                   1.0 NEW FEATURES
-----------------------------------------------------------

1.1 SUPPORT FOR MS-DOS 6.0
This version of Sytos Plus supports MS-DOS version 6.0.

1.2 IBM PS/2 REWRITABLE OPTICAL DRIVE SUPPORT
The IBM PS/2 Rewritable Optical Drive can be configured
as a backup device for Sytos Plus in one of two ways:
    - as a Removable Logical Device, or
    - as a Fixed Logical Device.
There are different Sytos Plus device drivers for the
    two configurations:
    - Removable Logical Device Driver: IBM Optical-Entire
    - Fixed Logical Device Driver: IBM Optical-Partial

1.2.1 Removable Logical Device
To configure an Optical Drive as a removable logical
device, refer to the Section, "Removable Logical
Device Support: IBM PS/2 3.5" Rewritable Optical
      Drive" in this README file.

When an Optical Drive is configured as a Removable
Logical Device, Sytos Plus provides the following
      support:
      - Multiple device: More than one Optical Drive can be
        used for a single Procedure.
      - Multiple media: When end of media is reached, Sytos
Plus will prompt for new media.
NOTE: An Optical Drive configured as a removable
drive does not require formatted media. However,
backups to unformatted media will take longer
           than backups to formatted media.

1.2.2 Fixed Logical Device
To configure an Optical Drive as a Fixed Logical
Device, refer to the Section, "Fixed Logical Device
(Fixed Disk) Support" in this README file. When using
the Fixed Logical Device Driver, Sytos Plus provides
      the following support:

      - Multiple Fixed Logical Devices: The driver can be
used with devices such as optical drives or fixed
disks. (Floppy devices are not supported.)
      - Fixed media: You must use formatted media and must
allocate enough space on the media for the files
you will back up. You do not have the option of
        inserting new media.
NOTE: You must use formatted media. You may then
allocate a portion of the media, or all of the
free space for the files you will back up.

1.3 REMOVABLE LOGICAL DEVICE SUPPORT: IBM PS/2 3.5"
    REWRITABLE OPTICAL DRIVE
This release of Sytos Plus lets you back up to and
restore from the IBM PS/2 3.5" Rewritable Optical Drive.
Before you can configure the drive in Sytos Plus as a
backup device, it must be accessible from your operating
system. (To verify that you can change to the drive,
type the assigned drive letter at the system prompt.)

One additional device driver, IBMRWOPT.SYS, must already
be installed to access the device. If you have not
installed this device driver, refer to the "IBM Personal
System/2 Rewritable Optical Drive Setup Instructions"
    that came with the device.

To configure the Rewritable Optical Drive as a Sytos
Plus backup device, ensure that the device is powered on
and has media inserted. Media does not have to be
formatted; however, backups to unformatted media will
take longer than backups to formatted media.

    1. Select "Utilities" from the Sytos Plus Startup screen
or from the "Edit Procedure" screen.
    2. From "Utilities" select "Backup Device Setup."
    3. Select "Add New Device."
    4. Select the Removable Logical Device Driver "IBM
Optical-Entire" from the list, and select [OK].
    5. Select the Drive letters for one or more Rewritable
Optical Drives from the list, and select [OK].

Multiple Rewritable Optical Drives can be cascaded; that
is, several drives can be used for a single Procedure.
This is useful when performing Unattended Backups for a
large number of files. If your backup set does not fit
on one media, Sytos Plus continues the Procedure on the
    next drive.

Sytos Plus prompts for additional media when the end of
media is reached in a single drive, or in the last drive
    when multiple drives are cascaded.

1.4 FIXED LOGICAL DEVICE (FIXED DISK) SUPPORT
This release of Sytos Plus can back up to and restore
from logical devices including local fixed disks and the
IBM PS/2 3.5" Rewritable Optical Drive. (Floppy drives
    are not supported.)
NOTE: The Fixed Disk driver is not supported
with the DoubleSpace feature of MS-DOS 6.0.

Before you can configure a drive in Sytos Plus as a
backup device, it must be accessible from your operating
system. (To verify that you can change to the drive,
type the assigned letter at the system prompt.)

One additional device driver, IBMRWOPT.SYS, must already
be installed to access the device. If you have not
installed this device driver, refer to the "IBM Personal
System/2 Rewritable Optical Drive Setup Instructions"
    that came with the device.

To use a Rewritable Optical Drive as a fixed logical
backup device, it must have formatted media installed.
Several drives can be cascaded; that is, space on
several drives can be used for a single Procedure. You
must ensure that sufficient space is allocated on the
drive, or across all drives if in a cascaded configura-
tion, for the amount of data to be backed up. A Backup
Procedure will not complete without sufficient space.
NOTE: You must have Read and Write access rights
to any drive that you wish to configure as a
           Sytos Plus logical device.

To add the Fixed Logical Device:
    1. Select "Utilities" from the Sytos Plus Startup screen
or from the "Edit Procedure" screen.
    2. From "Utilities" select "Backup Device Setup."
    3. Select "Add New Device."
    4. Select the Fixed Logical Device Driver "IBM Optical
-Partial" from the list and select [OK].
    5. Select a drive from the "Setup Backup Device" window.
    6. Edit the selected drive to specify a pathname and to
       allocate space, then select [OK].
NOTE: Make a note of the exact configuration for
each device, including drive(s), pathnames, and
allocated space. You will need this information
if you have to reconfigure your backup device.
    7. If you want to add additional drives, select and edit
each drive as described in steps 5 and 6.

------------------------------------------------------------
                      2.0 INSTALLATION
------------------------------------------------------------

2.1 INSTALLING ON SYSTEMS WITH BACKUP DEVICES THAT USE DPT
    (DISTRIBUTED PROCESSING TECHNOLOGY)(R) SCSI ADAPTERS
If your backup device requires a DPT SCSI adapter,
check that the SCSI driver is on your system before you
    install Sytos Plus.

If your CONFIG.SYS file contains a DEVICE= line for
DPTDDL.SYS, the SCSI driver has already been installed
and you can install Sytos Plus. For example, the
    CONFIG.SYS entry for DPTDDL.SYS is:
       DEVICE=[drive:]\[pathname]\DPTDDL.SYS

where [drive:]\[pathname] is the directory where
    DPTDDL.SYS exists.

If a line for the SCSI driver does not exist in
CONFIG.SYS, you must install the driver. Refer to the
installation instructions that were included with
the SCSI adapter. Complete the following steps to
install the device driver, in order to access your
    backup device.
    1. Install the DPT SCSI adapter driver.
    2. Reboot your system so that the changes to CONFIG.SYS
       can take effect.
    3. Install Sytos Plus.

If you do not choose a SCSI device as your default
backup device while installing Sytos Plus, you must
complete the next set of steps when you add the SCSI
    device to your system.

    1. Install the DPT SCSI adapter driver.
    2. Reboot your system so that the changes to CONFIG.SYS
       can take effect.
    3. Start Sytos Plus and select "Add new device" from
"Utilities: Backup Device Setup" to install your SCSI
       device.
NOTE: If the device you want to add does not
appear on the backup device list but is on the
Sytos Plus Installation diskette or a Sytos Plus
Driver Diskette, refer to the section "Copying
Device Drivers from a Diskette," in Chapter 11 of
         the Sytos Plus User's Guide.

2.2 INSTALLING ON SYSTEMS WITH BACKUP DEVICES THAT USE
    ADAPTEC(R) SCSI HOST ADAPTERS
If your backup device requires an Adaptec SCSI host
adapter, check that the Adaptec SCSI device driver is on
your system before you install Sytos Plus.

If your CONFIG.SYS file contains a DEVICE= line for
ASPI4DOS.SYS or ASPI2DOS.SYS, the SCSI driver has
already been installed and you can install Sytos Plus.
For example, the CONFIG.SYS entry for ASPI4DOS.SYS is:
       DEVICE=[drive:]\[pathname]\ASPI4DOS.SYS

where [drive:]\[pathname] is the directory where
    ASPI4DOS.SYS exists.

If a line for the SCSI driver does not exist in
CONFIG.SYS, you must obtain a software package from
Adaptec. Use the following table to determine which
SCSI device driver (Adaptec ASPI Manager) you need, and
in which Software Package it is included.
NOTE: The ASPI2DOS.SYS or ASPI4DOS.SYS driver
should be loaded in CONFIG.SYS before any memory
           management or caching device drivers.

    SCSI HOST REQUIRED SOFTWARE
    ADAPTER DRIVER PACKAGE
    AHA-151x ASPI2DOS.SYS ASW-1210
    AHA-152x ASPI2DOS.SYS ASW-1210
    AHA-164x ASPI4DOS.SYS ASW-1410
    AHA-154x ASPI4DOS.SYS ASW-1410
    AHA-174x* ASPI4DOS.SYS ASW-1410
    (*AHA-1740 in standard mode)

Complete the following steps to install the ASPI
Manager, in order to access your backup device.
    1. Install the ASPI Manager using instructions in the
       software package from Adaptec.
    2. Reboot your system so that the changes to CONFIG.SYS
       can take effect.
    3. Install Sytos Plus.

If you don't choose a SCSI device as your default backup
device while installing Sytos Plus, you must complete
the next set of steps when you add the SCSI device to
    your system.

    1. Install the ASPI Manager using instructions in the
       software package from Adaptec.
    2. Reboot your system so that the changes to CONFIG.SYS
       can take effect.

2.3 INSTALLING ON SYSTEMS WITH BACKUP DEVICES THAT USE
    FUTURE(R) DOMAIN SCSI ADAPTERS
If your backup device uses a Future Domain SCSI adapter,
check that the device driver for the adapter is on your
system before you install Sytos Plus. Follow the
instructions in the appropriate section below, depending
on whether you are using a 16-bit or an 8-bit Future
    Domain SCSI adapter.

2.3.1 Installing Sytos Plus on systems with devices that
      use a 16-bit SCSI Adapter
NOTE: If your CONFIG.SYS file contains a line for
DCAM1800.EXE, the device driver for the 16-bit
SCSI adapter has already been installed and you
can install Sytos Plus. The following is an
           example CONFIG.SYS entry for a DCAM1800.EXE
driver installed in the root directory:
             DEVICE=C:\DCAM1800.EXE
     a. Install the SCSI adapter driver if it has not been
installed and add a DEVICE= line to CONFIG.SYS.
Refer to the documentation that was included with
        the Future Domain SCSI adapter.
     b. Reboot your system so that the changes to CONFIG.SYS
        can take effect.
     c. Install Sytos Plus.

2.3.2 Installing Sytos Plus on systems with devices that use
      an 8-bit SCSI Adapter
NOTE: If your CONFIG.SYS file contains a line for
DCAM950.EXE, the device driver for the SCSI
adapter has already been installed and you can
install Sytos Plus. The following is an example
           CONFIG.SYS entry for a DCAM950.EXE driver
           installed in the root directory:
             DEVICE=C:\DCAM950.EXE /CA00 3
The DEVICE= line must include the memory address
and interrupt line number (IRQ) for each 8-bit
           SCSI adapter installed.
     a. Install the SCSI adapter driver if it has not been
installed and add a DEVICE= line to CONFIG.SYS.
Refer to the documentation that was included with
        the Future Domain SCSI adapter.
     b. Check your CONFIG.SYS file to ensure that the
DEVICE= line for DCAM950.EXE includes the memory
address and interrupt line number (IRQ) for each
8-bit adapter. If you installed more than one
adapter, the memory address and IRQ can be listed on
        one line as shown below:
          DEVICE=C:\DCAM950.EXE /xxxx i /xxxx i
where "/xxxx" is the memory address and "i" is the
IRQ number. Possible memory addresses include /CA00,
       /C800, /CE00, and /DE00. Possible IRQ numbers
       include 3, 4, 5, 10, 11, 12, 14, and 15.
     c. Reboot your system so that the changes to CONFIG.SYS
        can take effect.
     d. Install Sytos Plus.

2.4 SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR MODIFYING CONFIG.SYS WHEN
INSTALLING SYTOS PLUS UNDER DOS 6.0
Under DOS 6.0, you can create multiple configurations
using different "blocks" within one CONFIG.SYS file.
You can then select one configuration from a boot-up
    menu.

You can let Sytos Plus automatically modify CONFIG.SYS
during installation. However, Sytos Plus adds commands
to the beginning of CONFIG.SYS, and it is possible for
the commands to be added to the wrong configuration
block. You may need to edit CONFIG.SYS later and move
the modifications to the correct configuration block.

Refer to your DOS 6.0 documentation for more
    information.

-----------------------------------------------------------
                       3.0 MISCELLANEOUS
-----------------------------------------------------------

3.1 IBM 8505 (5.0GB 8mm) TAPE DRIVE SUPPORT
This version of Sytos Plus provides support for the IBM
8505 drive, a 5.0GB 8mm tape drive with Quick File
Access (QFA) support. When using a 5.0GB drive as a
Sytos Plus backup device, note that:

    - A 5.0GB tape drive can read tapes created on a
      2.3GB 8mm tape drive.

    - A 2.3GB tape drive cannot read tapes created on a
      5.0GB 8mm tape drive.
NOTE: A tape created on a 2.3GB drive can be
Appended to on a 5.0GB drive. The tape can then
be read in the 2.3GB drive.

3.2 CREATING A BACKUP TAPE ON AN NCR 5GB 8mm TAPE DRIVE
THAT IS READABLE ON A 2GB TAPE DRIVE
In order to create a backup tape on an NCR 5GB tape
drive that will be readable on a 2GB tape drive, you
must use the 2GB device driver. Set up the 2GB device
driver, "NCR 6091 2GB 8mm," using setup instructions
     in the User's Guide.

If you do not use the 2GB driver, the backup tape will
not be readable on a 2GB tape drive.

Under normal operation, backing up to 5GB tapes on a
5GB tape drive, use the device driver for the 5GB
     drive, "NCR 6091 5GB 8mm."

3.3 ADDENDUM TO USER'S GUIDE, VERSION 1.4 FOR DOS
The section in the Addendum entitled "Running
Sytos Plus on Systems with Windows 3.1 and Smartdrive
4.0 Installed" is not applicable for this version of
    Sytos Plus.

3.4 LIMITATION WHEN USING A FIXED DISK AS A BACKUP DEVICE
    UNDER DOS 6.0
If you are using a Fixed Disk as a backup device for
Sytos Plus, do not use the DOS 6.0 DoubleSpace disk
    compression feature.
