

               NetWare SNA Links 1.0 Update


   This update is part of the NetWare for SAA 1.3A/1.3B release for 
   NetWare 3.1x and 4.x. It is compatible with NetWare for SAA 1.3x, 
   but NOT compatible with NetWare for SAA 1.2. Make sure that 
   NetWare SNA Links 1.0 is installed before you install this update 
   (see the next section to install SNA Links 1.0 on SAA 1.3x).
 
   If you had already installed SNA Links 1.0, skip "SNA Links 1.0
   Installation Procedures For SAA 1.3x NetWare 3.1x/4.x Users" section, 
   and go to "SNA Links 1.0 Update Procedures For NetWare 3.1x/4.x Users" 
   section.
        


   A. SNA Links 1.0 Installation Procedures For SAA 1.3x 
      NetWare 3.1x/4.x Users

      1. Enter "CSDOWN" at the NetWare system console prompt (:) to bring 
         down the Communication Executive.

      2. If the message "unable to unload module COMMEXEC.NLM" appears,
         you must bring down all the referenced modules.

      3. Enter "UNLOAD COMMEXEC" at the NetWare system console prompt 
         to unload the Communication Executive.

      4. From a workstation, log on to the server as "supervisor" (NW 3.1x)
         or "admin" (NW 4.x) or equivalent, and, using the NetWare SNA
         Links 1.0 diskette, do the following:

         4a. Create a directory on your server called SYS:SYSTEM\SNALINKS.

         4b. Copy all files except those in CSL directory from the NetWare 
             SNA Links 1.0 product disk #1 to SYS:\SYSTEM\SNALINKS. 
           
         4c. Copy PINSTALL.NLM and CSINSTAL.HLP from SYS:SYSTEM\CSINSTAL to 
             SYS:SYSTEM\SNALINKS.

      5. Install the SNA Links 1.0 by doing the following:

         5a. Enter the following from the NetWare system console prompt:

             LOAD INSTALL
         
         5b. Select "Product Options" and press <Enter>.

         5c. Press <Insert> and backspace over the "A:" path and enter the 
             string:

             SYS:SYSTEM\SNALINKS

         5d. Select "Install on this server" and press <Enter>.

         5e. When the Installation is completed, press <Esc> to exit the 
             install program. 

      6. Proceed to Section B "SNA Links 1.0 Update Procedures For NetWare 
         3.1x/4.x Users."




   B. SNA Links 1.0 Update Procedures For NetWare 3.1x/4.x Users
   
      1. Enter "CSDOWN" at the NetWare system console prompt (:) to 
         bring down the Communication Executive.

      2. If the message "unable to unload module COMMEXEC.NLM" appears,
         you must bring down all the referenced modules.

      3. Enter "UNLOAD COMMEXEC" at the NetWare system console prompt 
         to unload the Communication Executive.

      4. Install the SNA Links Update by doing the following:

         4a. Insert the NetWare SNA Links Update diskette into your floppy
             disk drive.
       
         4b. Enter the following from the NetWare system console prompt:
          
             LOAD INSTALL

         4c. Select "Product Options" and press <Enter>.

         4d. Press <Insert> and enter the letter of the drive containing 
             the SNA Links Update diskette.

         4e. Select "Install on this server" and press <Enter>.

         4f. When the Update is completed, press <Esc> to exit the 
             install program. Remove the NetWare SNA Links Update 
             diskette from the drive.

      5. At each workstation attached to the NetWare server, add the following
         entries to your NET.CFG file (also known as SHELL.CFG):

                PB FRAME MAX = 1024  <--- (for NW 3.1x users only)
                LI FRAME MAX = 1024  <--- (for NW 3.1x users only)
                PB BUFFER    = y

         Replace y with any buffer value from 2 through 10. Refer to the
         section "How the Tranmission Rate Control Algorithm Works" on
         pages C-2 and C-3 of the NetWare SNA Links Administration Guide 
         for more information on these values.

      6. From a workstation, log on to the server as "supervisor" (NW 3.1x)
         or "admin" (NW 4.x) or equivalent, and, using the NetWare SNA 
         Links Update diskette, do the following:

         6a. Copy the following files to file server directory SYS:\CSL:

                \CSL\CSL.NLM    
                \CSL\RIPENH.NLM  <--- (for NW 3.1x users only)
                \CSL\ICM_SPX.NLM
                \CSL\IRWASM.NLM 

         6b. For NetWare 3.1x users, copy the \BURST\PBURST.NLM file to the
             file server directory SYS:\SYSTEM.

         6c. For NetWare 3.1x users, the BNETX.EXE client software is no
             longer being supported. Replacement client software is available
             by downloading DOS/WINDOWS Client Update from the Novfiles 
             Forum on NetWire. 

      7. Update the AUTOEXEC.NCF file by loading the following files in 
         the EXACT order shown below:

                load PBURST   <--- (for NW 3.1x users only)
                load SYS:\CSL\CSL     
                load SYS:\CSL\RIPENH  <--- (for NW 3.1x users only)
                load SYS:\CSL\ICM_SPX
                load SYS:\CSL\IRWASM 

      8. Update the STARTUP.NCF file by adding the following statement:

            Set Maximum Physical Receive Packet Size = 4202



   Note: For NetWare 4.01 users, before you load SNALKS.LAN, you must unload
         CSL.NLM and reload it, then load SNALKS.LAN.

