(I) GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT PCL5 AND /PRINT DRIVERS
=================================================================

This Update includes new printer drivers that provide enhanced
Wysiwyg (:Print) print speed and functionality. This Update also
includes new printer drivers that provide the fastest print speed
for 1-2-3 (/Print) printing. All of these drivers will print to
both paper and transparency media.

You can install PCL5 drivers to print with Wysiwyg using print
features such as scalable font sizes and colors, as well as vector
graphics drawing. These features were previously available only
by using the /Print menu to specify setup strings. The PCL5
drivers contained in this Update provide these features at the
fastest print speed for Wysiwyg and eliminate the use of
setup strings.

PCL5 PRINTER DRIVERS INCLUDED IN THIS UPDATE:

    HP LaserJet III series (PCL5 Wysiwyg)
    HP LaserJet III Si (PCL5 Wysiwyg)
    HP LaserJet 4 series (PCL5 Wysiwyg)
       (supports models 4, 4Si, 4L, and 4P)
    HP PaintJet XL300 (PCL5 Wysiwyg)
    HP DeskJet 1200C (PCL5 Wysiwyg)
    IBM 4039 LaserPrinter (PCL5 Wysiwyg)
       (utilizes HP LaserJet III Si default emulation)

NOTE: IF YOU DO NOT SEE YOUR PRINTER NAME OR MANUFACTURER LISTED
You should choose the HP printer that is compatible with your
printer. For more information, see your printer documentation
or call your printer manufacturer.

NOTE: PCL5 DRIVERS ARE NOT RECOMMENDED FOR /PRINT PRINTING
Drivers with the description ("PCL5 Wysiwyg)" may produce
unexpected results and less than optimal print speed if used
for 1-2-3 (/Print [B,E,F,P] Range) printing. However, you can
use printer drivers included in this Update with the
description "(/Print)" to provide the fastest print speed
for 1-2-3 (/Print [B,E,F,P] Range) printing. For information
on installing drivers in this Update, see section II of this
README file.

Lotus recommends you install both the "(PCL5 Wysiwyg)" and
"(/Print)" printer driver options that correspond to your
printer model to satisfy all of your potential printing needs.

=================================================================
(II) INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE UPDATE DISK
=================================================================

NOTE: If you run 1-2-3 from a network drive, your network
administrator must install this Update on your server. Network
administrators need full access rights to the 1-2-3 directory
and the Wysiwyg subdirectory to install this Update. The
installation procedure below is the same for stand-alone users
and for network administrators.

To use the Update Disk, you must complete these steps:

1. Insert the Update Disk in drive A: (or B:). Then, at the
    operating system prompt, type A: (or B:) and press ENTER
    to make A: (or B:) the current drive.

2. At the prompt, type update followed by a space and the path
    of your 1-2-3 Release 3.x directory, and then press ENTER.
    For example, if you have Release 3.4 and your directory is
    c:\123r34, type update c:\123r34 and press ENTER. When the
    Update is complete, the following message appears: "1-2-3
    Update files have been installed. To take advantage of
    the new printer drivers, you must now run the 1-2-3
    Install program."

3. To start Install, change to your 1-2-3 directory, type
    install, and press ENTER. Then do the following:

    * Select Change Selected Equipment.

      NOTE: If you have Release 3.4 and you previously
      installed a LaserJet IIISi driver for use with 1-2-3,
      you should select First-Time Installation instead of
      Change Selected Equipment. For more information, see
      section IV of this README file.

    * Select Modify Current DCF.
    * Select Change Selected Printer.
    * Select your printer model (or an HP printer that is 100%
      compatible with your printer) with the description that
      corresponds to your printing needs.

      Printer drivers with the description "(PCL5 Wysiwyg)"
      provide enhanced Wysiwyg (:Print) printing. For
      example, if you have an HP LaserJet 4 series printer
      and want enhanced Wysiwyg printing, you would select
      HP LJ 4 Series (PCL5 Wysiwyg). Note that if you have
      Release 3.4, you can also use "(PCL5 Wysiwyg)" drivers
      to provide enhanced graphics (/Print [B,E,P] Image)
      printing.

      Alternatively, printer drivers with the description
      "(/Print)" provide the fastest output speed for 1-2-3
      (/Print [B,E,F,P] Range) printing. For example, if you
      have an HP LaserJet 4 series printer and want the fastest
      output speed for 1-2-3 printing, you would select
      HP LJ 4 Series (/Print).

      Lotus recommends you install both of the printer driver
      options that correspond to your printer model to satisfy
      all of your potential printing needs.

    * Select Change Selected Printer again to select an
      additional printer driver, or select Return to Menu.
    * Select Save Changes.
    * Select Basic, Medium, or Extended to generate a set of
      fonts.

      Note that you must generate fonts in order to take
      advantage of the printing enhancements in this Update.

If you have more than one driver configuration file (DCF),
you must repeat step 3 to recreate each DCF.

For more information about using Install to change your
printer driver selections, see Chapter 5 of Getting Started
(if you have Release 3.4) or Chapter 4 of Setting Up (if you
have Release 3.1 or 3.1+).

To print with your new PCL5 drivers, perform the steps in
section III of this README file.

=================================================================
(III) USING PCL5 DRIVERS WITH 1-2-3 FOR DOS
=================================================================

Use the new PCL5 drivers in this Update to print with the
Wysiwyg :Print menu. For more information about using Wysiwyg,
see your 1-2-3 for DOS documentation.

1-2-3 for DOS will automatically use the internal scalable
typefaces resident in your HP or compatible printer when
you use a PCL5 driver in Wysiwyg.

If you have a 1-2-3 worksheet file you want to print with
your HP or compatible printer driver, do the following:

1. Use /File Retrieve to read the file into memory.

2. Select :Print Config Printer and specify your driver.

3. Select :Print Config Interface and specify the appropriate
    interface.

4. Select :Print Range Set and select the range to print.

5.  Select :Print Go.

For more information on printing with the Wysiwyg :Print menu,
see your 1-2-3 documentation.

The following fonts, displayed when Wysiwyg is in memory,
will automatically map to your HP or compatible printer:

Swiss   -> Univers
Dutch   -> CG Times
Courier -> Courier

NOTE: COURIER FONT MAPPING LIMITATIONS
A fully scalable Courier typeface is not included with the
HP LaserJet III series or PaintJet XL300. Therefore, if you
are using an HP LJ III series or compatible printer, Courier
will automatically map to the best-matching typeface, which is
CG Times. If you need to use Courier in your print jobs, you
should not use a driver with the description "(PCL5 Wysiwyg)".
Instead, use a driver with the description "(/Print)" for your
printer model.

NOTE: WYSIWYG SCREEN DISPLAY LIMITATIONS WITH HP SCALABLE FONTS
Keep in mind that 1-2-3 may not display the actual font
available in your printer onscreen. You may notice that the
spacing between characters changes onscreen when you select a
font available in your HP or compatible printer. This indicates
the width of characters as they will appear in your print jobs.
If you have Release 3.4, see section IV of this README file for
additional information on improving your screen display matching.

NOTE: CHANGING PAGE SIZES IN WYSIWYG
If you are using the Wysiwyg :Print menu, the new PCL5 drivers
provided in this Update support all page sizes for your printer.
You do not have to select a particular option when you use
Install; the Install page size options support 1-2-3 /Print
menu printing. You can use :Print Layout Page-Size to change
page sizes.

You can also use :Print Layout Page-Size Custom to access the
B4 page size, which is available on the PaintJet XL300. To use
the B4 page size with a PCL5 driver, select :Print Layout
Page-Size Custom and enter 10.118in as the page width and
14.331in as the page length. These values must be exact.

=================================================================
(IV) Additional Notes for 1-2-3 for DOS Release 3.4 Users
=================================================================

IMPROVED PERFORMANCE USING PCL5 DRIVERS WITH /PRINT [B,E,P] IMAGE

If you have Release 3.4, you can also use PCL5 drivers to
print graphs with the 1-2-3 menu (/Print [B,E,P] Image) in
addition to the Wysiwyg menu (:Print). You can gain improved
performance when you print graphs with PCL5 drivers.

If you have Release 3.1 or 3.1+, you should not try to print
graphs with /Print [B,E,P] Image when using a PCL5 driver as
this will produce unexpected results.

IMPROVING WYSIWYG SCREEN DISPLAY MATCHING

If you have Release 3.4, use the following steps to select
your HP printer font by name in Wysiwyg so that the fonts
displayed in Wysiwyg will better match the scalable fonts
your PCL5 driver uses when you print with Wysiwyg.

The following steps are not applicable to Release 3.1 or
3.1+, which do not provide access to new enhanced font
files included as part of this Update.

1.  Select :Format Font Replace (1 - 8) Other.

NOTE: Remember that Font 1 is your default typeface. To
change the typeface of any particular cell or specified
range of cells, select :Format Font and the number from
1 - 8 that corresponds to your currently defined library
of eight typefaces.

2. Select the appropriate printer font (HPxxxxxx.IFL).

    Swiss   -> Univers  -> HP-UNVRS.IFL
    Dutch   -> CG Times -> HP-TIMES.IFL
    Courier -> Courier  -> HP-COUR.IFL

3. Specify a point size from 1 to 72 for the selected
    typeface.

4. Select /File Save to save your worksheet file. This
    guarantees that 1-2-3 will use the new .IFL files and
    that enhancements in the updated drivers will take effect.

5. If you want to apply your font selections to ALL new
    worksheet files as you create them, select :Format Font
    Default Update to save these font selections as your
    default font library.

    NOTE: If you want to use your font selections with selected
    worksheet files, you can store your font selections in named
    font libraries instead of in the default font library.
    Use :Format Font Library Save to create a font library.
    For more information, see your 1-2-3 documentation.

If you want to use the fonts in your default font library with
an existing worksheet file, retrieve the existing file and
select :Format Font Default Restore to apply the fonts in your
default font library. To update the file, be sure to save
these changes using /File Save.

For more information on using fonts in Wysiwyg, see your
1-2-3 documentation.

NOTE: ACCESSING ADDITIONAL TYPEFACES ON HP LASERJET 4 SERIES AND
DESKJET 1200C PRINTERS You can select additional decorative
scalable typefaces on the HP LaserJet 4 series, the DeskJet 1200C,
or compatible printers, by specifying them with :Format Font
Replace (1 - 8) Other. You can specify the following typefaces:

    Albertus           HPALBERT.IFL
    Antique Olive      HPANTOLV.IFL
    Coronet            HPCORNET.IFL
    Garamond Antiqua   HPGARAMD.IFL
    Letter Gothic      HP-GOTH.IFL
    Marigold           HPMARGLD.IFL
    CG Omega           HPOMEGA.IFL

Not all of these decorative fonts are available in bold,
italics, or bold-italics with your printer. For example,
Marigold is available in a normal typeface only, so if you
use :Format Bold or Italics, these attributes will not appear
in your print job. Additionally, Coronet is an automatically
italicized font, so you do not have to select :Format Italics.

Where an attribute is not available, your printer will apply
the most appropriate fallback attributes to your print job
based upon your printer's capabilities. To determine which
font attributes are available for each typeface, perform a
print test of the fonts in your printer. For more information
on performing a print test, see your printer documentation.

NOTE: FOR USERS WHO HAVE BOTH RELEASE 3.4 AND LASERJET IIISi
If you previously installed a LaserJet IIISi driver for use
with 1-2-3, you should select First-Time Installation
instead of Change Selected Equipment to specify your
equipment again, including your new IIISi drivers. This
ensures that your previous IIISi driver will not be selected.
For more information on using First-Time Installation, see
Chapter 3 of Getting Started.

=================================================================
(V) COLOR NOTES FOR HP PAINTJET XL300 AND DESKJET 1200C USERS
=================================================================

Both the HP PaintJet XL300 PCL5 and DeskJet 1200C PCL5 drivers
support color printing using the Wysiwyg :Print menu. The PCL5
drivers provided in this Update eliminate the use of additional
print settings or setup strings to add color to your print jobs.

TO ADD COLOR TO YOUR WORKSHEET DATA:

Use :Format Color Text and Background to set the text and
background colors for a particular entry. If you use
:Format Color to add color to your worksheet data, remember
to save your work with /File Save. Work that you print with
Wysiwyg (:Print) matches what you see on the screen as
closely as possible.

For more information on formatting with color, select
:Format Color and press F1 (HELP).

TO PRINT A GRAPH IN A WORKSHEET:

After you create a graph, you can use :Graph Add to add the
graph to the current worksheet. You can size the graph by
sizing the worksheet range that will contain the graph. After
you add a graph to your worksheet, remember to save your work
with /File Save. To print graphs you add to the worksheet
along with worksheet data, use the Wysiwyg :Print commands.

For more information on adding and printing graphs in
worksheets, see your 1-2-3 documentation.

TO ADD COLOR TO A GRAPH:

Use /Graph Options Color to add color to a graph. If you have
several named graphs in one file, select /Graph Name Use to
make the named graph you want to add color to current before
you use /Graph Options Color. Also, if you add color to a named
graph, remember to save the graph with the file using
/Graph Name Create. After you add color to a graph, remember
to save your work with /File Save.

For more information on 1-2-3 graphs, see your 1-2-3
documentation.

TO ADD ADDITIONAL WYSIWYG OBJECTS AND COLOR SELECTIONS TO GRAPHS:

You can use :Graph Edit Add to add text, arrows, and even
freehand drawings to a graph. Then you can use :Graph Edit Color
to specify the color of the text and the background of a graph.
You can also specify the color of the outline of objects and
the color to fill objects with in a graph.

NOTE: Certain Wysiwyg limitations can cause some colors you
specify with :Graph Edit Color to be displayed differently
onscreen than they appear when they are printed. Before you
use the new PCL5 drivers to print graph objects in color, you
may want to print the COLORTST.WK3 worksheet file supplied
with 1-2-3. COLORTST.WK3 is also included on your Update Disk.

COLORTST.WK3 lets you compare the available colors you can
print to the colors displayed onscreen. Do the following:

1. Select /File Retrieve and specify COLORTST.WK3 as the
    file to retrieve from the 1-2-3 directory (or from your
    Update Disk, inserted in drive A: or B:).

2. Select :Print Config Printer and Interface.

3. Confirm that :Print Range Set is correctly set.

4.  Select :Print Go.

5. Compare your printed colors to the colors displayed
    onscreen in order to determine the best color selections
    for :Graph Edit Color.

=================================================================
(VI) PRINTING THE README.TXT FILE
=================================================================

PRINTING README.TXT TO A LOCALLY-CONNECTED PRINTER

1. Make the drive that contains the Update Disk current.

2. At the DOS prompt, enter the following command:

    PRINT README.TXT PRN

    where PRN represents the port you want to print to,
    for example, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, or PRN.

For more information on printing a file from DOS, see your
DOS documentation.

PRINTING README.TXT TO A NETWORK PRINTER

1. Make the drive that contains the Update Disk current.

2. At the DOS prompt, enter the following command:

    COPY README.TXT LPTX

    where LPTX represents the port you want to print to,
    for example, LPT1, LPT2, LPT3, or LPT4.

For more information on printing a file from DOS, see your
DOS documentation. For more information on determining your
network printer port, see your network administrator.
