1/2/89 HI KIDS... First of all a hearty thanks to Mr. Camaro who cracked JetFight without a working copy! Good Job bud... Second of all there is this doc file. The following was scanned using OmniPage (On a Macintosh II). It has typos but its better then nothing. If I had a Kurzweil OCR I would have used it instead. Anyway, since I have bitched in the past about people uploading software with no doc, I felt the need to get as much of the original doc as possible, given my time constraints. SO, if the typos bother you.... excuuuuse meeeee. Key ...............Action B ...............Wheel brake-remember to release the wheel brake to take off! Backspace ............Speed brake. Try to get around him, and then close on him from his six. Once in a dogfight. you might find yourself at a stalemate If your opponent is not making enough mistakes to let you take the advantage. you might try an extension maneuver, like a split S. to get away from him on afterburners. Then get on his six from a distance and renew the attack. Its all a game of strategy and tactlcs. It takes a while to become a chess master Expect to take a while to become a top class fighter pilot SAMs If those 'fuckin' Surface to Air Missiles keep getting you. make sure you are using the correct missile counter measure Here s a quick hint the top two leftmost warning lights light up to indicate the approach of a SAM The left one is RED for IfraRed (IR) heatseeker so use a flare (by pressing the 'F'key) on that one The RIGHT one is for Radar Homing (RH) and is colored yellow, and you should use chaff ('C' key) against that one Skip Zoom If you are bored of watching the initial sequence that zooms you in from space. or you want to skip the mission orders. try pressing the Interior/Exterior View Switch key. This places you instantly into the cockpit of your waiting jet. Missile View Try hitting Function Key 9 (F9) after releasing a missile or a bomb This gives you a missiles eye view. Either the Interior View Key or F9 toggles you back out of missile view. Demo Contrary to the description of the Mission Selection Screen on page 35 of the users manual, RAM memory limitations pre- cluded adding a demo mode to this product Carrier There are several hints for successful carrier landings in a help Landings sequence before Training Mission #5. You mght try jotting some notes down while reading it. In a nutshell: 1 ) make sure your line up is perfect. 2) keep your speed under 170 knots, and 3) expect to take a few hours to get it down right. Carrier landings are very difficult in reality Finding When you take off from the carrier the enemy is usually far Bogeys beyond your radar range. A vector for target interception is given in the mission tactical orders rhe orders will tell you the range and heading of the bogey. and the second screen gives you an intercept VECIOR A m in this direction and you will eventually spot him on your radar screen Finally, you can always spot the enemy n the Satellite Map Mode. by pressing the M key Fnemy are represented by red triangles and friendlies by white triangles The carrier looks like a little carrier. Now. once you have the enemy in your radar. you still might not see him because he is probably out of visual range. It sometimes helps to track him with the on board targeting computer. The targeting computer is accessed in weapons mode, by pressing the 1 key until the target is blinking on your radar display. You should also press the Function 5 F5 key to access the Multi-Function Display for air target tracking. This displays the identification of the bogey's radar signature (once it is close enough to resolve it), his speed, heading and altitude. This is a useful display You might even be right below the enemy, or on top of him. and you wouldn't know, unless this display told you so! Flight Logs If you want to support multiple players and flight logs. you might create another directory. C:\JFIGHT2. and copy all your JetFighter files to it When your buddy plays the game from THAT directory. a different flight log is created in that directory. ----------------------------------- TRAINING MISSION 5 DATE: 03/06/93 REARDON: Tomorrow we take you boys out to sea. Catapult takeoffs and full carrier landings on board the Constellation. Once prepped tor thc cat, set the throttle at 90% thrust. Next, you 'll be cleared for takcoff. As the catapult fires, push the throttle to full military power. Pull back on thc stick, and as you bcgin to climb, light the afterburner. Padinsky'? BRILLO: What about the ground brake, Sir'? REARDON: The catapult will hold your plane in place. With takeoffs its all in the timing. lf you're slow on the throttle or the after-burner, you will wind up with wet feet. Now about landings. I know you've been through it a thousand times, but let's do it again. Carrier landings are what make the Navy different. The Air Force can do a Iot of what we can do, but they can't do this. Here's thc sequence for landings: When you're returning and request a landing, activate the Carrier Landing Display in your Master Monitor Display, and thc tower will eventually clear you. Aftcr you receive your "Charlic" from the tower, enter the groove, the approach, and thcn drop your hook and landing gcar, secure thc Master Arm Switch, and line it up. There are four arrestor cables on the flight deck. Your objective in every landing is to hook the third onc. If you come in too fast and overshoot the cables, shovc thc throttle to 100%. and bolter, othcrwise go to 10% thrust when you trap. If you bolt, you will already be powered up to take off for another attempt. Remember, you need to perorm four flawless carrier traps, two daytime and two at night, to qualify for active combat missions. Good luck, men. Now return to your Jet Fighter program, Training Mission #5. ============================================== WEAPONRY You will be flying a fighter aircraft. Remember that the airplane itself is secondary in importance to the weapons systemmm
