Important information regarding interface card and port assignment
-------------------------------------------------------------------

If your Epson interface board is set to LPT2 (default) two possible
cases can occur during the Setup Scanner procedure in IMAGE-IN:

1) If no LPT1 port is present in your computer:
You must assign LPT1 as the scanner port in the Scanner Setup
dialog box of IMAGE-IN (even though your interface card is set to LPT2).
This is because the scanner driver automatically detects that no LPT1
port is present and maps its port assignment to this available port.
If you assign LPT2 as the port in the Setup Scanner dialog box, an
error message will occur. If this happens, just reset the port in the
Setup Scanner dialog box to LPT1.

2) An LPT1 port is present in your computer:
In this case, the LPT2 port assigned on your interface card correponds
to the port that the scanner driver will use, and you must assign LPT2
in the Scanner Setup dialog box as well.

Windows enhanced mode system configuration
------------------------------------------

If you are running Windows in 386 enhanced mode (this is
recommended for Image-In), you should read the section in
the Microsoft Windows User's manual about setting a permanent
swap file. It is very important to create a permanent swap file
of at least 4Mb especially if you have 4Mb or less memory in
your machine.

DMA problems and certain scanners
---------------------------------

Certain scanners make use of the DMA, and problems may arise when
these scanners try to transfer big memory blocks to these areas.
If you get a Windows error message relating to the DMA buffer the
following line should be added in the SYSTEM.INI file in the Windows
sub-directory under the [386enh] section:

DMABufferSize=64

Compatibility problems between Image-In and some VGA cards
----------------------------------------------------------

If you are using a 16-color VGA configuration or another
16-color display adapter that includes VGA emulation, Image-In
will try to control the VGA hardware palette directly, so as to
display gray-scale images in true gray scale mode. On certain
systems you may get an altered screen display. To resolve this
problem, the first step is to uncheck "Use VGA palette" in the
view display dialog box. If you still have problems, add the line

   vga=0

in the [display] section of the IMAGEIN.INI file.

Image-In temporary files
------------------------

Image-In creates a temporary file when there is not enough memory
to keep an image completely in memory. This file is created in the
same drive/directory as the other Windows temporary files. If there
is not enough disk space for the temporary file, you can select
another drive by setting the TEMP environment variable. To do this,
put a line in your AUTOEXEC.BAT file as follows:

   SET TEMP=<drive>:\pathname

Kodak Photo CD Sample Images
----------------------------

Four of the sample images that are included with your Image-In
package were directly imported from the Kodak Photo CD photo sampler
disk, using the Image-In Kodak Photo CD import plug-in module. These
images are saved in JPEG format and are copied into the IMAGES
sub-directory under IMAGE-IN.
