   N A R C A L E R T !!! N A R C A L E R T !!! N A R C A L E R T

My good buddy Richard Hillyard, aka Mad Gator, Sleepy Gator and former
sysop of The Duck BBS in Atlanta, has threatened to have me BUSTED unless
I restore some upload credit for some GIFs. I've never heard of anything
so childish in my life, and of course, I am not going to yield to the
demands of a NARC! Shoot, would *you* allow someone to remain on your
BBS after threatening to turn you in to Autodesk and the SPA? Hell no!
So, I must take down my board, Mother Lode.

If you would like to talk some sense to this dick, his number is in the
Atlanta white pages:

Rick, you are hardly one to cast the first stone. Members of The Duck
have told me about the upload contests you used to have, and I think
your employer might be interested in knowing what the first prize of
that contest was, and this was while you were employed at Autodesk!

Here are the messages Rick sent to me:

Mr. Carlton,

Since you have decided to insult me in public, and have removed the
upload credits, I have decided to turn you in. I have been an employee
of Autodesk now for 5 years. We have a department called affectionately
"the AutoCOPS". Since Autodesk, Novell, and Microsoft were the founding
members of the Software Piracy Association (SPA), all 3 companies are
very aggressive in shutting down boards and prosecuting to the limit.

I will call back here in the next 24 hours. If during that time, you
have removed my access, I will call Ms. Sandra Boulton who is head of
the piracy dept. at my home office and give her your name, address, and
the copy of your directories, that list gigabytes of copyrighted
software including my companies products. If I still have access, and my
upload bytes are put back on, I will do nothing. THE CHOICE IS YOURS.
The main difference between this board and the DUCK is that the DUCK did
not have an ASSHOLE for a SYSOP.

Trust me, this is not a threat, and Autodesk will take action if I tell
Ms. Boulton about you.

Sincerely,
Sleepy Gator

OK Mr. Carlton. I have just captured a Zippy scan and have captured
listings of all Autodesk programs, such as AutoCAD and 3D Studio, as
well as some smaller Autodesk programs that you list as available. I
have also captured a zippy scan of all Microsoft software, CYCO
software, and Softdesk software. CYCO and Softdesk have add-on products
to AutoCAD and the owners of these companies happen to work with me on a
daily basis. Bill Gates, and John Walker (the founder of Autodesk) are
good buddies, and John would be more than happy to call Bill for me.

Now you have many, many former Duck members on-line here. For their
sake, I hope your BBS gets to continue. But if you want to be an
asshole, I would love to play hardball with you. The amount I have
downloaded here is nothing and I would not miss this BBS a bit. Boards
are a dime a dozen. But as a conscientious employee, I may not really
have a choice. We'll just have to see.

Have a good day.

And here are the messages that set him off.
Please tell me if I was really an "asshole"
deserving of the above:

I saw your reply about the comics in the upload directory, noticing that you
addressed it for the sysop. I believe that all users who might be interested
in the files would be concerned about the answers to those questions I posed.
I certainly don't know enuf about comics to know if this series has been
released or not, and even if it's unreleased, GIFs just don't seem like
warez, to me. Where did these files come from? At first, I thought you might
be taking so long to upload since you were scanning, yourself, or something.

Since you also took 3 days to finish the upload, and only indicated the
total size after the last upload on the third day, we had no way of knowing
if the whole thing was here, yet. And it wasn't *that* big that it couldn't
have been uploaded all at once, presuming that it is worthy to be uploaded
to a board where "true warez" are the rule with few exceptions.

Well, I see that you decided to kill my message to you without replying to
my question about where the Comic GIFs came from, or defending them as
something worthy of space on this board, or explaining why it took three
days to complete the upload, or offering any words of apology for not
providing descriptions which might entice somebody to actually download
the files. I just checked the transfer log, and there has not been even
one download of any of the files, so it looks like they will not be missed
if I delete them and deduct the upload credit, so that is what I will do
now.

Your private comments to another user about how you'd sure like to put
The Duck back up and blow away the competition since there aren't many
quality boards anymore just added insult to injury.

I have tried to be patient with you since some of the users here think
you ran a good board at one time. I wouldn't know since I was never on
it, but I sure wish I was able to see some of the qualities now that
you must've had back in the days of The Duck...

B.C.
