If you find yourself sitting quietly in front of
your Apple IIgs this fall writing a school paper or
doing graphics for the Halloween party, you're
overlooking half of the power of your machine. Put
the S in your Apple IIgs to work by adding sound to
your projects, even if only for your own pleasure.

"But," you say, "I don't know how to use sound and
I don't have any sound files or programs." Well,
come on over to A2 where we have one of the finest
collections of music, sounds, and composition
programs available anywhere for your Apple. Our
Library contains around 900 sound-related files and
over 600 pieces of music.

We have programs available to create and play
music, like:

File 23074 MUSICOMP3.0.BXY Music Composer version
3.00.

File 18144 S6.SYNTHLAB.BXY SYNTHLAB disk for IIgs
System 6.0.

File 19378 SOUNDSMITH.BXY Version 1.01 of the
shareware GS music program.

Programs to play music, including:

File 19032 DESKTRACKER.BXY SoundSmith music player
Finder extension.

File 20506 MODZAP.BXY v0.81a of MODZap GS music
player.

File 20665 SONIQTRK.63.BXY SoniqTracker v0.63. IIGS
MOD player.

And, naturally, all sorts of music files to play
and manipulate using freely distributable and
commercial IIgs music-makers as well:

File 20467 BACH.PRELUD.BXY "Steel Guitar" Music for
SynthLab.

File 20940 BACH.TRIO.BXY SynthLab Music by JuMi.

File 20468 MOZART.K331.BXY "Steel Guitar" Music for
SynthLab.

File 22504 HOUSEMETD.BXY a Noise Tracker MOD file.

File 21391 NT.MEGAS.BXY a cool new NoiseTracker
song!

File 22518 AUTUMN.BXY "Autumn" SoundSmith song.

But the sound-production capabilities of your IIgs
don't end with making music. The potential of this
marvelous machine can be used to enhance its
operating environment by playing distinctive sounds
with each of its functions.

Sound resource files (sound effects, voices, fun
stuff, you name it) are available in the Library.
If you're not sure how to turn on those sounds, ask
on the Bulletin Board in Category 2, Topic 28, or
Category 6, Topic 7. One of our staff members will
be glad to give you detailed directions -- provided
some swift A2 GEnie member doesn't beat us to it.

And don't stop there. How about a IIgs game or
three for some cool music and sound effects. Likely
candidates include:

File 20298 DUELTRIS.BXY 2 player game with great
graphics and sound.

File 20329 OILLANDERS.BXY OilLanders tank game from
the FTA!

File 22993 CUPRIC.BXY Prince Cupric II - IIGS
arcade game.

File 22421 THE.TINIES.BXY The Tinies GS -
strategy/arcade game.

File 22348 TICTACTOEGS.BXY IIgs Tic-Tac-Toe game
with music.

You can, of course, play sound and music through
the small speaker in your machine, or you can truly
release the power of your stereo-capable IIgs by
adding an inexpensive stereo card. Check out
Category 4, Topics 3, 4 and 10 on the Bulletin
Board for used stereo cards and other useful
equipment. If you want a new card, contact one of
the many vendors who frequent A2. Our staff will be
glad to provide guidance and help during
installation and setup.

If you have an older 8-bit Apple, don't feel left
out of the sound game. Tim Tobin, A2's
administrator of the Lost Classics project, has
managed to retrieve the 8-bit sound program
Electric Duet. This lost classic will play good
music on your older II, II+ or IIe. Just download
File 20708 EL.DUET.BXY, Electric Duet, A Musical
Lost Classic.

The A2 and A2Pro RoundTables would like to take
this opportunity to give a big hearty welcome to
those Apple folks from America Online who recently
joined us. We are proud to be able to offer you a
home online. If you haven't yet heard about the
special signup offer for Apple II folks leaving
AOL, drop by A2 or A2Pro and ask in the Bulletin
Board, any Real-Time Conference, or by leaving Mail
to the Sysops. We will gladly provide full details
and show you what we have to offer.
