1. Windows HelpMaker: an overview
=================================

  Windows HelpMaker is an integrated environment developed for writing Windows
  Help Files. HelpMaker uses a special text-file format that was designed to help
  building Windows Help -files. Difficult rich text format (RTF) is no longer
  needed (although all RTF-commands are still available). You can easily insert
  hyperlinks, definitions, pictures and special WinHelp macros in your helpfiles.
  No expensive word processing program is needed. HelpMaker also supports different
  languages and their special characters (assuming that Window's Control Panel
  settings are correct). Integrated environment gives you the possibility to create,
  compile and test your help files within one program - HelpMaker.

2. Installing HelpMaker
=======================

  If you received your copy of HelpMaker evaluation version on a diskette in an
  uncompressed form, just run the INSTALL.EXE-program from the disk.

  If your copy of HelpMaker was compressed with pkzip (file name is helpma??.zip),
  you must uncompress it with the -d switch, which uncompresses also the directories
  (for example: "pkunzip -d helpma13.zip"). Then run INSTALL.EXE. If uncompressed
  without the -d switch the program won't install correctly.

3. System requirements
======================

  HelpMaker needs Windows 3.1 or newer running on 386SX or better with at least
  4MB ram. It takes about 1.4 megabytes of hard disk space.

4. Help Compiler
================

  Microsoft Help Compiler version 3.1 (HC31.EXE) is needed by the program, and
  it must be on the path. Help compiler is not included in this package. However,
  it comes with most of the software development environments. You can also
  download it free from Compuserve, and from the MicroSoft download service.
