked (in the PRINT-SETUP PRINTER dialog box),
try selecting the medium resolution. If you still have problems printing,
try one or more of the following:

* make sure the proper printer is selected in the PRINT-SETUP
PRINTER-SELECT PRINTER dialog box. If your printer does
not appear on the list, select a printer which most closely
	matches yours.

* from the PRINT-SETUP PRINTER-SELECT PRINTER dialog box, choose
	the GENERIC (text) printer.

* verify that the proper printer port is selected. For most
printers, this will be via the LPT1 Port. Also, make sure that
the desired print-outs are specified and that printer output is
directed to the PRINTER and not to a FILE.

4. CHOOSING A DIRECTORY

Before installing The Vanguard Retirement Planner - Version 2.0 to your
fixed disk, make sure that there are no other subdirectories named, "VRP2".
If there are and you choose VRP2 as your default directory, files already
in that directory may be overwritten.

5. OPERATING FROM WITHIN MICROSOFT WINDOWS

The Vanguard Retirement Planner - Version 2.0 may be operated from within
Windows. For reliable operation, use the RETIRE2.PIF file provided during
installation. (If you install the software in a directory other than C:\VRP2,
you must change the RETIRE2.PIF file using the Windows PIF editor. Refer to
your Microsoft Windows User's Guide for instructions on how to use the PIF
Editor.) When in Windows, it is not recommended that you operate the soft-
ware in a "windowed" mode (for example, by pressing the ALT+ENTER keys) but
rather, in a fully maximized, full-screen mode instead.
