Demoversion StarWriter 2.0 for Windows

This file contains important notes about the program.
Please read these notes carefully, before you begin
to use StarWriter 2.0 for Windows.


1) Problems during installation or start of program

As per latest information the installation program may
crash on certain systems. This is caused by the little
pictures, displayed during installation. In such cases
you can call the installation with the added parameter
/BILD. Here the complete command when the product
directory of the CD is active:

           SETUP /BILD

Please ensure at least 2 MB temporary free space on your
HD, which the installation program needs to be executed.
Note that the Environment Variables TEMP= and/or TMP= in
the AUTOEXEC.BAT point(s) to an existing directory.

Should the Setup program have problems to create or change
directories, call on DOS command line CHKDSK /F - This
command has to be called on DOS level, not out of a Windows
DOS-Box.


2) Remarks to the application


a) Restrictions of the demoversion

The essential difference between the demo- and the product
version is a watermark being printed on every page, marking
that the printout was made with a demoversion.

Furthermore some database drivers and the tutor files are
not included.


b) Mirror graphics

The feature "Mirror graphics" is only possible with bitmaps.
To mirror vector graphics is impossible for technical reasons,
but usually specific drawing applications offer all kind of
manipulation possibilities.


c) Screen update

During our tests we recognized that some graphic adapters
are unable to restore the screen completely, after certain
functions have being called.

To solve this problem, we implemented an additional function
to restore the screen, which can be called by pressing the
key combination
                         CTRL SHIFT R

If parts of the screen are not correctly erased or mutilated
restored, you have a comfortable possibility to display your
document again exactly as it should be.


d) User dictionaries

If you want to use an own dictionary, you have to create or
register it first in the dialogbox "Speller" by clicking the
button "Options" and enter the directory's name. As long as
no user's dictionary is registered, the button "Insert" is
deactivated.


e) Fields

StarWriter offers the possibility to insert fields with user
defined names, f.e. user fields or variables. Please avoid
names with special characters, as such names can't be used
for calculations under certain system configurations.


f) Printing problems

Our experience shows that not all Windows printer drivers
run faultless. Problems can occur in connection with very
special functions, f.e. printing different grahic formats.

In case of such problems please ask your printer manufacturer
for available modified printer drivers. Also our Hotline may
help with depending information, but therefore they need exact
details about the driver and it's release specification, and
the exact description of the occured problem.


g) Direct print of labels and envelopes

When printing envelopes and lables directly, there is no
possibility to select a special printer driver. StarWriter
is using the standard printer driver automatically, which
you may change with the Windows System Panel.


h) Import and export of documents

Basically every application offers different ways to realize
features and functions. Therefore every import and export of
documents is connected with the loss of formatting information.
We tried to implement especially the import driver as powerful
as possible, but to convert 100% of all the hidden formatting
information could technically not be realized. We hope you will
appreciate this fact. In case you notice essential differences
with imported documents, you may send us these documents for
an exact analysis.


i) Field: Page number

There is a possibility to correct the value of the field page
number. Please note that the use of a corrected value effects
only the view of the field, not the original page counting.
With tables, references and similar fuctions, the original page
counting is being used, which may effect an inconsistency between
displayed and original page numbers.
