MYSTERY AT NIGHTVALE version 1.0
created by Glen DeBiasa

Mystery at Nightvale is my first attempt at an Unlimited Adventures adventure.
It is NOT a standalone game and requires Unlimited Adventures to play the
module. It is designed for a low level party (levels 2-3), preferably one
created at the start of the module (if you insist on bringing some other
characters over, I wouldn't bring those less than 2nd level or stronger than
4th level).

I never really had the chance to run any "serious" Advanced Dungeons & Dragons
games, but I loved the stories surrounding many modules. I did enjoy many of
the Gold Box games, but found myself frustrated with the difficulty of battles
or having no sense of what to do next (I'll admit, the latter didn't happen
very often in the Gold Box games). I also don't like having the area view
disabled (though there were places in this module where I considered disabling
it), but if you want the challenge or prefer mapping yourself (I don't), just
don't use the area view.

If you're looking for a hack-and-slash or Monty Haul adventure, delete this
game from your disk right now. That's not to say that there isn't treasure or
challenging battles, but this short module is story driven. Since it is my
first venture, I don't expect that you'll find everything to your liking. I am
looking forward to your comments, concerns, and honest criticisms. If you tell
me what you like and dislike about the adventure, it would encourage me to make
further adventures.

Be frugal with the items you find. It IS possible to finish the module with a
party created at the beginning and with the items you find in the module. As
with most other games, do keep more than one save file. There are a few areas
you might find it useful (although probably not criticial).

Much of the new artwork and combat icons are courtesy of other users of America
Online. I pride myself as a good storyteller, but when it comes to artwork,
I'm lousy. So I really appreciate all the great artwork I've found and a tip
of my hat to all those users who recognize their work in my story.

You'll also find some new monsters (or at least new to Gold Box games). Most
are from AD&D sources, but some of their abilities needed to be slightly
modified to conform to Unlimited Adventures specifications. Some are more
powerful than you might think, so beware.

There are plenty of other stories and characters to meet on the land of Drym.
If you want more, let me know.

I can be reached on America Online as GlenDB. Enjoy!
