The first decision you need to make is about the type of team you wish
to produce; the style of play you intend to pursue. Are you going to kick the
the living daylights out of the opposition? Are you going to charm them into
submission with your beautiful football? Are you going to build a flexible
squad that allows you to tailor your tactics to the exploit the opposition's
weaknesses whatever the opposition?
When you've made that decision then you need to investigate your starting
players to sort out those you wish to become part of your future and those
who have no place at your club. Dump the latter onto the transfer list. Then
you should think about the training regime for younger players in order to
develop the skills you'll need to make a success of your style of play. You
may need to shift players between the first and reserve squads as you can
only determine the training of first team players.
You will also have to decide which type of players you need to buy from
the transfer list in order to build the squad you're after. Investigate all
the players that seem likely to increase you pool of suitable skills and go
fishing around the lower divisions for young players that can be trained to
become significant in your bid for trophies.
