        Introduction

What the heck took so long?

Boy do I feel like a schmuck. For almost three years
I've been telling people the next version of ZUMFind is
due out Real Soon Now(RSN). Since that time I've
completed most of my work towards my BS in Information
and Computer Science at UCI. My consulting work as
mushroomed, and I'm now working with an application
developer on OS/2. I've started two OS/2 user groups,
given many OS/2 presentations(including local chapters
of IEEE and ACM), and averaged less than 5 hours of
                sleep a night.

In short, I became overwhelmed. The result is that I
never got around to ZUMFind. I now have a little
sympathy for the author of EZ-Reader :)

So I've finally cranked out the final changed for
ZUMFind 2.0. I hope you enjoy them. PLEASE read the
                rest of this document.

                What's in this Version?

Functionally, this version should be minimally the same
as ZUMFind 1.4x. However, it includes a major new
feature of allowing you to edit the data files. This is
done with a program named ZUMEDIT. In the process, the
size of the data files has shrunk considerably. So for
ZUMFind itself, it should operate the same - most of the
                added functionality is in ZUMEDIT.

Also, the data files now support area codes too. This
means that anyone around the country may use ZUMFind if
they are willing to enter in the data.

I've included the old documentation - take it with a
                grain of salt.

And finally, an all new Top Nine Problems with GTE list.

                What's not in this Version

I haven't done a good job of keeping the data up to
date. I encourage you to take a brief moment, sit down
with your white pages and verify the data for your area.

I'm VERY interested in any updates to data you might
have. See the section on how to contact the author
                below.

                An updated manual.

        II. How to Upgrade

Since this is a beta version, use it with care! I
suggest keeping you old version of ZUMFind around for
awhile. So, copy these files into a different
                directory.

III. How to Reach the Author

The best way to reach me is to call Computer Education
Services BBS(714-965-9963) and leave a message. You
will also find updated versions there when they are
available. Alternatively, you may write to me via U.S.
mail at P.O. Box 7283, Huntington Beach, Ca. 92615-7283.
