8/6/56 - S.S. Andrea Doria
Loomis Dean

In the dawn off Nantucket Island, survivors from the heavily listing "Andrea Doria" are rowed to safety. At 11:22 p.m. on July 25th, the Italian liner collided with the outbound Swedish motorship, "Stockholm," hurtling the 1,706 passengers aboard one of the newest and most splendid vessels made by man into the sea to come face to face with death. Twenty five were soon reported dead; 37 missing.
