Misc notes on games that were interesting, weird or require some explanation. This page is for games released from 1981-1989 ==1981== * Arithmetic Games Set 1 [f1] (1981)(IBM, Science Research Associates) [Strategy, Educational].zip - The [f1] was needed because the game screws around with memory in a funny way, producing weird side effects on newer PCs (and in DOSBox). * Square, The (1981)(David N. Smith) [Strategy].zip - earlier version, different from the 1983 version * Zork II- The Wizard of Frobozz r22 [DC] (1981)(Infocom, Inc.) [Interactive Fiction, Adventure] - If Zork 2 game out in 1981, then there may be a very early release of Zork 1 out there? The booter images I have of Zork 1 are 1983 onward, but release 75 or higher. Some infocom titles that have corresponding [DC]'s with the same release # are technically different, so they were added. The [DC]'s do not use the setup.inf and do not allow you to switch column widths. ==1982== * 3D Tic-Tac-Toe [a1] (1982)(Reza Beheshti) [Strategy].zip - slightly different .bas file. wow. I think actually the end was modified after the game was released. (source is in lower case) * 3D Tic-Tac-Toe [a2] (1982)(Reza Beheshti) [Strategy].zip - Compiled. * 3D Tic-Tac-Toe [a2] (1982)(Reza Beheshti) [Strategy].zip - Also compiled, doesn't play music and is in a different palette. * Anti-Ballistic-Missile [a1] (1982)(Ed Davis) [Action] - different file size of main .exe? No other differences detected. * Astro-Dodge (1982)(Digital Marketing Corporation) [Action].zip - requires CGA only. * Battle of the Bulge- Tigers in the Snow, The (1982)(Strategic Simulations, Inc.) [Strategy, War] - game diskette says 1981, but ads for the title in CGW say available in Dec 1982. CGW Mar-Apr '82 does not list IBM PC as one of the formats published, only Apple/TSR-80; CGW Jul-Aug '82 has ad for this game, does not mention IBM PC, only Apple/Atari; CGW Nov-Dec '82 lists PC version of this game out by Dec. 1 '82. CGW Jan-Feb '83 has ad depicting this game as being "Now Available" for IBM-PC [official SSI advertisement] along with "Epidemic!" & "The Warp Factor" Judging that the ad says the game is already available ("Best of all, these games are ripe for the picking at your local computer/game store today!") * Bit-Bat [h1] (1982)(Software Strategies Inc.) [Action].zip - hacked to remove date+distributor information * BurgerTime [a2][DC] (1982)(Mattel Electronics) [Action].zip - works ok until you attempt to redfine the keys. non a1/b1 version is the best! * Call to Arms [a1] (1982)(Sirius Software, Inc.) [Strategy].zip - different cta.bas. different file size. Didn't truly compare, so it may just be a different save type from different basic interpreters. Fixed call.doc too. (had stray high ascii characters in file.) * Dunjonquest- Temple of Apshai (1982)(Epyx, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - starting password is "Abdual" * Floppy Frenzy [DC][a1] (1982)(Windmill Software) [Action].zip - alternate crack * Fuzzy Worm [f1] (1982)(Boise Computer) [Action].zip - Patched out some silliness so it runs from any drive letter * LCM v2D [b1] (1982)(Anonymous) [Action, Simulation].zip - Missing required file TERRAIN.PIC - best known dump * Microsoft Decathlon [DC] (1982)(Microsoft Game Studios) [Sports].zip - CGA only. * Microsoft Flight Simulator [DC] (1982)(Microsoft) [Simulation] (variants) Most will display some corrupt data at first loading under DOSBox; this happens on real hardware too, it's a video card/emulation thing. All early booter copies of FS are in process of being converted to running under pure DOS, but they are a nightmare to work with (1k sectors, etc) This http://www.volny.cz/havlikjosef/fshistoryenglish.htm is probably the best source for all early FS disks. * Night Mission Pinball [DC][a1] (1982)(subLOGIC) [Simulation].zip - different conversion. technically done in 1997, or so the strings say. * Novatron [a1] (1982)(VeriSoft Works) [Action].zip - single byte differences at the same location on these alts. what's up with that? * Novatron [a2] (1982)(VeriSoft Works) [Action].zip * Pac-Gal [a1] (1982)(Al J. Jimenez) [Action].zip - later release, (sep 82 instead of may 82) doesn't ask for a speed variable at start. * Pac-Gal [h2] (1982)(Al J. Jimenez) [Action].zip - hacked credits, date * Paratrooper [DC][h1] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - Says (c) 1984 by "the duplicators" but the game was originally published in 1982 by Orion Software. * Paratrooper [DC][h1][o1] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - overdump of the same hack * Paratrooper [DC][tr Sp] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - portions converted to Spanish, but not the instructions or title screen. weird. * PC-MAN [a1] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - non [a1] can quit to DOS with ESC at any time. [a1] can't quit to DOS, but saves and loads highscores. * PC-MAN [a2] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - different file * PC-MAN [a3] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - different file * PC-MAN [h1] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - Date changed to 1993 on title screen. * PC-MAN [h2] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - Known as "Pac-Man (Fr) (1984)(F. Bataille) [Action].zip" but it is entirely a hack job of Orion Software's work. * PC-MAN [h3] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - Known as "Pac-Man (Fr) [a1] (1984)(F. Bataille) [Action].zip" * PC-MAN [h4] (1982)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - And now someone hacked the French hack and converted it back to english! Known as "Pac-Man [tr En] (1984)(F. Bataille) [Action].zip" * Racer Jammer (1982)(Anonymous) [Action, Racing - Driving].zip - requires mono, won't run with CGA or higher * Ramsak [h1] (1982)(Heigen Corporation) [Action].zip - Graffiti hacked by Italsoft. * Snipes [a2] (1982)(SuperSet Software Corp.) [Action].zip - I believe this is closer to the original release. * StarQuest- Star Warrior [f1] (1982)(Epyx, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - fixed memory allocation so that it doesn't run out of memory in most BASICs. * UFO (1982)(Tom Anderson) [Action].zip - Author's name isn't shown, but it's mentioned in PC-Green disk 004 from Dynacomp (CONTENTS.004) * Worm (1982)(Mark D. Miller) [Action].zip - requires mono, won't run with CGA or higher * X-Wing Fighter v4.0 [a1] (1982)(International PC Owners) [Action].zip - i think this is merely a different compile of the BAS source in the non [a1] * XO-Fighter [h1] (1982)(Heigen corporation) [Action].zip - Graffiti hacked by Italsoft. ==1983== * AdventureWriter [f1] (1983)(Gilsoft) [Adventure, Editor].zip - Patched boot.exe to not reference A: drive. copy protection patch (same offsets in EDT80.EXE) - crack:
Comparing files EDT40.EXE and EDT40.EX_ 0000370A: 90 E8 0000370B: 90 B6 0000370C: 90 00* Aftermath of the Asimovian Disaster (1983)(Tim Hartnell) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - Year/author source: these all appeared in Tim Hartnell's book "Creating Adventure Games on Your Computer" (1983). The book says he originally wrote them on the IBM PC. See- http://www.atariarchives.org/adventure/ * Air Trax [a1] (1983)(Presearch Incorporated) [Strategy, Simulation].zip - both are v1.0, but totally different compile. weird. * B-1 Nuclear Bomber (1983)(Avalon Hill) [Simulation].zip - Title screen says 1980, but since the PC didn't exist until 1981, that's a pretty good trick. We believe it came out in 1983, and here's some proof: The '83 edition of CGW indicating that Avalon Hill has just added three new titles to their IBM PC lineup; B-1 NUCLEAR BOMBER, VC and COMPUTER FOOTBALL STRATEGY. * Battlezone [DC][h1] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action, Simulation].zip - missing (c) and credits, different loader. * Battlezone [DC][h4] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action, Simulation].zip - this was formerly the non [h] version, but it appears that for whatever reason the copyright notice was lowercased. it's possible that it's a later official release, but for now it's a hack. * Beneath Apple Manor [DC][b1] (1983)(Quality Software) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - tagged as bad because final image of the golden apple doesn't show up in DOS conversion, but does when played off diskette. this DC was (poorly) done by hargle and needs to be re-done. * Bluebush Chess [tr Es] (1983)(Bluebush Software) [Strategy, Chess].zip - formerly known as Ajedrez (Es) (1988)(J.V. Enterprises S.A.) [Strategy, Chess].zip but was discovered it's actually a hack an translation, so all credits and release date removed to not encourage such behavior. * Bumble Games (1983)(IBM) [Educational].zip - cracked, playable! * Bumble Plot [f1] (1983)(IBM) [Strategy, Educational].zip - Game was in basic and used the "list blocker" protection as well as checking the key disk in each sub-game. All basic source code is now listable and all key disk checks have been removed. Runs off hard drive. * Buzzard Bait (1983)(Sirius) [Action].zip - will require true CGA * Centipede [a1] (1983)(R. J. Grafe) [Action].zip - additional stack space. yay. non [a1] includes docs. * Centipede [h1] (1983)(R. J. Grafe) [Action].zip - cracked by mr cool dude graffiti * Chateau Gaillard (1983)(Tim Hartnell) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - See note for Aftermath... at top of section * Citadel of Pershu, The (1983)(Tim Hartnell) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - See note for Aftermath... at top of section * Conquest [h1][DC] (1983)(Windmill Software) [Action].zip - very graffitied title screen * Creature Creator (1983)(DesignWare Inc.) [Educational].img.zip - fixed disk image. Creature Creator has a fairly fatal bug in the runtime code. At first I thought it was copy protection, but it turns out it is much more sinister. There's a bug that checks the return sector count from all INT 13h reads to be 0. Any nonzero value will result in a "disk error!" popup. This is exactly (and I mean EXACTLY) like the problem found in Crypto Cube. INT 13h was changed after the launch of the IBM PC to return the sector count successfully read instead of 0, so the game will only ever boot on an original BIOS IBM PC. Whoops! I've verified the patch works in dosbox, played a sample game and everything seemed fine. It is possible that writes to a disk may fail. -hargle * Crush, Crumble and Chomp! [a1] (1983)(Automated Simulations, Inc.) [Strategy].zip - non [a1] was taken off an original disk, this version appears to have been loaded into basic and resaved, as well as saved in ASCII format. * Crypto Cube (1983)(DesignWare Inc.) [Educational].img.zip - fixed disk image. See above notes for Creature Creator. * Dig Dug r7 [DC][a1] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - Single byte different in a sea of 00's. Likely corruption and should be removed. * Dig Dug r7 [DC][h1] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - copyright messages removed, other text changed. * Digger [DC][ax] (1983)(Windmill Software) [Action].zip - Tons of variations, some of them load alternate levels to start. [hx] varieties say "crazy digger" on the title screen. The game saves a ton of data internally, so there is effectively an endless number of these we could track! * Digger [DC][h1][tr Sp] (1983)(Windmill Software) [Action].zip - stolen credits, translated to Spanish * Epidemic! [a1] (1983)(Strategic Simulations, Inc.) [Strategy].zip - Appears to be an earlier version of the game- it lacks sound, as noted by examining the basic source code directly. Unfortunately it has been played a few times, so there are misc files (save games, etc) included but I don't dare clean them out for fear of removing something original. * Friendlyware PC Introductory Set v2.0 [a1] (1983)(FriendlySoft) [Action, Compilation].zip - has slightly different menu, includes hearts.exe * Galaxian [DC][h1] (Tandy) (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - Tested on PCjr, works, locks on a 286 w/VGA. Might just be a patch, or could be a different version altogether? Hacked with BBS phone#. Game runs with only CGA features on Tandy machines, so the (tandy) tag may be bogus. * Hangman v4.1 [a1][SW] (1983)(Norland Software) [Strategy, Puzzle].zip - different title screen text. Not hacked, just different. * In Search of the Most Amazing Thing [a1] (1983)(Spinnaker Software Corporation) [Adventure].zip - differences in .bas files. Not clearly understood what is different. * Infidel r22 (1983)(Infocom, Inc.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - interpreter M2 * Infidel r22 [a1] (1983)(Infocom, Inc.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - different file structure * Infidel r22 [a2] (1983)(Infocom, Inc.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - interpreter L * J-Bird [DC][a1] (1983)(Orion Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - slight tweak to .exe header. * Joust [DC][h1] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - cracked by mr cooldude graffiti. * Ken Uston's Professional Blackjack v1.20 [a1] (1983)(Intelligent Statements, Inc.) [Strategy, Cards].zip - Different build but same v1.20 the following changes to BJ.COM and M.COM: Load files from the current drive/directory instead of drive A. Clear out the "relative record" field of the File Control Blocks to make the game work on DOS versions 3.0 and above. Replace the read attempt of cylinder 39 with STC, NOP (copy protection). Replace the illegal file date 1980-00-00 of "D" with 1980-01-01, otherwise some programs will just display the current date * Lode Runner [a1] (1983)(Broderbund) [Action].zip - overdump compared to non a1, LR.dat is very different though * Lode Runner [h1] (1983)(Broderbund Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - new set of files, graffiti title screen * Lode Runner v3.0 [DC][f1] (1983)(Broderbund Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - speed fixed/patched * Lode Runner v3.0 [DC][a1] (1983)(Broderbund Software, Inc.) [Action].zip - differently patched version, likely not the same source as the [f1] *

[Action].zip - Software Pirates version that exits at the second game screen in Composite mode with a "SPI files missing 4 sector(s)" message. * Frogger II- Three Deep [DC][a1] (1984)(SEGA Enterprises Ltd.) [Action].zip - patch by Mok that uses 286 instructions and does not fully remove the keydisk check --- it still tries to access the floppy drive by directly writing to the floppy controller. * Frogger II- Three Deep [DC][a2] (1984)(SEGA Enterprises Ltd.) [Action].zip - newly discovered yet very early alternate DOS Conversion. * Games People Play (1984)(Anonymous) [Compilation].zip - Unsure who published this, although at least 2 titles seem to reference PC Magazine, so it may have been distributed by them. Otherwise has lots of original sources for many games with correct timestamps. * GATO [a4] (1984)(Spectrum HoloByte, Inc.) [Simulation].zip - gato.exe same as [a3], but gato1.exe different?!? * Gremlins [DC][h3] (1984)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - same as [h2] (cracked by mr cooldude in options screen) but different filesets. weird. * Hard Hat Mack [DC][h1][tr Sp] (1984)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action].zip - credits hacked to the Duplicators, some translated to Spanish * Hard Hat Mack [DC][h2] (1984)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action].zip - credits hacked to The Duplicators * Hard Hat Mack [DC][h2][a1] (1984)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action].zip - credits hacked to The Duplicators, this time a different exe * Hard Hat Mack [DC][h2][o1] (1984)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action].zip - credits hacked to The Duplicators and overdumped. Two bytes also different. * Hard Hat Mack [DC][h3] (1984)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action].zip - credits hacked to Italsoft * Hopper [a1] (1984)(Anonymous) [Action].zip - Bypasses speed/skill selection screen. * Hopper [a2] (1984)(Anonymous) [Action].zip - renamed as Ribit.exe, does not allow for Joystick * Hulk, The [f1] (1984)(Load'N'Go Software) [Adventure] - no idea what the patch is/does. Not sure if unpatched is original. * Icon- The Quest for the Ring (1984)(Macrocom) [Adventure, Role Playing (RPG)] - game requires true CGA to run properly. * In The Chips [DC] (1984)(Creative Software) [Strategy, Simulation].zip - likes a joystick, but can also be played with arrow keys+ins/del as buttons. * Janitor Joe [a2] (1984)(Kevin Bales) [Action].zip - typo fixed, from "veiw" to "view" that's it! * Janitor Joe [a4] (1984)(Kevin Bales) [Action].zip - Different build with some additional docs. Apparently there is a bug in games called "jumpjoe.exe" which is why some of these are "jumpjoe2.exe", released when the bug was fixed. Should probably re-work this set of games. * Jungle Hunt [DC][h1] (1984)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - graffitied executable and loader used to launch game * Kangaroo (1984)(Anonymous) [Action].zip - Has real(?) timestamp of 1984, but otherwise different .exe than the versions in 198x folder. * King's Quest [DC] (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].img.zip - newRisingSun's version which removed protection appendage from MAIN.EXE. works perfectly. * King's Quest [DC][a1] (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].img.zip - ripsaw8008's version, works perfectly. * King's Quest [DC][a2] (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].img.zip - Demonlord's stab #3, which now fixed the restart problem. We think this one works perfectly. * King's Quest [DC][a3] (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].img.zip - Prior to Jan 2017, this was the main version in TDC. Provenance unknown anymore so it got moved to the bottom of the list. * King's Quest [DC][a4] (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].img.zip - this is an earlier (may 1984) with BOOT v1.1. All other versions of KQ1 for the PC are BOOT v1.2 This version does not have "Chris Iden" in the opening credits. * King's Quest [DC][b1] (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].img.zip - Demonlord's 07/12/98 save/restore bug fix. Has magic bean text bug. * King's Quest [DC][b2] (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Adventure].img.zip - Demonlord's 2006 fix which fixed the magic bean text problem. * Klondyke Solitaire [a1] (1984)(Jeff Littlefield) [Strategy, Cards].zip - original, non modified/updated version. probably from 1983, but the timestamp is 1980 * Klondike Solitaire v1.2 [a1] (1984)(Mouse Systems Corp.) [Strategy, Cards].zip - taken off an original disk- files is a different compile than the non [a1] * Montezuma's Revenge [DC][b1] (1984)(BCI Software) [Action].zip - Adds an exit to DOS option, which is not original. This is technically a hack! Missing PCjr version. * Montezuma's Revenge [DC][b2][h1] (1984)(BCI Software) [Action].zip - credits hacked to Software Pirates, Inc. Missing PCjr version. * Montezuma's Revenge [DC][b3][h2] (1984)(BCI Software) [Action].zip - credits hacked to Italsoft. Missing PCjr version. * Montezuma's Revenge [DC][b4][h3][o1] (1984)(BCI Software) [Action].zip - (C) date changed to 1992, appears to have a complete 2nd program tacked onto the end of the file. Missing PCjr version. * Notable Phantom [b1] (1984)(DesignWare) [Educational] - missing half of the program. game.exe is 0 bytes. Compose.exe works. Labeled as [bad] until a better version surfaces. * MYCHESS [b1] (1984)(Software Toolworks, Inc., The) [Strategy, Chess].zip - Missing config program, which allows for display and computer type setup. Best dump known. * MYCHESS v1.2 [b1] (1984)(Software Toolworks, Inc., The) [Strategy, Chess].zip - Missing config program, which allows for display and computer type setup. Best dump known. * Pac-Man (Fr) [a1] (1984)(F. Bataille) [Action].zip - has two bytes NOPed out compared to other version. Not sure why. * Pac-Man [tr En] (1984)(F. Bataille) [Action].zip - modifications (translations only?) by Eugeen G., Balkhash 1994. Not sure how/where to place this one- it's a hacked copy with title screen changed, but is it just a hack or an [f1] and does it go in 1994 instead? * PC Pool Challenges (CGA only) [DC] (1984)(IBM) [Simulation] - Like the title says, don't try this one on anything other than a true CGA machine. The other one works on any video system. * PC Pool v0.10 [a5] (1984)(Dale Jurich) [Simulation, Sports].zip - yes, 5 versions discovered so far. This is the smallest filesize found yet- perhaps the others are overdumps? * President's Choice [DC] (1984)(Spinnaker Software Corporation) [Simulation, Strategy].img.zip - To get the game working in DOSBox you need to set machine=cga in the settings and run the PCFIX.COM program before booting with the command: BOOT PCHOICE1.IMG PCHOICE2.IMG * Pole Position [a1] (1984)(Namco) [Action, Simulation, Racing - Driving].zip - has unmodified paths to a:\ to load files. Technically then the non A1 version could be a [f1] and these two zips could be merged. * Quink (1984)(CBS Software) [Educational, Trivia] - crack:

Also interesting that it would normally be spelled "ribbit" * Rollo and the Brush Brothers [DC][a1] (1984)(Windmill Software) [Action] - someone hacked out all support for the savegame file? (or it was added in for a later version) * Rollo and the Brush Brothers [DC][h1] (1984)(Windmill Software) [Action] - Appended message "broken by Koyote Kid" * Rollo and the Brush Brothers [DC][h1][a1] (1984)(Windmill Software) [Action] - Appended message "broken by Koyote Kid", different (corrupt?) data inside too. * Rollo and the Brush Brothers [DC][a2] (1984)(Windmill Software) [Action] - Different than all other .exes, kinda overdumped too. * Shamus [DC][a1] (1984)(IBM) [Action, Adventure].zip - uses .ovl and loader method * Shamus [DC][h1] (1984)(IBM) [Action, Adventure].zip - hacked credits to st. nick * Sierra Championship Boxing (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Action, Sports] - Different title screen (no credits) and very DOS like, not ripped off booter. * Sierra Championship Boxing [DC][a1] (1984)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Sports].zip - likely just savegame differences, but hard to say. * Skiing [o1] (1984)(Rick Dean) [Action].zip - overdump, very incorrect timestamp * Skiing [o2] (1984)(Rick Dean) [Action].zip - overdump, timestamp is 1985 which is interesting but we think 1984 is the true 1st release date. * Smashout (1984)(Tim McClarren) [Action].zip - Requires mono, won't run with CGA or higher * Soko-Ban [ax] (1984)(Spectrum HoloByte, Inc.) [Strategy].zip - [a1],[A2],[a3] - different .exes, cracks, fixes. seems like non [a] is closest to original, has some INT 13h calls intact. Also seems that the game updates level data files directly, so nearly every copy we get is different. * Sopwith [h1] (1984)(BMB Compuscience) [Action] - AKA the red baron * Sopwith [h2] (1984)(BMB Compuscience) [Action].zip - one more red baron hack * Stargate [DC][h4] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - Public domain by atari. * Stargate [DC][h5] (1983)(Atarisoft) [Action].zip - modified instructions for left/right/stop. [Educational] [!].zip - not sure how this was verified as a known good dump. Seems that the HISTFILE has been modified. * Typing Tutor III [a1] (1984)(Simon & Schuster, Inc.) [Educational].zip - modified tt.com, but likely not due to self modifying code * Typing Tutor III [a2] (1984)(Simon & Schuster, Inc.) [Educational].zip - everything is different! * Typing Tutor III [a3] (1984)(Simon & Schuster, Inc.) [Educational].zip - see [a1] * Ultima III- Exodus (1984)(ORIGIN Systems, Inc.) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - First release off floppy, from a blue+white "flippy" diskette. * Xonix [h1] (1984)(Ilan Rav) [Action].zip - hacked to rename title to "Lokup"- removed credits from title screen. * Zaxxon [DC][b1] (1984)(SEGA Enterprises, Inc.) [Action].zip - No sound, thus labeled as bad. Missing PCjr version. * Zaxxon [DC][b2] (1984)(SEGA Enterprises, Inc.) [Action].zip - No sound, thus labeled as bad. Slightly different executable. Missing PCjr version. * Zaxxon [DC][b3][h1] (1984)(SEGA Enterprises, Inc.) [Action].zip - hacked to say "Public Domain By: Sega" Missing PCjr version. * Zaxxon [DC][b4][tr Fr] (1984)(SEGA Enterprises, Inc.) [Action].zip - hacked to say "Public Domain By: Sega" * Zaxxon (PCjr) [DC][b8][h1] (1984)(SEGA Enterprises, Inc.) [Action].zip - On a PCjr in DOSBox it at least gets to the 1/2 player option but won't go past it. Just use the non-[b] tagged version for all your Zaxxon needs. * Zyll [DC][b1] (1984)(IBM) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - A two paragraph header was prepended for no apparent reason, and aside from that the first word of every 4K (1000h) bytes is corrupt. Though the game does start up okay, it will mess up at various points during gameplay where the corrupt parts are used. better dumps exist in TDC. Here for tracking purposes only. * Zyll [DC][a1] (1984)(IBM) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - modified to implement quitting to DOS as well as a DOS-based method of saving/restoring game position instead of the original floppy-based method. ==1985== * A Mind Forever Voyaging r77 [a1] (1985)(Infocom, Inc.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - may actually be [o1], data at end of .dat file, but it may be legit. * Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension, The v3.87 (1985)(Adventure International) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction] - crack:

Yes, the game starts up windows 1.0, but come on, it's certainly more DOS than windows. ;) * Balance Of Power [a1] (1985)(Mindscape Inc).zip - different crack, missing all the windows drivers. [f1] version is from original disks, use it instead. * Castle Adventure [h2] (1985)(Kevin Bales) [Action, Adventure].zip - Hacked credits to "freeware games" * Cavequest v1.1 [SW][a1] (1985)(Lightwave Consultants) [Action, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - same executable, but additional quest files. registered maybe? appears to have been released later. * Caverns of Gink [a1] (1985)(Tony Ginko) [Action].zip - .COM version. * Chess v1.01 (De) [h1] (1985)(Psion) [Strategy, Chess].zip - hacked credits * Crimson Crown, The [a1] (1985)(Polarware - Penguin Software, Inc.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - uses subst for direct a: access, instead of using patched .exe like non [a1] * Dam Busters, The [a1] (1985)(Accolade, Inc.) [Action, Simulation, Strategy].zip (and [a2]) different cracks. * Disk Crash [b1][SW] (Gary Quiring)(1985) [Action] - Appears to be CGA only, but couldn't get anything more than a blank screen out of it on an 8088. Other machines show garbled graphics. Author is active on the net, maybe we can get the source/info. * Fantastic Four [h1] (1985)(Load'N'Go Software) [Adventure].zip - hacked credits, different crack * Fire Fighter [SW] (1985)(Eben Sprinsock) [Strategy].zip / Fire Fighter [SW][a1] (1985)(Eben Sprinsock) [Strategy].zip Some virus scanners will detect the [a1] version as Joke/Water. There is a really unusual thing going on here. fire.com is identical to fire.com[a1] except that fire.com is *longer* (overdumped) than [a1]. The [a1] version gets detected as having the "virus" but the non [a1] does not. How is it possible that "file+junk" is ok, yet "file" is a virus? Either way, this program is most certainly not "water/joke" http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_100757.htm * Hacker [a2] (1985)(Activision, Inc.) [Adventure, Strategy].zip - different .exe patch; must be uncracked, as it will not allow the user to log in like the other versions do. * Ghostbusters (PCjr, Tandy 1000) [h1][b1] (1985)(Activision, Inc.) [Action].img.zip - Disk image that will never be converted to DOS (hence no DC) but interesting to include in TDC because this version has been hacked to support CGA modes so it will run on a stock PC. Tagged as bad since it is no longer a PCjr/tandy version of the game- It was only ever released for jr/tandy. There is a fantastic dos conversion that actually works on PCjr/tandy now, thanks to NewRisingSun. * Golden Oldies Volume 1- Computer Software Classics [h1] (1985)(Electronic Arts, Inc., Software Toolworks, Inc., The) [Compilation].zip - hacked title screen to change credits from Software Toolworks to Computer Country. * James Bond 007- A View to a Kill [a1] (1985)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - different crack. * Jet v2.0 (1985)(SubLOGIC Corporation) [Simulation] - Mobygames lists the year of release as 1987, although the game clearly says 1985 on the title screen. * Killer Bees (1985)(Anonymous) [Action].zip - single byte difference between this and the [a1]. [a1] has a timestamp of 2005 so we like this copy better. * Maxgame [a1] (1985)(Max Acid) [Action].zip - different .exe file- not sure what actually changed though. * Pinball Construction Set [DC][b1] (1985)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action].zip - fails to work in DOSBox and real 8088/CGA machine. * Pure-Stat Baseball (1985)(Software Simulations, Inc.) [Sports, Simulation].zip - team disk has duplicate filenames, so the disks cannot be merged. You may be better off mounting the two .IMG files (located in a separate archive) as 2 drives. * Robotron- 2084 [DC][h1] (1985)(Atarisoft) [Action] hacked date and title to "illinois pirates league" nice. * Sea Speller [f1][DC] (1985)(Fisher-Price) [Educational].zip - [f1] because it relies on a behavior (probably specific to CGA) of the video status register that no emulator (PCE, PCEm, or DOSBox) supports, causing the game to hang. I modified it to specifically test the retrace bit instead of ALL bits of the register, so now the game will work on emulators as well as all kinds of real video cards. * Sierra Championship Boxing [DC] (1985)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Action, Sports] - Different than the release in 1984 (at least the title screen says 1985!) * Silly Master Blaster (Pinball Construction Set) [a2] (1985)(Anonymous) [Action].zip - compressed. Likely no different than other versions. * Solitare [a1] (1985)(Bill Franklin) [Strategy].zip - Compressed with LZ91. Likely no different than non a1 * Spacewar v1.50 [SW][o1] (1985)(Bill Seiler) [Action].zip - cga only version, overdump, missing docs, yuck * Space Commanders II [h1] (1985)(ajf) [Action].zip - Title hacked to be "<<

SFI.EXE has an embedded build date of April 5th 1985 as compared to January 12th 85, and I don't think that was hacked. * Star Trek- The Kobayashi Alternative [a1] (1985)(Simon & Schuster Interactive) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - different crack, possibly uncracked? will someday merge * Striker v1.2 [SW][a2] (1985)(Derek Williams) [Action].zip - couple single byte changes to the .exe * Strip Poker- A Sizzling Game of Chance [a1][b1] (1985)(Artworx Software Co, Inc.) [Strategy, Cards, Adult].zip - missing some data files, but main .exe is completely different from non [a1] version. No version # found, but certainly a different revision. * Strip Poker- A Sizzling Game of Chance [a2] (1985)(Artworx Software Co, Inc.) We already have an uncracked version, so this isn't important. * Wizard's Crown [a1] (1985)(Strategic Simulations, Inc.) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - different crack. * World's Greatest Baseball Game, The [DC][b1] (1985)(Epyx, Inc.) [Sports].zip - Works, but uses 386 opcodes, so the game will crash on anything less. A better copy exists in TDC now. ==1986== * Action Arcade v1.1 (1986)(Keypunch Software, Inc.) [Action, Compilation].zip - got renamed to Arcade Bonanza (1987)(Keypunch Software, Inc.) [Action, Compilation].zip because that's the way the box cover and disk image are produced. (see mobygames entry) While we believe this game is actually Action Arcade v1.1, we can't argue with this publisher re-publishing some previously published shovelware. * African Desert Campaign v1.5B [a1] (1986)(Matt Kaufman) [Strategy, War].zip - massively different .exe structure * America's Cup Yacht Racing Simulator [a1] (1986)(Geoff. Brayford & Associates Pty. Ltd.) [Simulation].zip - Fixed version of the [a1]- no typos! * America's Cup Yacht Racing Simulator [a2] (1986)(Geoff. Brayford & Associates Pty. Ltd.) [Arcade, Compilation].zip - has a later copy of keypunch.doc, no other changes. This shows how anal we are with TDC. * Arcticfox [h1] (1986)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action, Simulation] - says "CRACKED BY =NINJA=" on title screen. * Arcticfox [h2][b1] (1986)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action, Simulation].zip - different graffiti and incomplete! yay! * Arcticfox [h3][b1] (1986)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action, Simulation].zip - graffiti for donating to the american cancer society in place of credits. Also missing EGA version as above * Battle Ground [SW][a1] (1986)(MVP Software) [Strategy, Simulation].zip - massively different .exe structure * Beyond the Titanic [SW][a1] (1986)(Apogee Software Productions, Apogee Software, Ltd.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - re-release for the Apogee collection CD. Same game, but different notes included. Could be moved to the year that it was re-released I suppose? * Bop'N Wrestle [a3] (1986)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Sports].zip - different crack, fixed to A: drive * Computer Scrabble (1986)(Leisure Genius) [Strategy] - Micro Scrabble (French) - Straying heavily from mobygames naming and release date here. Box cover actually says 1989, title screen says 1986. * Deep Space- Operation Copernicus (1986)(Sir-tech Software, Inc.) [Action, Simulation] - Clearly says 1987 in title screen, but moby has release dates as 1986, and they're from the author himself. Just goes to show you how arbitrary these things are. * Donald Duck's Playground [DC][b1] (1986)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) [Educational].img.zip - Commonly available version, but doesn't work on a PCjr. Get the non [b1] instead. left here only to alert others there is a problem. * Haunted Mission Adventure [SW] (1986)(Agency Automation) [Adventure] - also listed in 1987. Not a dupe. Different versions, but no ver# that we can locate. * Karateka [ax] (1986)(Brøderbund Software, Inc.) [Action] - Different variations of the crack. I'd always heard it was impossible to beat the last guy if the crack was bad. Hopefully some of these will switch to [bx] in the future. * King's Quest III- To Heir is Human v1.01 [a1] (1986)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) Considerably smaller .exe file * Starglider (En)(De) [h1] (1986)(Rainbird Software) [Action, Simulation].zip - hacked title screen by ItalSoft * Subcommander (1986)(Unknown) [Simulation].zip - Looks suspiciously like GATO. May be a pre-release? * Super Boulder Dash [h1][DC] (1986)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Action, Compilation].zip - Uses a "cracked by" loader to start the games. * Tag Team Wrestling [DC] (1986)(Data East USA, Inc.) [Action].img.zip - This is kind of a reverse [DC]! It appears that TTW was originally released as an .EXE in 1984 and then re-released in Europe in 1986 as a booter. If you compare the .exe file against the .img file, you'll see the date was changed and credits removed from Quicksilver software, but it's technically not a hack since it was published this way. * Tetris (1986)(A. Pajitnov,V. Gerasimov) [Action, Strategy].zip - Almost the same as Academy Soft version, but without this copyright. Probably, slightly more early version. * Tetris [a1] (1986)(AcademySoft) [Action, Strategy].zip - Additional Academysoft (c) string at start of code, non [a1] might be a hack? * Tetris [a2] (1986)(AcademySoft) [Action, Strategy].zip - video mode message is different. * Tetris [h1] (1986)(AcademySoft) [Action, Strategy].zip - Hacked credits to ItalSoft * Uridium [b1] (1986)(Mindscape, Inc.) Could very well be deleted since it's just a stupid ad. * 10th Frame [h2] (1987)(Access Software, Inc.) [Sports].zip - hacked credits internally. * 3-D Helicopter Simulator [a1] (1987)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) This may have originated via Borland in their Turbo Pascal package. * Commando v1.01 [DC] (1987)(Data East USA, Inc.) Has slightly different title screen and gameplay graphics. * Commando v1.01 [DC][b1][h1] (1987)(Data East USA, Inc.) [Action].zip - Earlier version from above and modified to support hercules cards. Both versions have the same, very strange joystick routine: for the X/Y axes, the game writes and reads from port $200 instead of $201, which does not work under DOSBox. * Crazy Cars [a1] (1987)(Titus Interactive S.A.) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction].zip - various fixes by ripsaw to make this game work on 8088s. duh! * Don Quijote (Es)(1987)(Dinamic Software) [Adventure] - requires all input to be in upper case * Dungeon of Death [b1] (1987)(Softdisk Publishing) [Adventure].zip - DEATH.EXE, offset 81Eh-9FFh should be code (compiled BASIC) but it's not. The range is consistent with a bad sector on a floppy disk, but the content looks more like an errant write of some kind of data. In any case, the game crashes on the command list when reading the rules, maybe other places as well. * Eden Blues (Fr) [DC][a1] (1987)(ERE Informatique) [Action, Adventure].zip - 1 byte change: A vs C. Probably a default drive letter change, this is probably the original. * Elite [h1] (1987)(Firebird Software Ltd.) [Strategy].zip - different opening/credits screen. * First Over Germany (1987)(Strategic Simulations, Inc.) [Strategy, Simulation].zip - use the included .xls spreadsheet for figuring out your crew assignments. There is no way to crack this game without destroying gameplay. * Ford Simulator [a1] (1987)(Ford Motor Company) [Racing - Driving, Simulation].zip - may be an uncracked version. 2 byte code changes * Goody (Es) [DC][h1] (1987)(Opera Soft) [Action, Adventure].zip - Title changed to 'Mario' * Infiltrator [a1] (1987)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Adventure].zip - pops up with "cracked version!" upon loading. * Last Mission, The [tr En][a1][DC] (1987)(Opera Soft) [Action].zip - signifcantly suckier translation of the same game as the non a1. no title screen, only the controls screen is translated. included only for curiosity. * Last Mission, The (Es) (1987)(Opera Soft) [Action] - [a1] is likely a DC, although I don't know for sure. Non A1 is speed throttled. * Mach 3 [a1] (1987)(Loriciels) [Action] - no overlay files, different .exe * Mech Brigade (1987)(Strategic Simulations, Inc.) Appears to have some corrupt graphics on title screen. Mods have been made to this game (loader and datafile edit), but I am not sure if it is a crack or not. * Olisex (1987)(Andreas Görg) [Adult] - not a game. * PC Downs [a1] (1987)(Michael P. Ellerbe) [Simulation, Sports].zip - has source code, no credits. Possible that m. ellerbe didn't write it! * Pinball Wizard (1987)(Accolade, Inc.) [Strategy, Cards].zip - This is a rebundled release of "Poker (1986)(Immaculata Software) [Strategy, Cards].zip" * Quantoids of Nebulous IV [b1] (1987)(Kludgeware) [Action].zip - Requires a file called order.exe which is not in the archive- game runs fine if you simply copy quantoid.exe to order.exe. Best dump known. * Rad Warrior [a1] (1987)(Epyx, Inc.) [Action] - several crack differences * Reader Rabbit [b1] (1987)(Learning Company, The) [Educational].zip - a few files are truncated to 0 bytes. Best known dump * Roadwar Europa [a1] (1987)(Strategic Simulations, Inc.) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG), Strategy].zip - start.exe patched to display answers to the quiz, so it is likely not cracked at all, meaning it could be merged to make a complete .exe again. * Saboteur II (1987)(Keypunch Software, Inc.) [Action, Adventure].zip (and variants) - virus scanners will detect this as the durell trojan. Please see the trivia here: http://www.mobygames.com/game/dos/saboteur-ii for information, and live peacefully knowing that the trojan activity has been disabled. * Saboteur II [h1] (1987)(Keypunch Software, Inc.) [Action, Adventure].zip - Very modified opening title screen by cracker group. * Sapiens (Fr) [a1] (1987)(Loriciel SA) [Action, Aventure].zip - Single byte difference compared to non a1, pull the dosbox clock way down or you will get a divide error as the game tries to determine what speed to run at. I think the other copy of this game is tagged as [b1] due to this and probably shouldn't be. * Scrabble [f1] (1987)(Vic Rice) [Strategy].zip - fix was done in 1991 and says v1.1 in the updated doc file, but it's really just a raw hex-edit patch * Search and Destroy! May be useful for restoration back to original state, but otherwise no different than non [a1] * Space Quest II- Chapter II - Vohaul's Revenge v2.0F [a1] (1988)(Sierra On-Line, Inc.) I'd chalk it up to a hack, but the main .exe is actually different and the text isn't readily hackable in either. * Starflight (1987)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - yes, this is different than the one in 1986. This one supports EGA, 1986 one is CGA at best. * Star Trek- First Contact (1987)(Simon & Schuster Interactive) [Adventure] - Moby says 1988, box and disk scan do too. * Sub Battle Simulator [a1] (1987)(Epyx, Inc.) [Simulation].zip - every file is different! * Super Hang-On [a1] (1987)(Data East USA, Inc.) [Racing - Driving] - uses loader with "cracked by" to start game. * Superstar Ice Hockey [a1] (1987)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Sports] - different build of executable. * Superstar Indoor Sports [a1] (1987)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Sports] - Not rightly sure what's different-every .exe has a different checksum than the other version. Play.com has been hacked in both files. * Tales of the Unknown, Volume I- The Bard's Tale [a1] (1987)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)] - different file sets, but same bard.exe? Weird. * Test Drive [a1] (1987)(Accolade, Inc.) [Racing - Driving, Simulation].zip - different crack to EGA version, but also seems to include a herc mode. Missing CGA though. * Test Drive [h1] (1987)(Accolade, Inc.) [Racing - Driving, Simulation].zip - CGA only, different .exe file * Tetris [a1] (1987)(Spectrum Holobyte, Inc.) [Action].zip - taken off original disks, does not use CPC.COM. thexder.com (cracked file) taken from a2. a2 copy has a few files tagged as "MsDos" which means a2 is an overdump too. * Tomahawk (En)(De)(Fr) [a1] (1987)(Datasoft, Inc.) [Simulation].zip - has a different title, language selection screen * Transylvania (1987)(Polarware - Penguin Software, Inc.) [Adventure] - moby says 1986, no dates verifiable anywhere, except dates in archive are mostly 1987. * Trekboer v1.3 (1987)(Mark Data Products) [Adventure, Interactive Fiction] - This one says 1984 in the title screen, but the source code that was later released with the game itself says v1.3 was released in 1987 in the comments. If earlier versions materialize, then obviously those release dates will change. * Trojan (1987)(Capcom Co., Ltd.) [Action] - Requires joystick. No apparent way around it. * Ultima I- The First Age of Darkness [a1] (1987)(ORIGIN Systems, Inc.) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - 2nd release off floppy, dated 1987-12-29. * Ultima III- Exodus (1987)(ORIGIN Systems, Inc.) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)][!].zip - 4th release on floppy. WOF saves data all over the files as the game is played, so every version we find will report differently. Both lack the title screen, since on the original disk, it is displayed while the main executable is loading. [b2] is broken in that during the introduction, only dots are displayed most of the time instead of actual text, which is why [b1] has been hacked to skip the introduction completely. * Arkanoid [b3][h1] (1988)(Taito Corporation) [Action].zip - Replaces the "Copyright 1986,87,88, Taito America Corp. All rights reserved" string with hideous cracker graffiti. It fails to properly relocate, loading instead to a fixed memory address (bad!), fails to properly copy command line arguments so that you always have to go by those pesky menus at the beginning and cannot use cheats. * Arkanoid [b4][h2] (1988)(Taito Corporation) [Action].zip - A further defacement of [h1], replaces "Yet Another PTL Club Production" with "Yet Another FUCK YOU Production". No idea if the name is technically correct but this is similar to the Ford Simulator software packages during that time frame. * Jeopardy! Second Edition [a1] (1988)(ShareData, Inc.) Might be corruption, since we also have a known good dump in the archive now too. * Jordan vs. Bird- One-on-One [h1] (1988)(Electronic Arts, Inc.) The original install program merely calls out to an installer program and script, which was easily substituted for a batch file. If we can find an original copy, we will be able to restore the game completely. * Jr. Pac-Man [h1][b1] (1988)(Thunder Mountain) [Action] - works in DOS 6.22. Hacked at exit with cracked by note. Seems to be missing the EGA version. (JRPACEGA.EXE) * Jump Jet [h1] (1988)(Anco Software Ltd.) [Simulation].zip - uses a recycled loader to start the game; use JUMPJET.BAT to start. [Adventure][!].zip - 3.5" version. non [a1] is the 5.25" version. Uncracked, but the codes are available. * Life & Death [a2] (1988)(Software Toolworks, Inc., The) [Simulation].zip - different (uncracked?) version of non [a1] * Livingstone Supongo (Es) [a2] (1988)(Opera Soft) [Action, Adventure].zip - may be uncracked. A1 version has some garbage at the end of the file compared to non [ax] version. * Livingstone Supongo (Es) [a3] (1988)(Opera Soft) [Action, Adventure].zip - Has (the correct) opening title screen which seems to be missing from all other versions. * Mad Mix (Es) [h1] (1988)(U.S. Gold Ltd.) [Action].zip - hacked by Italsoft 1992 * Mad Mix (Es) [h2] (1988)(U.S. Gold Ltd.) [Action].zip - hacked to change release date to 1989 by "chip soft" instead of "topo soft" * Mad Show (Es) [a1] (1988)(Silmarils) [Simulation].zip - different file set, slightly different graphics (at least in CGA), supports VGA too. * Matterhorn Screamer! (1988)(Hi-Tech Expressions, Inc.) [Action].zip - works fine in DOS 6.22 on a 486, bails at game start in DOSBox 0.72 * Memory Hog Hunter (1988)(Intel) [Action].zip - Too weird not to be included. Not sure if intel was the actual publisher, but it is certainly a pro-intel piece of propagan..err..gaming history. * Might and Magic II- Gates to Another World [a1](1988)(New World Computing, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - different crack on 1menu1.ovl. * Mind-Roll [h1][b1] (1988)(Epyx, Inc.) [Action, Strategy].zip - missing ega+tandy files at a minimum * Mindfighter [b1] (1988)(Activision, Inc.) [Adventure].zip - uncracked I believe. May have been taken straight off floppies-gotta verify. * Neurobics (Installer) [b1] (1988)(Ocean Isle Software) [Strategy, Educational].zip - all .exe files are tagged with "MsDos" as the last few bytes (I think this is some antivirus tool). Game still runs fine, but .exe files will never be CRCed as original. Run install first to pick video mode. * Nobunaga's Ambition [a1][f1] (1988)(KOEI Co., Ltd.) [Simulation, Strategy].zip - Different version, modified directory structure in main.exe to keep all the files in the root folder. * One-Sale Manager (Ru) (19xx)(Anonymous) [Simulation].zip - not really sure what this is. Edit the "members.txt" to include up to 13 people, then hit the space bar to select them for the race. Hit enter to start. Seems like random chances who will win. Not really a game, but entertaining, sorta. Date is unknown. Files are dated 1984, but supports EGA and uses an EGA/VGA driver written in 1988. wtf? Not even sure if it's russian. The members.txt is full of russian titles, but the rest of the game is in English... wtf indeed! * Othello v4.2 [h1] (1988)(Earl Waud) [Strategy].zip - Hacked exit screen removal of a request for cash for the source code. May have been done by the author as it does not seem malicious. * Paperboy [a1] (1988)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Action].zip - Possibly a pre release. Some interesting details: There is no Tandy graphics support. All other versions support Tandy graphics. There is no sound. All other versions have PC speaker sound. The CGA graphics are identical. But there is another "CGA on EGA" mode that supposedly makes use of additional video memory to remove flicker. No other version has that mode. The EGA graphics look completely different: they run in 640x350 mode, are not speed-limited, and look rather nice (by 1988 standards). The EGA palette is also modified to use custom colors. All other versions use 320x200 mode, use the default 16 color palette, but are speed-limited. (Use machine=ega to run this in DOSBox, otherwise there will be graphical errors.) I think the graphical patterns are actually the same, but the higher resolution really helps here. Looking at MobyGames, it seems that the graphics are based on the Amstrad CPC version, and this version looks much closer to it than the others. There is a READ.ME file that explains technical details. No other version I have seen has that file. * Paperboy [a2] (1988)(Mindscape, Inc.) [Action].zip - matches closest to the [h1] version, but still different .exe files. * PC-Jigsaw [SW][a1] (1988)(Bill Dedes) [Educational].zip - modified exe header/footer. Otherwise identical * Phantasie III- The Wrath of Nikademus (1988)(Strategic Simulations, Inc.) [Adventure, Role-Playing (RPG)] [!].zip - verified original disk against rip from 8088state release. * Play 'n Learn v2.10 [SW][a1] (1989)(HomeCraft Computer Products) [Educational].zip - smaller exe files, same version displayed on screen. Also crashes freeing memory in dosbox like the non [a1]. * Pool of Radiance (1988)(Strategic Simulations, Inc.) [Role-Playing (RPG)].zip - Run setup.exe to change video/sound configuration - crack:

Has its entry point wrapped by some rather ineffective EXEPACK-like RLE-compression thing that may or may not have originally been on the original disk. * Arkanoid 2- Revenge of Doh [a1] (1989)(Taito Corporation) [Action].zip - Dated 1989-08-02: with support for the Creative Music System/Game Blaster * Arkanoid 2- Revenge of Doh [b1] (1989)(Taito Corporation) [Action].zip - a pitiful crack that removes the ability to configure the sound card using menus; the cheesy .NFO file asks the user to use command line arguments for that. Too bad then that the option /? produces a garbled output. Filthy, vile and disgusting "scene" release. Away with this garbage. * Arkanoid 2- Revenge of Doh [b2] (1989)(Taito Corporation) [Action].zip - Same as [b1], but with REVOFDOH.DAT compressed with PKLITE. More discussion on this here: http://vogons.zetafleet.com/viewtopic.php?t=15285 vogons message board.
