 The October '94 Ware Report, by The Renegade Chemist
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
 NOTES from The Renegade Chemist :
 The reason for this report is simple.  Nobody else is doing one.
 Being one of the leaders of Razor 1911, I run the risk of someone
 shouting "bias! bias!" when I release this report.  To make it a little
 harder for anyone to do that, I am giving credit to ALL groups that put
 out a specific game, unless they release it uncracked or with a non-
 working crack.  In either case the release will still be listed, they
 just won't get the bytes added to the total for the month.
 At any rate, games considered in this report are commercial DOS and
 Windows games, in english only, or arcade type games in any language so
 long as they are playable to english-only speakers.
 I gleaned the information for my report from the file directories of
 The Assassin's Guild and some other major boards, as well as from
 personal knowledge.
 I will also include a monthly commentary from a third party to write
 whatever he wishes about the report, the scene, etc for the month.
 This month its Eos, I think you may have heard of him.
 If you don't like how I do my ware report, or if heaven forbid, you
 do like it, please let me know on TAG or any other board I frequent.
 All comments are appreciated and if its a good one, you may even get
 a reply.
 You can also look forward to reading the Ware Report in an upcoming
 pirate magazine.  Our new issue should hopefully be out in early December,
 and will NOT revolve around the Ware Report.  It will include interviews,
 rumors, artwork, and the usual fare of pirate magazines, but delivered
 with a style missing from the scene for some time.
 If you are interested in contributing to the magazine's success, please
 let me know by leaving me a message on a board I frequent.  Writers,
 interviewers, even hotheads with nothing to do but complain are all needed
 to make the magazine a success.  You could EVEN be the guy commenting
 on the ware report next month.
 Thanks.
 COMMENTARY from Eos :
 *** Under NORMAL circumstances, Eos would have put some comments in here,
 *** but since its been like 2 days since I have had this sucker finished,
 *** and I'm eager to put it out while people still give a DAMN, this time
 *** there will be no guest commentary, other than a few things from me.
     Okay well it looks like any releases from Pentagram are now moot
     as Genesis has formed and taken all of their members, as well as
     a handful of members from Legend (in the genesis.nfo it lists many
     of them, but in reality most of these guys were never consulted
     with and are NOT leaving Legend, not for Genesis anyway, so as
     of now there this 'merger' is a fallacy - however this is a story
     for the upcoming mag, not the ware report).  Still though it was
     certainly an impressive month for PTG, as they put out quite a
     few more megs/releases than anyone else.  Judging from their
     stellar performance, the software stores must have had record
     sales in October.
     Razor did pretty well this month, considering that most of the
     scene has been out to get them as Razor 1911 is 'the group to
     beat' by most standards of the scene.  While not that close to
     beating PTG in terms of number of releases or raw meggage, Razor
     did put out some quality titles, including the biggest UK game
     so far this Christmas season, Universe.  The only black mark on
     the Razor record sheet for October is the bad crack for FPSF'95,
     however Razor has a history of perfect cracks so I doubt we'll
     see many more mistakes from them.
     The last week of the month saw the emergence of Tyranny, they
     were also given credit for Sabre Team US, Ford Sim 5.0, and one
     of the smaller games that PNX released as Tyranny is an offshoot
     of Phoenix.  Most of their releases were quite small, noteworthy
     however is their release of Earthsiege.
     Legend also put out quite a few titles, but their 'domination'
     of the UK seems to no longer exist as Razor, Paradox, and even
     Pentagram put out some good English games.  Maybe in the future
     Genesis will be able to use what few members of Legend UK joined
     the group to get some UK titles, I'll take a gander and say NO.
     The 2 Nexus releases for the month, while both quite good, are
     obviously the last we will see from this great group, as all
     active members joined Razor.
     Contour came in with a few nice UK titles, not a bad showing for
     a group that still does all of it for fun, and not to bloat a
     self-conscious image in real life.
     Surprisingly, TRSI released a couple games, though the late PTG
     release of Armored Fist was receieved by most boards, and Quick
     really sucked hard.  Will we see more from the 'sleeping Gods?'
     I hope so.
     In summary, October was a busy month, and from what's already been
     out this month, November could be even busier.  Enjoy all these
     great games and don't forget to send Christmas cards to the groups
     that bring you your favorite games.
