ZyIMAGE 2.0 for Windows Readme File

INSTALLATION NOTES - Follow these steps to install ZyIMAGE:
----------------------------------------------------
1. Start Windows and select File:Run... from the Program Manager
   menu bar.

2. Type a:\setup (or b:\setup if using b: drive) into the text
box and press ENTER or OK.

3. The Install program prompts you for a path to use (default is
c:\zyimage.) A bar graph shows install progress. Install
decompresses and copies files, and sets up a new group and
   program icons.

CAUTION: If you are using a large display adapter such as a TIGA
based adapter in 1280x1024 resolution mode, we recommend using
VGA resolution when installing. Before installing ZyIMAGE, use
Windows setup to change the display type to VGA. After
installation change the display type back.

NOTE: Before using ZyIMAGE, you must install Calera's M Professional
system. Once it is installed and operational, insure that the full
path to m-pro.exe is listed in your DOS PATH environment variable.
Both M Professional and ZyIMAGE software make use of a number of
the same dll's. In particular, you should check for both ctl3d.dll
and pixdflt.dll in your system. If you discover more than one of
them, for example in both your windows directory and your m-pro
directory, delete the older one and place the newer one in your
windows/system directory.

UPGRADE INSTALLATION NOTES:
---------------------------
UpGrading from release 1.x -
You can install 2.0 directly over 1.x; indexes, text and tif files
are compatible with 2.0. In release 2.0 the index set is unique to
each user and is stored in the preferences file, zyindex.ini. The
first time you run zybuild or zyfindi, either program will create an
[Indexes] section in zyindex.ini, filling it with the indexes listed
in the installation's index.lst file. Subsequently neither zybuild
nor zyfindi will read or write the index.lst file. Existing indexes
not listed in the index.lst file will need to be imported into your
set. This can be done manually using the Select Index dialog or
automatically by including a SearchPath= statement in your zyindex.ini
file under the [Indexes] section. See the User's Manual for more
information.

When creating text and tif files, ZyIMAGE 2.0 uses a file number stored
in zyfile.asc in the zyset subdirectory located wherever zyimage was
installed. The install program attempts to set this file count
properly when installing over 1.x installations. If for some reason
the file count is incorrect, the user may receive an error message
when attempting to save a document. This can be corrected by
increasing the number in zyfile.asc till it is greater than any
previously used count. Use DOS' Edit program or a similar ASCII
editor to do this.

Using ZyIMAGE on a Network:
---------------------------
If you are installing ZyIMAGE for use on a Novell or Vines
network, the Install program places network aware libraries
in your Windows\system directory if they do not already exist
there.

For each user you need to place these libraries in
the DOS search path. The four Novell libraries are:
nwconn.dll, nwcore.dll, nwmisc.dll, and nwwrkstn.dll. Vines
uses one library: vnsapi.dll.

Alternatively, users can copy them into their own Windows\system
directories. Although ZyIMAGE does not require these libraries,
they provide index independence from drive mapping variations
among workstations. If ZyBUILD and ZyFIND cannot find these
libraries, each application produces a notebox warning that the
libraries are missing. Although you can cancel these warnings
without harm, ZyIMAGE is then sensitive to different drive
mappings on various workstations, and prompts for your user name
the first time you run ZyFINDi.

If you use FTP Software's Interdrive on a tcp/ip network with an
NFS file sever, ZyIMAGE will automatically sense this and be
drive mapping aware provided you use the configuration file method
to mount drives. ZyIMAGE will only map drive volumes, not filenames,
in this environment.

Building indexes requires temporary disk space. We recomend that
you locate tmp space on local drives. ZyBUILD looks for a place
to put tmp files in this order:
1) location set by DOS variable TMP, if it is defined;
2) location set by DOS variable TEMP, if it is defined;
3) the index directory

USAGE NOTES:
---------------------

1. The install program places an initial version of zyscan.ini in the
windows directory of the person installing ZyIMAGE. For use
with multiple scanning stations, this zyscan.ini file should be
copied to the windows directory of each additional scanning
station if different indexes will be used by the different stations.
If all stations will use the same index, the zyscan.ini file should
instead be placed in the installation area. The reason for this is
that the keyfield definitions, text and tif paths are all stored in
the zyscan.ini file, so care must be taken when using multiple
indexes to make sure the desired keyfields and paths are selected.

2. When ZyIMAGE is installed on a network, multiple users can
search an index, even while that index is undergoing Build
processing. On some networks, when Build processing is
complete, searchers using ZyFIND may not be able to retrieve
newly added files, with the result that the Search Results
window displays "not found" for these files. ZyFIND users
can overcome this by closing and reopening the Enter Search
Request window. This problem can also occur on a stand-alone
system running ZyFIND and ZyBUILD concurrently.

3. The autosense feature in ZyBUILD has a binary file detect
mechanism that will skip a file designated for inclusion if it
contains too many non-printing ASCII characters, provided they
do not match a supported file format type. To force such
files to be added to an index anyway, select ANSI or IBM PC
character set in the word processor format dialog.

4. You may encounter occasions when Build processing stops and
gives you this message: "Indexing error. Indexing aborted."
This is most often caused by non-standard file formats or
faults in ZyIMAGE' file format processing. Please call
ZyLAB tech support when this occurs and, if possible, make
available to us the file being added when the error occurred.

5. When using KWIC View, search results for fname= or eod can-
not contain valid contexts for "hits" on these terms. In
such a case the Search Results window displays "not found"
   instead of lines of context.
