Installing Reflection
---------------------
Use the Setup program to install Reflection. There are two methods to choose
from:

Method 1 -- Run Setup from the Windows File menu.
	1. Select Run from the File menu.
	2. Type <drive\path>SETUP and press <Enter> to begin installation.

Method 2 -- Run Setup from the File Manager.
	1. Double-click the File Manager icon.
	2. In the File Manager, select <drive\path>SETUP.EXE.

Setup makes modifications to the Windows files SYSTEM.INI and WIN.INI.	If you
have an existing copy of Reflection X, changes are made to the RX.INI file.

NOTE: Reflection X will not run under Windows 3.0.

		      KNOWN PROBLEMS AND WORKAROUNDS
*******************************************************************************

 *  Installation Too Slow

    If Setup seems to take an unusually long time to copy files to your
    hard drive, you may be running a disk caching utility, such as QCACHE,
    that does not cache floppy drives.	We recommend using SMARTDRV for the
    installation procedure. This may reduce your installation time
    dramatically.

 *  Out of memory errors

    If you get an out of memory error, check to see if Windows is
    configured to use a temporary or a permanent swap file. It is
    probably best to have a permanent swap file with adequate memory to
    load Reflection X.	See "Software Requirements" in your User
    Manual (in the chapter called "Installing Reflection X").

 *  16-color display

    The recommended Color Model choice for a 16-color display is
    StaticColor. The StaticColor model is used for displays that have an
    unchangeable hardware color palette, such as a standard VGA. On an
    unchangeable color palette, all color cells are read-only and all RGB
    values are preset.	X client requests for a certain color will be
    mapped to the color that most closely matches.

    To change the Color Model, choose Settings from the Reflection X menu
    and go to the Color category.

 *  HP Visual Editor

    The HP Visual Editor "ved" will not run if the setting for Atom Bound
    to Clipboard in Reflection X is set to PRIMARY. Configure this
    setting in the Clipboard category of the Reflection X Settings dialog
    box.

 *  DECterm fonts

    Under certain conditions, the fonts chosen by DECterm are scaled by
    Reflection X and appear blotchy. This seems to happen only when the
    DEC fonts are in the font path. If you installed RX without requesting
    DEC fonts, or if you remove the DEC subdirectory from RX's font path,
    the problem does not occur. If you need DEC fonts for other
    applications, you can work around the problem as follows:

    1.	Create a new subdirectory called USER under the FONTS directory in
	your RX installation directory. For example,

	cd \rwin\fonts
	mkdir USER
	cd USER

    2.	Using an editor such as DOS Edit, create a file in the new USER
	directory named "FONTS.DIR", which contains a single line as
	follows:

	0

    3.	Also create a file in the new USER directory named "FONTS.ALI",
	which contains the following lines (for readability, each line has
	been split into two lines here):

	-bitstream-terminal-medium-r-normal--0-140-75-75-c-0-iso8859-1
	    -dec-terminal-medium-r-normal--14-140-75-75-c-80-iso8859-1
	-bitstream-terminal-medium-r-normal--0-100-75-75-c-0-iso8859-1
	   -adobe-courier-medium-r-normal--10-100-75-75-m-60-iso8859-1
	-bitstream-terminal-medium-r-narrow--0-140-75-75-c-0-iso8859-1
	    -dec-terminal-medium-r-narrow--14-140-75-75-c-60-iso8859-1
	-bitstream-terminal-medium-r-narrow--0-100-75-75-c-0-iso8859-1
	   -adobe-courier-medium-r-normal--10-100-75-75-m-60-iso8859-1
	-bitstream-terminal-medium-r-normal-gs-0-140-75-75-c-0-iso8859-1
	  -dec-terminal-medium-r-normal-gs-14-140-75-75-c-80-iso8859-1
	-bitstream-terminal-medium-r-normal-gs-0-100-75-75-c-0-iso8859-1
	   -adobe-courier-medium-r-normal--10-100-75-75-m-60-iso8859-1

    4.	Insert the new USER directory at the beginning of Reflection X's
	font path, e.g.

       C:\RWIN\FONTS\USER,C:\RWIN\FONTS\MISC,C:\RWIN\FONTS\75DPI,
	   C:\RWIN\FONTS\DEC

    Be sure that the 75dpi directory is in your font path.

 *  PCNFS Version 4.0

    If you choose PCNFS 4.0 as your network choice during Setup for
    Reflection X, you will be configured as if you were running PCNFS 3.5.
    (VSL.INI in your \Windows directory will have a line that reads
    "transport = pcnfs2".)

    You must run the following programs from DOS before starting Windows:
	RTM.EXE
	either RNMFILE.EXE (when using a HOSTS file) or RNMNIS.EXE
	MPCNFS2.EXE

    NOTE: RTM.EXE must be version 4.0a or above to support Reflection X.

    This TSR method requires more memory. If you do not want to use the
    TSR method, contact WRQ technical support for .DLL files that will
    support Reflection X running over PCNFS Version 4.0.
