                        CA-TELON PWS 2.3 maintenance 01
                        -------------------------------

This diskette contains maintenance TLN23M01 for CA-TELON PWS 2.3,
ESP release level.

This README file contains important instructions concerning the
installation process. See the file PWS23DSK.RPT for an inventory of
files that are installed.

Before executing the SETUP installation procedure, you should
utilize the program MAKEVAL on the installation diskette to create a
SETUP.VAL options file. This allows you to perform the maintenance
installation without having to re-specify the options and directory
settings that you entered when the initial installation was
performed. It accepts as input the information in the TLNCHG.DAT
file that should be found in your root PWS 2.3 directory.

MAKEVAL is a utility to convert a TLNCHG.DAT file to a SETUP.VAL
file so that CA-TELON 2.3 PWS maintenance can locate target
directories even if the option of saving SETUP values was not
used during initial installation.

It accepts as arguments two (optional) file names, the input
TLNCHG.DAT file name and the output SETUP.VAL file name. If file
names are not provided, the default is files of those names on
the current directory.

The SETUP.VAL file, after it is created, should be moved to the
maintenance diskette before invoking the SETUP installation
install procedure on that diskette.

After SETUP.VAL has been added to the diskette, simply invoke the
SETUP program to complete the installation. Please note one of the
maintenance installation options: "Create command files". Running
this procedure creates tailored command files (.BAT for DOS, .CMD
for OS/2) from the template files (.TMP). This procedure works by
copying the .TMP files over any existing .BAT and .CMD files and
then modifying them with the latest information in TLNCHG.DAT. This
process is designed for situations in which site-specific tailoring
is done to the template files, not to the resulting command files.
This is the preferred method, since these changes are then available
to both DOS and OS/2, and because this procedure facilitates
coordinated changes to all the files, based on TLNCHG.DAT
modification. However, it is understandable that command file
modifications may have been made at some sites.

If you wish to avoid automatic rebuild of all the command files,
select "no" for the "Create BAT/CMD from templates" option. After
installation has been completed, review the PWS23DSK.RPT file on the
installation diskette to determine what files need tailoring, and
use the MAKEBAT and MAKECMD utilities for re-creating specific DOS
and OS/2 command files, and the FINDCHG utility to modify the PC
target command files. See the CA-TELON PWS Guide for details on
execution of these utilities.
