you will be familiar with the contents.

Memory and Disk Space Requirements for Starting PTE
---------------------------------------------------
In order to ensure smooth operation of Personal Tax Edge,
the program will automatically determine if there is enough
memory and hard disk space available to start the program.
If your system has less than 470 kilobytes of RAM memory or
less than 50 kilobytes of free disk space available, the
program will not start. A message explaining which resource
is in short supply will appear on your screen.

New Features Not Included in the PTE User's Guide
-------------------------------------------------
   * Tax Forms - This feature allows you to conveniently
review and edit the forms and schedules which have been
     saved using one of the main data entry methods;
Interview, Tax Organizer, or Forms. The forms listed
here are identical to those found on the Forms List
     using the Forms method.

To access this feature, select Return from the Main
Menu, Review return from the Return menu, and then Tax
forms from the cascaded Review return menu.

   * Smarter Import from Other Programs - Values destined to
the same cell on the same form or schedule are now
automatically summed before being transferred to a tax
     document.

New Command Line Options
------------------------
There are two new command line options to modify how PTE
uses your computer's conventional memory.

If you are running PTE in low memory, are receiving out of
memory messages, or have a large tax return you may want to
type PTE -m to start the program. This will cause PTE to
reserve more of your computer's available conventional
memory for your data and the windows of the program. With
the -m option you may notice PTE running a bit slower, since
less of the program file will be in memory.

If, on the other hand you have a small return and no low
memory problems, you may be able to improve the speed of PTE
by typing PTE -s. This will cause PTE to use less of your
conventional memory for the data and windows and keep more
of the program file in memory.

Accessing Tax Tips
------------------
The Tax Tips option does not operate as described on page 36
of the October User's Guide. Tax Tips is only accessible
directly from the IRS Instuctions help window. For example,
to view Tax Tips for Schedule C, press Ctrl+F1 while viewing
a Schedule C or select Schedule C from the IRS Instructions
Directory of Topics. When the IRS Instructions for Schedule
C appear, select the Tax Tips command button (Alt+X) to
access Tax Tips.

Graphics Printing
-----------------
Personal Tax Edge does not include the Graphics button
described on page C-10 of the October User's Guide.
Instead, a special laser printer driver that requires no
adjustment is used for laser printed (graphics) forms in
Personal Tax Edge. Complete instructions for using this
feature are included in the Program Information help of the
program.

National Averages Command Buttons
---------------------------------
The command buttons available from the National Averages
window differ from the description on page 66 of the October
User's Guide. The command buttons that appear in the
National Averages window are:

   * IRS Help Access IRS Instructions help topics.

   * Print Print the National Averages window.

   * Close Close the National Averages window.

Using the Canon LBP-8 Printer
-----------------------------
Users of the Canon LBP-8 printer who used the planning
version of Personal Tax Edge should reset their printer
codes to the new default settings included in the final
filing version. The new default codes will correct a problem
in which fields on the tax forms were not correctly
underlined.

To apply the new printer codes, install the final filing
version of Personal Tax Edge, then select Set up printer
from the Options menu. On the Printers window, highlight
Canon LBP-8 and execute the Edit button. From the Edit
Printer Codes window, execute the Reset button. Execute Yes
when asked to confirm the use of the default printer
codes. Execute OK to save the new printer codes.

Using MS-DOS or PC-DOS Version 2.11
-----------------------------------
If you are using MS-DOS or PC-DOS version 2.11 and you wish
to use the Laser Printed Forms Option, you will have to
complete the following steps from the DOS prompt to install
this feature:

1) Create a subdirectory under the Personal Tax Edge program
directory called LASER. For example, if Personal Tax Edge
is installed to C:\PTE92, you would type

      MD C:\PTE92\LASER

2) Change directory to the new directory. Using the example
above, you would type

      CD C:\PTE92\LASER

3) Insert the Personal Tax Edge Installation Disk 1 in drive
A: or drive B: and type

      A:LASER (or B:LASER if using drive B:)

The laser form software files will be uncompressed and
copied to the LASER subdirectory. The Laser Printed Forms
installation is complete.
