Introduction

The GEOKIT system is an integrated earth sciences mapping and modeling system for
AutoCAD. GEOKIT combines full function mapping (QUICKSURF), a relational database,
and AutoCAD into one cohesive system. GEOKIT as a productivity pak for Schreiber
Insturments QUICKSURF - Digital Terrain Modeling System and this document describes the
features of the combined system. The following is an overview of the systems functionality
describes how the system operates with QUICKSURF as it is a requirement.

Base Mapping

Generate base maps effortlessly from your data. Label any coordinates or field strings
contained in database to a symbol. Clip contours at map border or provide detailed
boundaries for internal and external clipping. Import land grid in DXF or IGES format. Built
in multiple fonts (AutoCAD), well symbols, and point symbols. Full user definition of
symbols using base AutoCAD drafting functions. Multiple layer definition for overlays and
symbols and posted values. Overlay maps of different size, shape, or projection.

Posting

Post well symbols with any database field contents in user specified rotation, size, and layer
around symbol. Database information at symbol in columnar fashion. Control point
information from isopach values, depths, or values derived from database or surface modeling
operations with offset, rotation, size, justification and precision.

Contouring

Contour labeling, indexing, hachuring, and dashing. Contours generated from triangulated,
gridded surface model, or triangulated gridded surface models by linear interpolation.
Contour by sequence of colors, by an index, cycle, or min/max settings. Contour from a
fixed list of elevations with optional specific color by level.

Graphic Operations

Full use of all AutoCAD editing tools with GEOKIT loaded. Full three dimensional operation
in the base drafting environment. Fully compatible with user defined coordinate systems and
paper space. Completely interfaced into the AutoCAD CAD system utilizing the AutoCAD
Development System (ADS).

Database Interface

Support for DBASE IV, FOXPRO, and PARADOX as the systems database manager. Load
data based on user defined graphical window. Point and shoot from map to database using
full graphical selection (AutoCAD's standard select objects). Extract data from drawing and
automatically build data files containing information as to x,y,z location, attributes, and block
name. Extract points, blocks, and attributes to database files. Full database manager available
inside AutoCAD from menu selection. Full protected 32 bit mode direct access to database
tables for symbol loading and x,y,z data loading without leaving the AutoCAD drawing
editor. ASCII file generation for use with third party products, such as CD-ROM databases.

Surface Modeling

Surface modeling from random or regularly spaced data imported from database or external
ASCII files. Modeling of surfaces using multiple methods with user control of options within
each method. Triangulation of data conforming to the Delauney criterion. Gridding of data
using a proprietary method. Triangulation gridding of data using a combination of
triangulation and gridding methods for modeling of surfaces with nonconformities. All
methods honor user defined polygonal internal and external boundaries.
Triangulation of data into a full three dimensional model of surface. Gridding by the
calculation of first and second derivatives at each control point. Theoretical surface derived,
honors all control points. Full control over gridding parameters from within AutoCAD. Full
control over grid cell size in x,y and data window.

 Derivatives - Zero=No grid smoothing, First=Continuous slope, Second=Continuous
curvature.
Trend with user selected order in directions x and y or single x,y order.
Automatic residual generation between selected base grid and trend methods.

Triangulation gridding of data providing full control over the modeling of surface
nonconformities. Input of random or regularly spaced point data, and 2D or 3D polylines as
input for break lines. Models produced form planar surfaces between breaks and conform
surfaces to break lines. Control over triangulated grid cell size in x,y and data window for
modeling. Can be used for normal fault modeling when full fault polygonal traces selected as
break lines.

Surface to Surface Operations

Complete surface to surface operations provided in memory for extremely fast efficient
processing of data. Multiple surfaces, in memory, can be operated on with SAVE, READ,
WRITE, LOAD, DELETE, COPY, RENAME, MOVE, LAYER, and LIST. Surfaces
individually, or surface to surface calculations Minimum, Maximum, Floor, Absolute Value,
Add, Subtract, Multiply, Divide, Remainder, Square Root, Exponent, Natural Log, Sine,
Cosine, Arctangent, Xslope, Yslope, and Absolute slope.

Surface Drawing and Analysis

Draw surfaces as polygonal mesh, 3DFACES, polyfaces, polylines x and y, or dots. Grid and
TIN surfaces colored by Slope (% or degree), Elevation (interval), Visibility (discrete point),
Light (discrete point), Direction (Aspect), or another grids z values.

Symbol Drawing

Automatic loading of symbols into drawing by color, layer, and size. Symbols may be
defined with multiple attributes for specific database field information.

Volumetrics

Volumes for any surface by average cell height, or full integration under each cell. Volume
by polygonal map boundaries with optional zero line for surface extents definition. Grid or
triangle surface area calculation.

Multiple Cross Sections and Profiles

Drape any polyline onto any surface generated with user control over accuracy and
calculation. Develop profiles and/or multiple cross sections from all included surfaces.
Convert multiple cross sections from structural to stratigraphic cross sections instantly.
Provisions for the fitting of curves onto cross sections and selective labeling by database
fields at the top of each section.
