The man suspended in mid-air is 22-year-old Sergeant Felix Flacke, a squad leader in the 82nd Airborne Division.  He had just leaped from the 34-foot-tall practice tower at Fort Bragg, NC. The new airborne operations, being developed at Fort Bragg, were preparing men for a successful counterattack in the next war.  Space, all the generals, German and American, agreed, was going to play a larger part in a future war than it had in W.W.II.
